View Full Version : Getting picked in P.E

Just watched an episode of king of queens and they had like a line up and the captains pick.
And it reminded me... did you do it at school?
When playing football..
We always had 4 captains having to pick 11 people each 1 at a time, and we stood in a line of 40 of us..
I was always in the top 10 picked..
Where were you picked?
Niall
30-11-2010, 12:18 PM
We never had this. Our teacher just picks random captains and gives each team a number. Then he tells gives us a number like 1,2,3,4 and we have to go to that team.
Sorry if that don't really make sense lol :p
Was usually first, second or third picked but never past 5th or 6th
Used to laugh at last picks :joker: it was always fattys or geeks

I was fat, but never last picked (thank god for having friends), but never first picked either :bawling:

middle picks were always good, zero expectations (so you can only impress) and at least you have friends
I was one of the last ones picked always, being the unsociable, scrawny kid I was in my youth. Of course most of us who stayed in 24/7 to devour books and computer games later learned when we did hit the streets that these things embellished our wit and imagination far past a lot of the first place picks who are now working in their dad's auto garage, turning us into well rounded, popular, creative people by the time we hit college.
I still can't kick a ball.

Only in primary school.
And I was always one of the first picked cos I was our schools goalie.

Depends what you want out of life I guess
I was always picked near the start but for different reasons. In year 7 & 8 I used to be really sporty and do a lot of running and played a lot of football so was chosen quite high up. Then I got more and more lazy, stopped caring about P.E and (voluntarily might I add :p) joined the group with all the sh*t players where I was chosen first or second because I was the best of a bad bunch

I was always picked middle-last. Sometimes I would be the "joke" pick. =/
I think the whole picking for PE teams should be banned. It's traumatizing. :(

Primary school/start of secondary school I was a pretty good footballer so I always got picked quite quickly.
Then we did Rugby. I was a skinny little s**t and was probably under 5 foot tall at the time so I just got demolished and I hated it. I ended up just not going to P.E, and by the end of school, I used to just skive the afternoons that I had P.E to go down the snooker hall with a couple of mates.

Yeah, it wasn't like I was gonna get a qualification in it, it was just compulsory that the school made you do at least an hour a week. Pointless really, could have been studying something that would have been useful instead.
Stacey.
30-11-2010, 03:58 PM
Probably first half to middle.
I'm alright at P.E just hate it, and don't try, but I was picked because of friends really

Yeah I mean two lessons in Yr 11 I had! That was so pointless. Those two hours could have been put to much better use. Oh well it was fun bunking. :D

I just sneak out the little back door in our hall and either sleep outside in the shade if it was coming up to Summer, or go and get a coffee or something if the School Gate is open and then make it back in time for the end of the PE Class.

I think its always been done by numbers at my school, well for bigger teams like football. But then for basketball or badminton etc you just kinda got to form your own team/choose partner.
_Seth
30-11-2010, 04:13 PM
Choosing partners was always so horribly awkward. :(

Yeah, only the PE teachers use the paper register. The rest do it on a laptop.

I don't think I took any games seriously. Rugby I just refused point blank - there's no way I was picking up my teeth after being shoved in mud for half an hour.
And of course, there was the best game ever - tennis. Or, as every teenager in the country played, orgasm-tennis. Exaggerated grunts and screams
It always made me laugh how unprofessional PE teachers were compared to other teachers. One time when we were playing football and some guy tackled the teacher cleanly, but he fell over which pissed him off so he held the kid down, grabbed him by the throat and told him he better watch out from now on. Nothing was done about it

Ugh, don't remind me!
Football and Rugby was rubbish!
I was better at the more skilled games like tennis; badminton; rounders (LOL rounders)
Jords
30-11-2010, 04:51 PM
Mostly middle, although I was always one of the first picked for rounders.
When you are picked 1 of the last it makes ya feel sh!t though and I really dont think it should be done. Its more of a social scale if anything.
I wanted to be the guy who wasn't laughing at 'fattys or geeks'.
The same can be applied to academic people laughing at the not so bright people but obviously that isn't really an issue ;)
Core PE really annoyed me because noone ever took it seriously (especially the unfit people who would then moan about being unfit or fat) so I just ended up skiving that. GCSE PE was a lot better because you're with more like minded and competitive people

I remember some of the lads were moaning about having to do rounders because its a girls sport, so we got to do softball which is identical to rounders only the bat is bigger than the players and the ball weighed a ton :joker: It dislocated 2 of my fingers once :(

I'm not at all an academic person so I wouldn't really have much carte blanche to laugh at people who suck the same as me in tests now would I?
I'm talking about thick, ignorant ****s. Of which there is quite a few in the world. You cant base everything on academics and trite institutionalized measurements of intelligence. Some people are just plain nasty, plain thick, ultra ignorant and show no willingness to improve themselves or their surroundings.
I usually find they are the type of people who laugh at the 'fattys and geeks'. In turn they deserve to be derised. So yeah. I quite enjoy laughing at these close minded, violent g-tards these days.
None of that's directed at you because your obviously none of these things but your comment did hit a nerve I have to say. Consindering I spent a lot of time getting laughed at when I was younger. I'm sure I'm not the only one around here.

No matter what, people are always going to have their own strengths and weaknesses and where people have their strengths, they're going to laugh at people with their weaknesses. People who are good at sports laughing at people who are crap at them is no different to someone who is good at maths laughing at someone who can't do it at all.

Very active but detested football because all the numptys took it very serious, and shouted and screamed whenever they lost!

I think your generalization are a bit off. I think you get a loss less nerds ganging up to poke fun at Dangerous Mickey who can't add his fractions than you would Mickey and his chums doing the same for sports related mishaps. I have certainly never been privy to much 'you can't divide? you fag' type stuff in my lifetime.
There is a difference between a group of mates mucking about laughing amongst themselves about the one who is crap at soccer and the more sinister ideas I'm talking about, where the 'fattys' and 'geeks' and 'goths' and whatnot are routinely picked on by the type of people who usually don't exactly grow up to be cancer cures.
I just generally found when I was growing up that people who target others for being fat or geeky or whatnot were ... well ... loosers? Most of the ones I know are as ignorant today as they were way back when.
I'm not laughing at them today because they can't count change, I'm laughing at them because of the general lack of humanity they once and in most cases still posess.

About the fattys there's this lassie at my school she's got something wrong with her and she's fat thats ashame, and she's got like no pals. It's sad. Geeks hah, there's not much and there's no goths at our school,Getting picked on is hellish though, cos sometimes the teachers dont do anything like at school there's these people i reported them too this teacher and he never done anything accept tell them not too,:/. If people had any tack or poppers or whatever it was combined with whatever alcohol we managed to smuggle in that day :p (usually resulting in me being ill)
This is of course, toward the end of our school years...after we realised the teachers really couldnt care less if we didnt turn up to classes :laugh2:

year 7 all starts all formal and scary where you've got to stand up until the teacher tells you to sit down and you need to ask to take off your blazer etc
by the time it got round to year 11 it was more like a drop in centre

Yup pretty much.
Our tutor actually used to give us tabs when we had none, swear at us when he got pissed off, and say to us 'if you are not going to go to your lessons, at least come into registration so i can mark you as present'...and stuff like that

My P.E lessons are good. I had a mix of diferent sports. I'm quite good at Running, Rounders,Tennis etc...
But terrible at Rugby and Football, we rarely have line-up picks, but if that's the case, I'm always picked near to last. But it was ok, because people know I'm bad. I'd just stand there and they won't pass to me...the way I like it.
It's better now, because we can choose what we want to do. Like seven of us do Hockey instead of Football :p
