Who would you say is overrated? [That is, to say, given an unrealistic and undeserved amount of respect and praise by critics, fans or awards]
I'm aware this'll cause some arguments but CARE I NOT.
I'll start. The Ramones. Everything sounds the same. /generalisation

The likes of Justin Bieber and JLS are not overrated. Who overrates them? They appeal to their own market which mostly consists of overgrown single women and young children.
An artist has to have been heaped with critical praise and fanwankerry surely before they should count in a thread like this?
I'll go ahead and hop on the Coldplay bandwagon straight away. Other ones that come to mind are Jay-Z, hey hurr hey it's Metallicahhh and err ... David Gray. Another boring shittyarse, IMO.
Having difficulty thinking of many right now. Simonsays's obvious baiting aside anyone who nominates either The Beatles or Elvis does not understand popular music. Opinions need not apply. Thank you.

They revolutionized popular music to a degree that you are as of yet incapable of understanding. Regardless of your opinion on them they are not in any way overrated.
People need to realize that 'name some overrated bands!' and 'name some bands you don't like that much!' are two different things.
The Beatles and Elvis get heaped with praise and adulation. Every bit of it due.

i quite like alot of punk actually..dead kennedys, exploited, black flag, circle jerks
but theres just something about sex pistols that i just dont really like
although in fairness i do love public image ltd gladly they arent punk
Sex Pistols I agree with as a band. Although they did help kickstart the punk movement they had one damn album and none of them were particularly good musicians. John Lydon has a great raspy voice and personality but then Public Image was his true band. The guy even said it himself.
Besides Punk was a step backwards that left very little room for sonic experimentation. The post punk movement was far superior. I do enjoy pop punk for what it is though. I'd never take it seriously or go and see any of the bands but it's produced some good tunes [See : Any Tony Hawk game].

Tricky. I'm not a huge fan of him but his use of high pitched sampling and nicking of drum loops has slowed down with his recent efforts. His a dab hand in the studio. New album kicks all sorts of ass.

Without a decent voice? It was more than decent. Without a fantastic voice then maybe, yeah. But it's not as if she was choking on ****ing toothpaste.
Anyway where is this myth that you need a pitch perfect voice coming from? plenty of musicians have revolutionized the world. They didn't all have the tonal quality of god's orgasm moan for christ sake.
