Rory
17-04-2006, 10:41 PM
^^ Meh, they don't really even play any UK program here. We get BBC America, but thats basically it. We get some same stuff from Endemol (Big Brother, Deal or No Deal) I see you guys take some ABC shows. (Lost, Desperate Housewives. Expect Grey's Anatomy next..that's a hit)

And no, I don't have that 'slow-thinker' voice. ^_^ I may have a bit of a southern accent, since I say "y'all".

Sorry to the Scots of the forum! - it doesn't affect your personalities! Just personal preference! :blush2:

In terms of American accents, I don't have the exposure to determine which accents are which, but I compare the softer accents rather than the brash, brittle accents, if you understand!

Rory
17-04-2006, 11:34 PM
I think that everyone sounds like an american while singing. :D

Pipergun
17-04-2006, 11:37 PM
Yeah, a lot do - except for opera singers, who sound Italian!

I think a lot of us over here think that we have more regional variants of accents in Britain.

I can think of Mancunian, Scouse, Yorkshire, Brummie, Cockney, Cornish, Welsh, Aberdonian, Glaswegian and so on.

Can't think of as many American variations, but it might be that we aren't as used to them here so we don't notice the subtle differences.

Irish by far BUT i can't rate them from1-4 because i love the geordie accent and the scouse of course  but i can't bare the cockney accent, and there both English so.... :spin2:

Pipergun
17-04-2006, 11:55 PM
Ah, makes more sense now!

Good good, that makes it the best for all of us, you see if you were a Chav.....:rolleyes:

I agree completely! .... I think! :spin:

I don't really think I have an accent, just normal English accent. The only accent in the Lincs/Peterborough area seems to be a habit of dropping "t"s, which I can't stand, and so make sure I don't do it!

BB-Rocks
18-04-2006, 12:02 AM

Even down in the South-west there are more than one accents, Cornish, Devon, Plymothian, Bristolian, Somerset - the Somerset accent is the most "ooo aarrrr" i think
Dorset probably have there own one too but I wouldnt be able to recognise it unlike the others though.

I love a nice Scouse accent. I much prefer people to have accents than those with the non-specific voices where you dont know where they are from. Its part of our identity.

I love our Brummie accent.

I suppose you could say I am a geordie - I dont have a very broad accent though

I love the Scouse accent :xyxwave:

Lance

I love the Scouse accent too. And the way Wlesh people speak is fab <3

I've got a big farmery Irish accent. Think Colin Farrel but less Dublinish and more farmerish.

Nicola

I don't have a particular accent - a lot of people would assume I have a bit of a Geordie accent cos I'm from the North East but a few of my mates from the Midlands and down South haven't picked up on that as much as I thought they would do.

GabrielleisLove

Glaswegian, but not so harsh. I get asked if I'm really from Glasgow a lot.

One of my mates says that the Americans have ruined the English language.

I know what he means. They do pronounce some words rather strangely, such as aluminium.
