View Full Version : If you'd take it, would you give it?

No preaching, but if you'd take a heart/lung/kidney(etc) to survive would you give it? How many are on the donor register? How many would take a beating heart from a dying person to survive but not offer it upon their own death?

I'm not on the register but I'd give anything after I die. I want to be cremated anyway.

I wouldn't accept any part of another human to save my life. I'd rather die, but I wouldn't mind giving part of my body away after I'm dead.

It's not like I'm going to know it's being done.

I'd take one from someone else but not give it back.

When I die I want all of me to remain in me when I'm cremated including my Balls, Heart, Lungs, Kidneys etc

Everything that was there from the beginning.

I think most next of kin don't like the thought of their loved ones being 'chopped up' for body parts :/

And if any future kids you have need a kidney? (don't worry - you don't have to die to donate one of those)

Oh I'd give one to them for sure, especially because I don't have to die to give a Kidney.

Infact I'd probably give a Kidney to anyone really if their lives were at stake and I could still live, I never knew Kidney's were needed to live until now.

Patrick do you not find that taking one off someone, but not willing to offer it back as a bit selfish?

Fine if you don't want to offer your body once you're dead, but you'd happily take an organ off someone else?

Don't you think that seeing as you'd take one off a deceased person, you could offer that favour in return to someone else who potentially needs this vital organ?

Im not going to lie but I would take one but not give one back. Just because of the fact I hate thinking about what happens with your body after you die its worse then actually dieing for me and I know id hate knowing im going to have my insides cut out. :(

EDIT: If it was to save a close family member whilst I was still alive id do it.

Thomas you can't tell him what to do. Some people just aren't comfortable doing it and theres nothing wrong with that.

I will become a donor when I am 18, I think you can become one at any age but I know my mum is too lazy to help me get registered, as I'd need her permission... Hopefully I do not die before then.
My body is totally useless to me if I'm dead, and I'm honestly not bothered as to whether I am buried or cremated soooo...

I think its down to personal choice,
Although many people against receiving an organ have changed their minds when told that if they don't have a transplant they will die in a matter of weeks.

I personally would have a transplant and also am happy for my organs to be used for others after my death.

I will not know what is happening and if I can help save a life by donation of organs to someone dying, then thinking of the joy that would bring to their families and friends who don't want to lose them is the only factor in it for me.

I can understand people being against it though.

However once we die, we are either going to decompose naturally if buried or be totally burned in cremation, for me, if before that process,I could save any life or even lives by Surgeons taking my organs then my life will have been well spent doing that.

This is a somewhat personal subject for me...

Yeah, I would be more than happy to receive an organ if needed and even more happy to donate mineshould I die.

As many people as possible should be registered for organ donation. If you aren't, and want to be you can do it here;

A personal one for me too Happyland, for a Family member who a transplant came just too late for when I was 14. That made my mind up for me on this issue.

I have just registered on line just in case.
I am a donor card carrier for quite years.

Long time ago, I was mugged in front of my front door. A boy snatched my bag and run away. But the night the boy came back, brought my donor card back!!! (He left the card in my bag, damaged. I noticed somebody was there because I heard a noise the night)

It would be grate comfort to me if I knew if I could help somebody that way.

I'm signing up for organ donation.
What use are mine when I'm gone? might as well give them to people who need it.

I feel a bit weird about the whole thing tbh; both recieving an organ and donating one. It'd just be a bit strange to have someone elses inside of me and also to have the organs that have been a part of me my whole life just taken out and shoved in someone elses body.

I'd like to become a donor, I may well do it, but I would need to be sure first and the same with recieving one.

Vicky.

I'm already on the register.

Though I dont know if I would actually take an organ (given the choice)

And I would give anything to a member of my family while still alive too.

I also give blood and that...mostly because my dad had a horrible motorbike accident when I was very young and needed like 20 pints of blood, and I used to sit and think about if the hospital had had no blood at the time :/

I suppose when I'm dead they can have what they like. Not while I'm alive though. Never. Only for very close family. And blood...ugh. Freaks me out.

People can do what they like with me after I die. Well okay, I draw the line at necrophilia or getting exhumed.

But anyway, 300 years ago, it was common practice to bury people en masse in unmarked graves. I don't see the harm in that either.

I feel a bit weird about it tbh, both giving and receiving.

I wouldn't take an organ from someone voluntarily, especially if I could survive without it. And in the same way, I wouldn't want to donate an organ, whether I be alive or dead.

However, if I did take an organ, for whatever reason, I'd definitely put myself on the donor register straight away. I also want to start giving blood too.

I do think that if people on the register should have priority over people not on the register when it comes to organ transplants too.

I don't want any of my organs donated because if I come back to life in my coffin I want all organs to be intact. Also I wwould want all of my body with me in the after life.

Thats more reason to let them take parts of you out, so that you are SURE you are dead before being burried

I'm often the giver, I don't take that much.

Theres my sexual innuendo post for the day.

In all seriousness, I don't care what happens to me when I die. I don't need my body anymore, I think I accidentally ticked the organ donation box anyway when I signed up for my provisional. That plus my friends brother died waiting for a kidney, v sad when you see it first hand.
