“The vote is now open, and will close in tomorrow night’s result show. It’s now all in your hands. Your votes and your votes alone can get your act safely through to the final.”

Cher was obviously quite a distance behind Mary in the public vote before Sunday's live show, hence the change.

LOL Vicky

it's not technically saying that the judges won't have the final say. It's disengenuous but maybe not legally binding

Deliberate deception...who could believe this from the x factor?!

but he pretty much says that every week I'm sure. He just means that you can save your fave from the bottom two.

Again, its misleading but there's room for interpretation legally.

I'm not saying that you're wrong because that does make sense but if he meant it to mean that we were voting to save them from a sing-off he should have said so

well thats why I say its disengenuous. But legally safe, which is the crucial part.

There's a loop-hole like Zippy pointed out, and that's how they've covered their backs here. Very cleverly worded.

As others have said, its so carefully worded that its open to a number of interpretations. Simon covered his ass to get what he wanted.

Its dodgy, BUT if it goes to OFCOM we won't have a leg to stand on because Dermot didn't explicitly say there won't be a sing off

What others have said is correct. That statement could have been meant in so many different ways that they could have done absolutely anything last night. Nevertheless I'm glad that Cher stayed... At least we have a bit of variety in the final now.

Correct!

I see that Cowell is now saying that when there have been 5 left before, it has always gone to a sing-off. Has it? Wasn't Ruth Lorenzo in fifth place and booted out without a sing-off? :nono:
