Before it becomes a Matt Cardle song and all the teeny boppers think he wrote it..we need to remember where it came from :bored:
One of my favourite songs ever, and I'll hate to hear it on the radio everyday song by a different person if he wins.

I think the teens are in the OD camp, and I'm sure people will know the songs origin, IF Matt does a good job of it,fair play to him and what is wrong with having a good song made more popular?surely that's a good thing, after listening to it I have a feeling Matt will do it justice and more.
What?? :amazed:
Matt is going to cover this?

They've had a #2 and a #3 album, 7 top #20 singles and 8 more top #40. They've also won a Kerrang! award, an NME award and a BBC Teen Radio award and have 16 million listens on last.fm - putting them higher than Marvin Gaye, Phil Collins and Iggy Pop amongst others.
But I imagine all that's irrelevant when you're...erm...watching the X Factor for all of your musical knowledge.

It is relevant when you claim that "they can't be that special" and that "lots of people have never heard of him/them" because their huge success is contradictory to your claim seeing how widely they are commended and celebrated. You are the one making presumptions stating that they cant be that special just because you have never heard of them

He would have had to get permission from the artist to do this ,he mentions the band on his audio track so I presume they are hoping he has success with it too as he is a fan,so i cannot see why people are having a problem with it,he has done a good job of it and has brought the band into the spotlight,so surely all is good,he would also have to had permission to change the name.

Not willing, just knowing. The people who win X Factor generally aren't successful unless they've got something special or different about them, Matt hasn't. It's always the least offensive contestant that wins and that pretty much always means not the most interesting. He's gonna struggle to keep up intrigue and no one will care by the time his performance rolls around next year.
Male winners never do well or last long and I doubt Matt's gonna buck that trend.
Also why should I care about him? All he's done is sing covers of covers of ballads and has shown little spark. He's ten a penny. At least with the others they've shown aptitude and specialities, all I've seen from Matt is that he can sing well and we all know how well that went for Joe McElderry.

I'm sorry Jack, but you know jack about the music industry (ROFL WORDPLAY). If all it took was a good voice, thousands of more people would be a rampaging success right now, A good voice matters very little and Matt's shown little else in the competition.

Just because someone writes a song does not make it untouchable, surely people write songs for people to hear them.I don't get all this hype over what is right or wrong etc. regarding music. I happen to like or dislike what I hear according to my own personal taste - not on what is 'in' today. I have enjoyed watching and listening to Matt - Rebecca I could listen to but not watch - so I will buy any album they make and base further opinion on them from there.
I had never heard of Biffy before, love the song as done by Matt - it's a real grower, but having played Biffys once found it did nothing for me - my opinion, my taste and I haven't been back to play it again.
I cannot understand all these 'sheep' that are doing their utmost to keep Matt off having a No.1 for Xmas by backing (imo) utter cr*p to take it's place. The reasons why that are going around are unbelievably stupid and mostly incorrect anyway. Buying stuff you probably don't like or want especially just to upset someone else is so, so sad - but very, very British!

Is that the original song you're calling utter crap or one of the other anti X factor songs that people are backing to beat Matt to #1?

The novelty songs ,but having said that the ones buying the original are obviously doing it out of spite as they had the chance last year and as someone so rightly said it only got to number 20,so instead of dissing Matt they should actually be thanking him,There are two or three people trying to beat him now,how bleedin childish.people need to get over it and move on.has there ever been another XFactor winner who has had to contend with such nasty comments, you'de think he'de robbed their grannies!

Joe got a lot worse last year, plus Matt doesn't seem that bothered about it, not taking it personally at all and has said himself he didn't particularly want to do the song so I don't see what the fuss is about really with people jumping to defend his right to get #1 (and I like him, just not the cover).

"Instead of dissing Matt they should be thanking him"
Yeah because prior to this they were so unknown with their #2 and #3 albums (certified gold + platinum respectively) and 15 top 40 singles.
And I haven't actually seen them dissing Matt. I've heard them refer to it as "an X Factor cover" which is only really a criticism if you subscribe to the idea that X Factor covers are bad things...and since you don't, and you love his cover...you don't.

It's just personal preference as far as I'm concerned. I'm not really a fan of covers unless they're done very well and/or add something different (in a good way) to the original. The name change and the over production (which always happens on X Factor winning singles) is a mockery of the original which is raw and full of emotion, but that's just my opinion. And yes Matt does love the original song, but he said he wouldn't have chosen to do a cover, nor sing half the songs he did during the competition.
For the record I'm not rushing out to buy the Biffy version, I already have it on their latest album. Personally I think a Xmas song should be #1 for Xmas.

The 'some people who have never heard of them' are the same people who have probably never heard of Kate Bush, Bob Dylan and Joe Strummer.
You don't seem to be getting that point. If you keep on watching just the X Factor for your musical input you're never going to be aware of the huge alternative artists of the moment.
The fans rushing out and buying this now object to a watered down cover of something they love. Don't forget - most of the fans will have bought the album rather than the single, hence its modest placing last year. But of course there's a "grrr! i hate the x factor!!" contingent amongst these new customers - and if anything you shouldn't take that personally: it's more of an attack on Simon Cowell, the X Factor monopoly, rather than Matt himself.

No need to try and be patronising just because I havent heard of your beloved Biffy does not mean I do not enjoy or follow different styles of music,I watch the Xfactor because we enjoy it as a family,as i suppose you must watch it! I have very varied musical tastes some of which no doubt you have never heard of does that make you any the less a music buff than I?Of course it doesn't.And if this is a protest against Simon Cowell and not Matt why on earth do people still watch it,it's all seems so childish to me and it's getting boring now.

I don't even know where to begin.
a) They aren't my beloved Biffy. You're trying to paint me as the only Biffy Clyro fan in the world when in fact, there're thousands, maybe millions. I don't even like them that much. Stop calling me patronising and then saying "your beloved Biffy", it makes you look a hypocrite.
b) I watch it because I have nothing else to do. And because most people I know do, so I like to keep updated. You say you watch it because you enjoy it as a family - well you must then realise the difference between watching something awful for entertainment (such as Big Brother) and watching something for new musical talent (...which is NOT the X Factor).
c) Well I'm dying to hear about your varied musical tastes that allow for Matt Cardle to dominate like he does.
d) Most of the people buying the Biffy song probably DON'T still watch it.
You're just overreacting because you have some absurd emotional investment in Matt - when I've just pointed out most of these protests aren't even against him personally. What does it even matter to you? He'll inevitably have more success than he deserves anyway. There are thousands of talented young musicians out there who're trying to make a name for themselves the honest way, without having their opinions and motives exploited by Cowell for media attention. So yeah, I'm sorry if some people are objecting to a horribly commercial, shallow, talent-destroying system. And I'm sorry if I'm doing it in a patronising tone, but believe me, it's a lot more pleasant than the resentful tone I can quite easily flip to.

I called them your beloved Biffy as you are the one that seems to be dissing me because I had never heard of them,2nd I cannot believe someone watches a program as 'they have nothing else to do' but finds time to trash it,but still ,and do remember we all have different tastes one mans meat is another mans poison,I am not overreacting I am answering your posts and don't worry I would not bore you with my musical tastes as it's only yours that count obviously.

It doesn't take a fan of a band to point out ignorance - and besides, you're not just saying you haven't heard of them, you claimed they should "be thankful to Matt" for getting exposure. I just pointed out they already have enough :conf2:
2nd...well you should try being a student. Trust me, I'd love there to be good TV on on a Saturday but it's like...erm...everything I just said (Cowell, commercialism, bad music, y'know...the usual) goes against me
And...nice retort at the end. Real mature. Like I said...hypocrite :) now I believe I have a victory parade to get to.

The 'thanking Matt' bit was meant tongue and cheek, you really shouldn't take everything so seriously, and hasn't your TV got more than one channel? and as for hypocrite, how so?i am open to all kids of music i just didn't know this Biffy lad:joker:

I think that a campaign for a Christmas song should be held instead of campaigning for the same song. I don't think this campaign will get enough support anyway, not enough people know about it and I don't think that enough people are willing to spend money on the campaign this year. Unlike 'The Climb' last year, the song itself is pretty good, regardless of who is singing it, so I highly doubt that it will succeed in getting the Christmas number one.

Because some people are ignorant when it comes to things outside the top 40. They're a well known band there's no denying that. The reason it only got to 20 last time is because Biffy Clyro aren't based around singles it's all about the album sales. Singles only matter to the top 40 type of artists.
