Just back from her jungle adventure, I'm A Celebrity's Sheryl Gascoigne explains why she is backing a campaign to fight domestic abuse.
As ambassador for the domestic violence charity Refuge and as a woman who survived a violent relationship, she’s outraged by the news that 102 women were killed by abusive partners between 2008 and 2009, an increase of 42 per cent.
Just two days after returning from the jungle Sheryl handed in a petition to Downing Street demanding that local authorities preserve specialist domestic violence services to stop the mounting death toll in the face of further government cuts. “I feel devastated by the growing number of deaths,” says the mother of three. “How can this be happening? When is it going to change? Domestic violence is still such a taboo subject and it’s awful. We can’t keep letting women suffer like this.”
Good for Sheryl .....
