I was just wondering has anyone on here dialled 999 before, either it for the police, or an ambulance.

I always wondered what they say when they answer the phone?

Yes. I can't remember it though, was a couple of years ago.

Nope. :P

Kerry
28-12-2010, 12:32 AM
Yep. They ask which service you require then put you through to said service. Then they ask what the emergency is

Yeah when I was really young. I called it like not knowing what it was, and then I left the phone just there. My mum found out a minute later or something and asked who it was, and they weren't happy.. then she explained the situation to them :L

Is it true that you can access 999 via internet?

Kerry
28-12-2010, 12:39 AM
I once keyed in the emergency number on my mobile. Think it's a series of 1's (some universal number I think). It was in my pocket and the keylock was off. I ended up with some emergency person yelling out of my pocket asking if I needed help and to press 9 if I did. I hung up and was mortified

I must have done that. I was horrified. I was just walking through the park and a voice yelled out of my pocket! I thought I'd finally lost the plot!

Kerry

They know exactly how to deal with things. For example if you asked for the fire brigade the police would come along anyway. If you need an ambulance then the responder would assess what/whoever else you need.

For example I've been assaulted and rang an ambulance. Because it was an assault the police arrived also.

Yes rang it before when I was in the car with my parents and a gang of boys were driving badly next to us, they had their window down and were shouting abuse because they accused my mum of driving into them when in reality they were driving all over the place. So I rang the police but they didn't treat it seriously because I didn't have the registration number of the car, I don't think they would have regardless though but to me the police should have got involved, they could have killed people with their driving.

You seriously rang the police for that? some OAP could be having a heart attack in the snow somewhere meanwhile you are complaining about a bad driver
