View Full Version : Android/Blackberry/iPhone
Any advice on which I should go for.. I can see good points about them all, but really can't make up my mind. My brother in law has the HTC Desire which looks pretty snazzy, but is the iPhone/Blackberry better? I really don't know what to go for! :conf:

iPhone if you can afford it, blackberry if you can't.
Just stay away from androids.

Aw.. why? I have to say, I was leaning more towards the Androids?!

My mate has one and its always crashing.

Hmm.. A decent camera is important to me. Is the iPhone camera not a bit crappy?

Blackberry's are the best by far.
iPhones are ugly + Androids always crash. There is nothing wrong with Blackberry's once you get used to using the keyboard.

I see all my friends sitting on Facebook etc using their mobiles.. DO they pay to go online or do some contracts include free minutes for that kind of thing?

Yeah you can get it on your contract for it to be free I think. I haven't gotta pay for my internet on mine anyway

I have the iphone 4 and the camera is really good and yes it does have flash.
It all depends on what you prefer and what you want it for, personally i would never have a blackberry because i think they look ugly and i like the apps and touch screen of the iphone.
Only ever seen an android tablet and that was forever refusing to do what we wanted it to.
Obviously im bias to iphone as i have one but its totally your decision

I pod touch (for apps + music connection to the car - so i dont waste battery on my phone)
+
HTC
I get the hd7 soong and it looks amazing, amazing camera etc and my old htc magic is quality.
I phones are good, but expensive, and if you use for music you can run the battery down quickly.
Blackberries are So so ugly, dont even try to defend them.. they just are, these are facts.
So for me id go for a I phone if you got the money Or a new HTC Android phone..
Thanks everybody so far.. I don't really need it for music as I have a natty 80gb ipod.. The main things for me is a decent camera, easy to text, ability to access emails/fb/etc.
I think I'll go and have alook at contract options :)

Easiest to text id imagine would be blackberry, but i wouldnt buy an ugly phone because its easier to text lol.
Mum got a Wildfire HTC for christmas and its great for checking the weather, news, e mails etc..
All the new ones are especially the new ones.
Iphones are also good for that sort of thing due to having more apps..
Patrick.. I see you reading this thread! Yay..
Stay? please? We need you to liven things up :D

Bloody hell.. It wasn't THAT long ago that I answered questions like these on modern technology for a living! Things move so fast though!

Go for a Black Berry.
Android, I have never heard of so can't comment on that but really if you're going to go for a good smart phone narrow it down to iPhone or BlackBerry not something like Android and that's due to the fact iPhones and especially BlackBerry's are one of the biggest gadgets out right now in terms of what's being talked about and bought.
iPhone's look good but I mean they're just the iPod Touch with the feature to ring someone.
Just like the iPad is a heavier version of the iPod Touch, Apple seem to do that alot with their products.
I have a Black Berry, You'd find it hard to get use to at first but I've had mine almost a week now and it's brilliant.
The camera is pretty decent on them and the apps are fine and using the Internet is fantastic on it too.
And it also has Black Berry Messenger which is like MSN on your phone.
I'd say go with the Black Berry really, due to the fact it's more unique than an iPhone.
If you wanted to get an iPhone for it's features, seriously go for an iPod Touch they're amazing and cheaper.
Right how long roughly is 500mb per month of web browsing??
And if I were to have narrowed it down to say the HTC Desire and the HTC WIldfire, which one is better, and why?
iPhone
Blackberry
Android if you want hassle.

I've got a Blackberry, had mine for about a year and a half now.
I bought mine because of the physical qwerty keyboard, physical being the main reason (I didn't like touchscreen phones at the time, they were crap and unresponsive).
It's been great, never had any problems with it, decent apps, the internet browser isn't the best but I downloaded Opera Mini which is amazing. BBM is good if you know people with BlackBerries, probably a bit useless if you don't. The camera isn't that good imo, I'll post a picture I took with mine:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs107.snc3/15462_1305231752381_1278131401_909376_258359_n.jpg
I think it's a bit grainy and the video recording is even worse. I don't use the camera too much but you said it's important to you so that's something to consider.
I'd definitely recommend a BB, but I'd probably say get an iPhone if you've got the money and haven't got an iPod Touch. I had an iPod Touch when I got my phone so couldn't see the point of paying an extra £180 + £35 a month for something I'd already got with an added phone feature.
Wouldn't rule out an Android though, I'd take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S before you make up your mind. I think I'm gonna get either that or the BB Torch when I can get an upgrade.

Ok no-one listened to my previous post.
I'll forgive you cause most people don't know much about Palm but the thing is many consumer sites would agree with me in saying that they make excellent devices. The Palm Pre was the first serious contender to the iPhone but thanks to a delayed launch and poor advertising it didn't receive the fanfare it deserved.
That was 2 years ago. Now the Pre 2 has been released, the hardware is better than ever. All current Palm phones run Palm's webOS operating system. It makes running multiple apps simple and intuitive. Each app you open is housed in a 'card'. You can have many different 'cards' running at the same time. If you want to close an app you can just flick the card up and off the screen. This vid is a little long but this guy is testing the multitasking capabilities of a Pre 2 and the previous Palm Pre Plus:
fM8AP5IHVLo
See that? If you really wanted to you could run over 50 apps at the same time on a Palm Pre 2. Now tell me that ain't impressive..
The camera on it is 5 megapixels which is decent. Obviously its not gonna replace your digital camera but it will do the job for the odd picture.
The Pre 2 also has a hardware keyboard. Oh and it integrates all of you social networking services seamlessly. The Pre 2 also has some good games on it's app store - the Palm App Catalog. Many popular iPhone games are available on Palm phones, something you wouldn't find on a Android device or a Blackberry. And belieeeeve me I'm ditching an Android phone for a Pre 2. The amount of grief my phone has given me has driven me mad. Its buggy, slow and it crashes a lot.
This might be a slight downside but you can only buy the Palm Pre 2 direct from Palm for £399. Thats what I did.

Besides, Palm are rumoured to be getting ready to release some new phones in the next few weeks so if you don't like that one, there should be another one coming out soon. :)

But yeah Palm have loads of 3D games. They have Need For Speed, Sims 3. You'd be surprised at how many great apps they have. Its just everyone overlooks them. :(

Oh there are loads lol!
Shopsavvy - you can scan barcodes to see where the cheapest price for a product is.
Google goggles - similar to Shopsavvy but it scans a picture of something then searches the internet for it.
Unblock Me Free - a game thats really addictive.
Labyrinth - another good app. The free version has about 10 levels but the full version has loads more.
I can't think of any others atm.
