View Full Version : If Big Brother 12 UK Fails, Would It Destroy Big Brother Forever?

Think about it like this,
Everyone actually pretty much has said this at some point that Big Brother will come back in 5 or 10 years or perhaps more to a new generation and it will become that show we all loved and adored again.
Whether it's Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV or whatever!
So we're all pretty certain about that, I mean it's such a big format and is the daddy of Reality TV and I think in 5 or 10 years or so when a channel needs an idea they'll say 'Hey, Let's bring Big Brother back think about it, it could be huge again after a rest!'
But in a matter of days or weeks, we're going to find out if Big Brother 12 UK is coming to hit our screens any time soon on Channel 5.
Alot of you think this will ruin Big Brother forever.
I kind of agree with you on that because I mean it will either be amazing for us fans to watch because we've got our precious Big Brother back but then we could also be sitting there every night thinking things like:
'Ugh I hate Holly hosting this, Bring back Davina!'
'Paige Richardson is rubbish at doing the voice over!'
'I swear had this been in 2005 the tasks would of been better'
'Our old houses wouldn't of looked like that!'
Etc Etc
Constantly comparing every night, and it could also flop as we all know Channel 5 isn't the biggest channel around.
But here's my question:
If it did flop and there's a massive chance it will, Do you all think this could be the end of Big Brother for good?
I can't decide if I'm excited or anxious for Channel 5's big reveal this month because I mean I don't know if this will be death of Big Brother forever.
If it flopped and fell epicly on it's arse, do you really think ITV or even Channel 4 would go near the show in 10 years time if they looked back and saw what a rubbish job Channel 5 did?
If you look at Big Brother UK's ending, I mean we got:
*The All Star Series we always wanted!
*A Whole Night Devoted to Big Brother on Channel 4
*Billboards with R.EYE.P around the Country
*A House Band blasting the theme tune
*The best firework display Channel 4 has ever seen on Big Brother
*Echoes to end the series
You know it was a real night to remember and we spent all summer saying goodbye to the show in style, If BB12 fails on Channel 5 they could literally end it after that series and just make an announcement in 3 months time saying 'Oh yeah we don't want to make another series x'
You get me?
So what do you think?
If Big Brother 12 fails, would this destroy any chance the show would ever have of getting to Big Brother 13?

i wanted an all series best bits lasting like 10 minitues. :(
Nikki Grahame to take 5 minitues of it
and anyway idc i just want big brother back as i love it. And for the fans that say they love it but they never want it back, well obviously you dont love big brother. I want Big Brother back as i enjoy watching it, so thats why. You can't enjoy watching it and not want it back??

i think so as no other channel would touch a show thats been canceled twice, other channels very rarely buy shows that get canceled once let alone twice.:joker:
ITV wouldnt touch it with a bargepole. If it's not on Channel 5 again either this year or the one after, then I dont think it will ever be back tbh

Not 'forever', BB will definitely be back in the future.

I don't see it coming back if the demand isn't there for it. I think they need to lower the number of days. 3+ months is too much. After a while, you get fed up with it and stop watching it unless your truly hardcore. Unless they have great and interesting house mates which they don't really get because they go for weirdos and idiots.

I think it would tbh which is why id be worried if Channel 5 took over it.
Id be happy to see it back but if they **** it up then it'll be gone forever. Best thing for it would be back on Channel 4 but cant see that happening. :/

:joker: Uh, yes you can. Just like i'm a fan of Benidorm but don't want it to come back for a fourth series. Because I'm not a fan? No. Because I'd rather have a couple quality series to look back on than series after series of crappy, repetitive rubbish (like My Family). Everything has a shelf life and Big Brother UK has expired. Maybe bring it back in 5-10 years but not now, not while it's fresh in everyones mind.
It's much more likely to target a wider audience in the distant future, new generation, whereas it only ended 5/6 months ago so its bad reputation it got in the later years is gonna hang around for a while yet.

i don't understand. BBUK11 already failed, and the show is cancelled. So... what are we talking about?

Big Brother 11 was one of the worst series (not the worst; BB4,BB8). However I have loved all of the Big Brothers (even BB4 at times). I can't really see how Big Brother 12 can fail, but If it does, and it never returns ever then that's channel 5's fault not the fan's for wanting it back.

At this point I seriously doubt it will EVER be brought back, unless it's in a form similar to the US version or a format radically different. They really put multiple nails on the coffin of Big Brother with the finale, with this big extravagent goodbye. After all that, it would just be weird a year later to be like 'nvm lol we're back'. I do hope i'm wrong though.
But in terms of other Big Brothers, I DEFINITELY see Big Brother Australia coming back without a doubt. Possibly for Summer 2011 or Summer 2012.

We don't need the USA Format, it would completely and utterly fail here, which is a shame.
I love the gameplaying and tatic side to Big Brother, which was never shown in our version apart from Big Brother 5.
I honestly, don't think other broadcasters like Channel 5 would care about the massive goodbye though in a few years.
I can see what you mean though for sure, right now alot of channels wouldn't due to that and I don't think some of the producers would be happy either.
But I mean if a Channel [like 5] really needed something to put them on the map or if they were struggling, I think BB would be something they'd turn to, eventually.
I reckon it'll come back, with a few tweaks.
Not sure when though.
And was the AUS Version good? I watched some bits of a few seasons and then BB11 came and I forgot about it.
Which series would you say is the best? or the best to start off with?
It looks pretty similar to Big Brother UK aswell, basically the same really only a different accent.
I'd love if it came back.
I'd be VERY, VERY, VERY Jealous though of the bastards.

I don't think it would flop, there may well be a fair less viewers with Channel 5 but I think it would increase generally the Channel 5 viewing figures,
Choosing a good combination of house mates and with the public voting still will ensure a good set of viewing figures, whether its on this year or next year.
People like watching other people, especially in a set up like Big Brother.I don't think Channel 5 would be risking anything by doing it sooner rather than later, it could only help their viewing figures and they could make changes that bring in the public more than on other series that would further enhance income and the publics interest.
Its too good an idea to let go now, leaving it off screens for say 5 years would do the damage more than putting it on in this year or next year so I hope it does come back or at least something on the lines of it with a stronger format.

There is only two things to say.
1... CH5 won't bring back BB .100% no chance
2...BB will never come back to the UK. A closed chapter in UK TV history.
If I am wrong I will eat my hat but you will have to wait until I get one made of marzipan.......

When the Deal is Signed
it goes onto the Guardian Media.
Delays are normal
as money is Tight , however,
its better to be in work
with a channel than closing it All down
and sacking even more for good.

Tbh I think you could say BB has already been destroyed forever after the CBB5 race row fiasco. The viewing figures have never recovered and unless C5 are willing to pour money and new creative ideas in the series then it will always fail.
We've seen how half assed C4 have been in the past few years, lets hope that if C5 are taking BB under its wing then it will be decent.
But to answer your question, I don't think that BB could ever be destroyed forever. Plenty of TV shows are revived every now and again. Its possible that if BB doesn't work on a new channel than another channel could pick it up and make a huge success out of it. Thats my belief anyway.

No. Big Brother is an institution. The format itself does not have to dramatically change.
Simple changes need to be,
- More booze and parties!
- ALWAYS a vote to SAVE.
- Fairer audition process. NO ONE from bloody agencies or whatever! Unless someone from an agency has auditioned from their own back. Like starting from stage 1 like EVERYONE ELSE.
- Also I think the public should vote 1 or 2 people in out of a shortlist of 10? Would be funny if those 1 or 2 ended up being the most entertaining!
- It should be shorter than 13 weeks. I would love a year long series or whatever but with most of the public.. most think 13 weeks is a drag. It should be a 10 week series I think.

Quite possibly.
I know that if I was a broadcaster rather than a fan and presented with the idea of bringing it back and upon reasearching found out it had already been bought back and failed, I wouldn't give it a second thought.
