Not that it's a great feat this time of year. There's been no serious challengers for him yet and he'll crumple as soon as there's competition. It's the promotion that's got him where he is rather then on any true merit.

and he's got the second best-selling single of 2010  whoooop!!
Meanwhile, Eminem and Rihanna had the year's with their duet Love The Way You Lie.

That song sold 854,000 copies, narrowly beating X Factor winner Matt Cardle's debut single When We Collide, with sales of 815,000.

Bruno Mars was in third place with Just The Way You Are (Amazing), which sold 766,000 copies.

In this week's charts, Cardle stayed top of the singles rundown while Take That were pushed into second place on the album chart by Rihanna's Loud.

Anyone could have done it, It's about promotion rather then his own talent.

So why didn't Biffy Clyro do it then?

A multitude of reasons, they didn't launch the song in front of 15 million people for a start or have to rely on said show for success. They're also focused on albums rather then singles so it didn't get much promotion, finally they released in a normal week with actual competition and despite not having a typical mainstream Singles chart sound they still managed Top 20.

Matt launched from the X Factor into a vacant few weeks with few new releases and only a few fragmented Anti X factor Campaigns. There's a world of difference my dear. Matt would have been steamrolled without the promotion or release slot.

I'm not I'm just stating that Matt's success is down to circumstance rather then his cover being good musically.

It was on the map before, it's just that the ignorant masses weren't as aware of it.

Matt's pretty much doomed, A mediocre Script-esque album awaits him and he'll be gone once he fails to reach the top spot.

Will Young did very well though and lasted a long time in terms of X-Factor type winners. I don't think he's gone forever either

The only way he'd work is if they focused on album sales but the X Factor winner has to be able to move singles. I can't see Matt doing that against real competition.

well, we'll have to wait and see I suppose, depends on how much of a say he gets on it too though, as Simon basically owns him now
