TiBB Design a forum skin competition - ends 10/1/11

After the success of the Xmas competition we're going to hold another design a forum theme competition.

To enter send us a screen shot of how you think the forum should look, and if you win the design will be made into a forum style that can be selected.

You can change all the colours on the main theme and the main graphics on the page (logo etc.). The actual layout should be similar to a current style. You can either keep the current buttons or, if you wish, change some of them, but only if you can provide me with the individual graphics.

To enter, please Private Message your design to any mod/admin or you can post it in this thread. Please try to get all entries to us no later than 10th January 2011.

There is a possibility that we will hold a design competition every month or maybe second month.

I agree, I certainly don't want to be looking at Chers face everytime I log on, in fact as much as I like Jordans design, I wouldn't use it if Cher was on it

Hey why not just take the rotating pictures idea and put it to better use? Just use pictures of members if they give permission, and various icons/pictures that have become synonymous with TiBB. We could all design them. Then combine that with Shaun's idea to have a very self indulgent, in-joke of a theme. The forum doesn't have any live, specialty subject matter anymore anyway. It's simply TiBB - with us - and it's waiting to die.

Yeah, like the whole place is a walk in museum of TiBB lore. I assume only certain quality pictures could be used, and even then I doubt it would be a huge problem given filters would probably be applied to them on image editing software.

Although given the other possibilities coming to mind now with regard to more general pictures/words or phrases the members idea seems a bit naff.

We could even just have quotes. Plenty of websites have a different quote each time you refresh it. TiBB has about seventeen million classic quotes.

Or you could just make up daft slogans relating to the forum like 'Where you can be anything you want to be. Right Raph?'.

I've given this alot of time and effort and this is probably my first proper 'art' project on the computer come to think of it.

So go easy, who am I kidding [awaits insults from Stu] but anyway...

If this is too big, I'm not bloody resizing it so right click and click 'Open Image In Tab' to view it in a better size.

What I was going with here was obviously a paint theme with bright colours using black in the background.

I remember people saying on the old forum how they loved the Black and Gold theme and I think it was David who said we should have a black theme, and for those of you that like colour I threw some of that in aswell.

I used the font I used for Song Star in this design, Because alot of you asked me where I got that font.

And yeah basically at the top I put together some things that this forum talk about like X Factor and Soaps, and of course Big Brother which is why that's slightly bigger than the other two images.

I added a Big Brother camera in the corner to go with the 'BB Is Watching You!' slogan.


And lastly,
Stu said it would be a good idea to have some TiBB jokes and what not threw in.

I was going to put some quotes in but I wasn't sure where.

But I did add 2 images as little references to TiBB itself.
We've got the :amazed: smiley, that SimonSays used in almost every post, and that is now used alot by other members.

And then we've got the Llama from Summer 2009!




I would love it if you lot could say what's good or what's not about this and what to improve on or take away to make better!

The only think i would say is the 'big brother is watching yu' thing makes too much of a gap, so either have it in the background, or make it smaller. But yeah, its nice :D

Okay, my honest constructive criticizm : It has the exact same problem most other themes by non professional/regular graphic designers have. It's like you had a million great ideas and just shat them all out on a page without any care in the world for how ... well ... tidy and concise the whole thing looks. The theme just doesn't tie together. Ideas are great and all but they need to ... come out the other end looking good. That ... thing ... just gives me acid flashbacks. I would probably be the exact same if I done a theme. I would come out with something equally as horrendous. But then I admit that I'm no genius at graphics and leave it to the genius folk.

Also ... tidy up your PM inbox.

What I was going with here was obviously a paint theme with bright colours using black in the background.

I remember people saying on the old forum how they loved the Black and Gold theme and I think it was David who said we should have a black theme, and for those of you that like colour I threw some of that in aswell.

I used the font I used for Song Star in this design, Because alot of you asked me where I got that font.

And yeah basically at the top I put together some things that this forum talk about like X Factor and Soaps, and of course Big Brother which is why that's slightly bigger than the other two images.

I added a Big Brother camera in the corner to go with the 'BB Is Watching You!' slogan.


And lastly,
Stu said it would be a good idea to have some TiBB jokes and what not threw in.

I was going to put some quotes in but I wasn't sure where.

But I did add 2 images as little references to TiBB itself.
We've got the :amazed: smiley, that SimonSays used in almost every post, and that is now used alot by other members.

And then we've got the Llama from Summer 2009!




I would love it if you lot could say what's good or what's not about this and what to improve on or take away to make better!

It's just a space background- not neccisarily meaning I was going for Doctor Who- I was thinking more along the lines of the TiBB logo shooting down to Earth. Not everything to do with space means Doctor Who. But anyhow from you that's credit so thanks :)

I think we should all consult Matt or The Harbinger about making a 'TiBB Museum' Theme as Stu mentioned the other night in this thread.

See what we could do is, together put together some legendary quotes from TiBBers and posts some little images that are related to TiBB in a way,
For Example:

Toadette from Mario
The Llama
A Few Over-Used Smilies


We could also come up with some words that alot of people have used such as:
'Mess, Fail, lulz'

It's basically what Stu said only I think if we can make a thread and post all the ideas in there and then ask Matt or TheHarbinger to create the theme using the ideas, it could be fantastic.

It's what I said yeah except you used the worst possible examples highlighting the worst of TiBB. I want genuine displays of TiBB's funnier moments. 'Fail' and 'Lulz' in addition to being prevelant on just about every other forum on the planet are also monumentally unfunny.

I'm having second thoughts on the pictures idea too. There are only so many. Pictures of Llamas and Ife's chrome are not my idea of humour. Maybe text only would work better. I was just stealing Shaun's idea really with all the funny sections and descriptions, only with randomized quotes at the top under the logo [really the only worthwhile idea I had] like 'The best Big Brother site since 1956' or 'Home of the Lady GaGa Appreciation Thread'.

See this is why it would be so much better if we could get one of those refreshable themes.

I mean we could literally have a simple enough theme with a cool logo and some good colours, no big pictures or anything like that.

And then just a different quote everytime we refresh that way, we don't have quotes scattered all over the place.

I like your idea Stu of having a quote under the logo, See if we could do that and then when the page is refreshed the quote under the logo changes to something else.

Would be quite good if this was possible and if we got alot of quotes together to do this.

It's not even really a refreshable theme, just a refreshable bit of text. And it would give everyone a chance to throw in some slogans and quotes for suggestions.

I'm ignorant to website coding but plenty of websites have it. I imagine if it was part of the logo banner it would involve a different banner loading each time as opposed to an entire theme.

It's epic Harbinger, I love the Big Brother eyes, can I just say 3 things like ways I think it could be even better?


-If you changed the colour at the top of the screen to maybe a lighter kind of blue, almost as light as the colour blue used below.

-Where the BB7 Eye is, there's a little smudge or something that looks like a fingerprint lol If that was gone it'd be cool, not sure what it is lol

-I love how you used the BB9, BB5, BB7 and BB6 Eyes because they all have a unique shape to them where as most of the others are templates with colours in them, if you added the BB10 and BB11 Eyes in there too instead of the two templates at the top, I think the BB11 Eye has a unique shape to it with the flowers and the BB10 one definitely does too, I mean by doing this you would be using more eyes and then keeping the template at the bottom would be cool, the one beside the advert.

-And lastly, You know under the TiBB Logo at the top? There's like a line of some sort, it kind of looks like it's sitting on a mirror with the reflection, I think the reflection is a nice touch but the line under the word 'ThisisBigBrother' isn't that good.



So that's just my ideas on how to improve it, but seriously if it won now...
I would be delighted with that theme, knocks the others out the window :love:

That's lovely stuff, Harbringer. But personal preference for me is that with BB now dead and gone [and yes - chances are it is dead and gone and even if it does come back there is ample time to fit in another competition around the theme of BB12] a BB heavy theme would be a little ... odd. I know the forum is still called This Is Big Brother but the vast majority of us have moved on and just use the place as a general chat forum because we have been here for awhile anyway.
