I got this idea from a digital spy thread: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1416211&page=2
Anyway i would say Justin Bieber and old people like The Beatles.
Justin Bieber because - Although i think hes ok, his fans have threatened to kill people who have dated him and that is just wrong
The Beatles because - People always say music is not like it use to be - or music is awful nowadays. its just so annoying.

Well, you can't argue with the fact that they were legends though, I sort of see what you're saying, I suppose most of the music I listen to is 90's stuff and older purely because I had more time to be into music when I was a teenager

yeah but if they are so called 'legends' why do some of the fans of older groups, mainly the beatles have to constantly say music is bad now. and it will never be the same. etc. it's just negative and not everyone shares that view, personally i think the beatles are awful.

Queen were more 70s/80s again as with the Beatles I discovered them after they were actually a band, the dress sense and videos seemed a bit chessy alright but just because it was a bit out of date by then but their songs are timeless imo

Anyone who blindly devotes twelve months of their life to the current X-Factor bore until the next one comes along. Usually because they find them good looking.
Justin Bieber fans are a bit of an obvious one.
30 Seconds To Mars have some of the most pretentious fans on the planet. They often like to refer to themselves in the third person as 'Echelon' ... kind of like it's a secret society or something. They are tuning into music on a higher level than us mere mortals and are helping change the world or something. I don't know.
Angry metal fans who know everything there is to know about metal but are laughably clueless when it comes to other forms of music.
Scene kids and indie kids of all shapes and sized.
Anyone who complains about electronic music 'selling out' or not being what it was when they were rolling around in the mud catching AIDS off a dodgy E in 1989.
People who namecheck bands like Opeth, Dreamtheatre and Tool just to look intellectual.

Justin Bieber
His fans are annoying little bastards who think one day he will come and sleep with them, They need to calm the ****** down and leave Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber haters alone.
That 'Declaration of War' knob that was on YouTube a few months back is the perfect example of why his fans need to be put in a concentration camp.
The Beatles
I don't have a major problem with them really but their fans need to get their heads out of their arses and realise they aren't that bloody good, Jesus.
I'm not saying anyone is better than them or anything like that, I just think 'The Band That Changed Everything' slogan iTunes have going is very ridiculous.
Lady GaGa
I love Lady GaGa's music and I am a fan of hers but for God's sake, Her fans need to calm down aswell and stop referring to themselves as her 'Little Monsters' do they have any idea how ******ing stupid they look?
And the way they treat her like a God, I love her and think she could be as big as Madonna in a few years time sure, but I don't go around shoving it in everyone's faces and calling myself a 'Little Monster' or referring to her as 'Mamma Monster' I mean, Just cut yourselves.

What Beatles albums have you listened to?
People are entitled to say music is rubbish nowdays. I think the vast majority music is rubbish nowdays. I think everything in the charts is balless, souless, cock sucking devil jizm. Would you rather I lie? Difference is I am coming from a position of knowledge. You are not. You only know new stuff.
I think you are only mentioning The Beatles so much because it annoys you that you are surrounded by much more knowledgable people who think by and large that the stuff you listen to is horrid. So then this thread is not a decleration of opinion moreso a chance to vent on those people for simply being more open minded. Like their knowledge threatens you or something.
I don't mean to sound insulting but that's the way I see it. It seems a little obvious. Truth hurtz.
I just think 'The Band That Changed Everything' slogan iTunes have going is very ridiculous.
They did change everything. In what way is it a riddiculous slogan?

And how exactly would I be jealous of them?

I'm not a fan of MJ because let's be realistic for a second: the guy was a genius, whether people like or not. His music doesn't appeal to me because I've got to recognize he made an impact. Period.
And I was looking for Kraftwerk, I just forgot the name :joker: But yeah, they did a great job too.
As for Elvis, my hero and my idol, not just for the music he made but for what he stood for, his whole philosophy and what he meant through his music. My latest tattoo (go check Facebook ) has my favourite title song from him "Burning Love". That may not be his best song, but it means a lot to me. And that's what made him special, to inspire people.

Patrick The Beatles influenced everything from popular songwriting, to the way these songs were recorded and produced. They changed everything from a sonic level right down to a presentation level. They challenged the ideas and ideals of what a band was, they were hugely, hugely controversial, they mastered both writting charting pop songs and long, complex conceptual works of high experimentation. They even influenced the way album artwork was presented. The way rockstars lived their lives. The way touring was not always an option.
They practically invented a culture all on their own then brought it over to America for good measure. They have an entire Wikipedia article dedicated soley to their legacy and influence on popular culture.
Of course people are going to jump on you for showing unabashed displays of ignorance. You just asked someone to explain to you what infulence The Beatles had because you had no idea yourself yet you are also complaining about people who are calling you up on simply not knowing what you are talking about?
You can't have it both ways for christ sake, kid.
Most people who don't like their music are generally anyone who has never sat down with a pair of headphones, turned off their phone, ****ed off from a Big Brother forum for at least an hour of their lives and listened from start to finish one of the bands later albums. Plenty of kidz also denounce their influence because it just seems like a cool thing to do. I Totally aree with what patrick said, and everything is right. and people have proved it by defending the beatles straight away as soon as 1 post that is barely negative about them. Beatles fans are so defensive, and just like patrick said imo they changed nothing because they aren't that good espeacilly vocally (as patrick said). and yeah if im defensive of leona its like 'dont be so defensive' but with the beatles its exactly the same. Patrick i think your right
They did change everything. This is a fact. It's not for you to argue with. Also they were fantastic singers. Especially John Lennon. Listen to his song 'Mother' and then get back to me.
Besides, being a great musician extends far beyond having pitch perfect voice. It's about having a voice with character. You seem to think music's worth can be defined by how many notes a musician can hit. That's complete bollocks. Writing ones own material, playing ones own intruments and being inventive and creative in the studio all matter far, far more than 'having a lovely voice'.
Of course people are going to be defensive when what you are coming out with is wrong.

Look who's talking about being overly defensive. Bitch jumps on everybody whenever they talk about Leona so don't ****ing call us out because not only it has been proven that the Beatles changed the face of music but they have done much more than ugly horse face Leona ever will if she ever lasts as long as they did (which I highly doubt)

Oh wait, age isn't an excuse after all, I was 12 when I discovered Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones etc... and I'm pretty sure Stu, Karl, Shaun (great music taste too) and a few others here went through the same fate.

It's not a matter of opinion, you like whoever you want to. I never said my music tastes are better than yours because I didn't.
All we stated are facts: the above mentioned artists are LEGENDS, whether you like it or not. It's real, it's happening, it's noticed, it's a fact. I'm not expecting you to understand because clearly, you can't but at least I put my point across.
Just read what has been going on in the music industry for the past 40 years and you'll see the truth. It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact and influence these artists had on what you have in your iPod/mp3 player. That's it, no matter to discuss.

I can't really say. I've met so many people who seem so level-headed and normal on the surface and then you find out they listen to Creed. Madness. :conf2:
I find pop singers in general inspire disgustingly fanatical levels of devotion in people, that tends to spill over onto review sites where anybody who would dare criticise the flavour of the month had best prepare to get mobbed by hysterical middle-aged women. Expect oestrogen-fuelled platitudes like "well he sells loads of records so your opinion doesn't count", "you're just a music snob and out of touch with real people" and my favourite "you have no right to criticise until you get your own multimillion pound record deal".

Justin Beiber and JLS are not album based artists. In fact they are built from the ground up to be sold on the strenght of their singles. You are comparing a multi talented band who produced multi layerd, complex concept albums and skin deep artists whose albums are simply holding pens for a collection of ghost penned singles.
Someone who has only heard one or two Beatles song on the radio will have something to learn from listening to the albums. Someone who has only heard one or two Justin Beiber songs on the radio will have absoloutely nothing to learn doing likewise.

I was going to ignore all of the bizarre arguments in the thread but to further Vicky's point about playing the devil's advocate; surely to base an informed opinion on any artist's material you have to listen to all of it, and I think the only TiBB member who can genuinely say that they do that is Shaun, which is why by and large you should all bow down to his opinions - at least they're informed, therefore there's more validity in what he's saying.
Anyway as for irritating fanbases, I'd say Lady Gaga's are the most annoying at the moment because they rave on about all this stuff she does as if she's innovating promoting gay rights or meat is murder or whatever the hell it is she does - accept that while she is doing positive things for those causes, she is absolutely using the fact she's a celebrity to get her point across, just like every other celebrity who has an opinion. She is not any different in that respect. And then I don't know how best to describe the other type of fanbase that annoys me, but that scene, emo sort of vibe that I used to vaguely be connected to that is full of 14 year olds who get emotionally invested in a band, go on about how they 'heard them first, before you heard of them' and take their teenage angst out via their bands or their hatred for other people for liking their bands and then suddenly realise the whole scene they immersed themselves in is still aimed at 14 year old teenagers and they've got nothing to be a part of anymore. :bored:

No you don't. I explained this in what I thought was a pretty fair, logical way. It's a myth to think you have to listen to an entire artists output when you are talking about people who are 'artists' in inverted commas. Compare Leona Lewis with Rocky. It's a safe course. None of it strays from it's blueprint too much. After watching the first three Rocky films you can work out with a fair degree of accuracy if you are going to like the fourth one.

Surely you've listened to an album that's thrown up surprisingly good song(s)? I doubt Justin Bieber would record a song that challenges ideas or expresses controversial views because he's aimed at a fanbase that would not appreciate such material; but plenty of other artists do so in this day and age; I think I understand the point MM&I is trying to make, that a lot of people rubbish all of modern music because it's not the golden era of music anymore. He then went and undermined his argument by trying to justify his favourite singer (emphasis on singer) as a reason why modern music is not crap, but on the whole I agree it's a bit annoying after a while to read 'ugh, all music is crap compared to the 60s' because that's just as much of a narrow view as someone whose favourite music is today's music rubbishing the work of The Beatles.
p.s. My world has been shattered, Shaun doesn't listen to everything ever. :o
p.p.s. I did not say Shaun's the only one allowed a valid opinion, what a ridiculous assumption, I said "I think the only TiBB member who can genuinely say that they do that is Shaun, which is why by and large you should all bow down to his opinions - at least they're informed, therefore there's more validity in what he's saying" by which I meant he listens to albums and reviews them, rather than spouting off opinions like MM&I's which are entirely baseless. I did not say Shaun's the only person with a valid opinion, I said there's more validity in what he's saying because we know he actually makes the effort to research before opening his mouth.

I'm tired of this notion that people who are fans of 'old' music [what a riddiculous concept] and constantly dump on new music are only doing it to appear knowledgeable or zany. Is it not at all possible that one can simply find the vast majority of new music to be disposable garbage? How on earth is that a 'narrow view'? It's completely different to someone like MM&I saying old music is crap because that's not an informed opinion. MM&I doesn't listen to old music. Has never even tried. We are all exposed to new music.
I listen to albums too. I just don't post reviews in public domains. I don't listen to albums by artists I know I won't enjoy because it would be a waste of time and it would not change my opinion. As I said singles based artists can be judged on the basis of their singles. An album from Leona Lewis or Justin Bieber is nothing more than a holding pen for potential singles. Do you think it is necessary to watch every single episode of Skins before one can say with any amount of certainty that Skins isin't really for them?
I could go and listen to a Sugababes album and if I do it enough through the magic of repetition a certain song might stick out and drill itself into my mind ... it happens to everyone at supermarkets when they fill their trolleys to some humdrum ambient melodies ... but I don't really have to do it in order to say I'm not into the Sugababes.
And seriously ... I'm just looking for good music. It doesn't have to be 'expressing controversial views' or 'challenging' me lol.

LOL At least i don't go on about You Me At Six 24/7, like you do with Lady GaGa.

I said all, not vast majority, I was speaking about those who literally do do what you described. Those who do that about ALL modern music hold just as narrow a view as those like MM&I who don't give older stuff a chance, because it's the exact same opinion, just on opposing sides. That's why anyone listens to albums - because they enjoy them - but to have a properly balanced opinion, then by any standard you'd need to know what you're talking about, right? I'm not claiming I do it either, I'm just saying that a person with an informed opinion is someone who has done their research - just like any other debate. How do you know you won't enjoy something until you give it a try? Again, I'm just playing devil's advocate here - it's not as if I do this myself, but I mean with the Skins or the Sugababes examples you gave, who's to say there won't be a flash in the pan that takes you by surprise and you take enjoyment out of it? You don't know until you try - but you can certainly make your mind up based on a sample of material, as I reckon everyone does - why would you force yourself to listen/watch something that has failed to appeal to you previously - it just isn't an entirely informed opinion.
Anyway, I'm going to step out of this debate now, I'm verging on clueless when it comes to music, I'm just trying to make the point that while people are ****ting on MM&I for his point, I get what he's trying to say - people who say all modern music is crap can't say that unless they've given all modern music a try, which although would be pretty much impossible, if someone who had that opinion gave modern music a chance, they'd surely come across something that they don't think is crap.
You seem to be talking about something that doesn't exist then. I have never met either on this forum or in real life someone who has said all modern music is throwaway. And if they did say that chances are it was a generalization not designed to be taken seriously.
Billions of modern songs exist on the internet. It's implausible to be capable of hating each and every one of them. In the case that you do know such people in real life then you are right they are obviously as ignorant as people who say all old music is bad or something along those lines. Yin to the yang.

Hvent read the thread but...
whenever I see a Gaga item on the internet Im always nauseated reading the comments by her fans below it. They just come across like lost little kids looking for a surrogate Mummy. Tragic. And creepy.
I would have to say Justin Beiber
