Marchlands (http://www.itv.com/dramapremieres/marchlands/)

Starts Thursday 3rd February, 9pm

Alex Kingston (Hope Springs, ER) and Jodie Whittaker are among a host of stars in Marchlands, the first collaborative creation from ITV and Fox.

It's a gripping story of three different families living in the same house in the 1960s, 1980s and present day.

Watch a preview above

The families are linked by the spirit of a young girl – the 1960’s family’s daughter, who died in mysterious circumstances...

Marchlands also stars Dean Andrews (Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars), Shelley Conn (Strike Back, Mistresses), Anne Reid (Ladies of Letters, Five Days), Elliot Cowan (The Fixer, Lost in Austen), Denis Lawson (Criminal Justice, The Passion), Jamie Thomas King (Mad Men, The Tudors) and Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools and Horses).

Looks good from the ads I've seen. Preview in the link

Looks good. The cast looks pretty decent aswell.
Hopefully it's nothing like Little House or that other one with David Jason which both ended terribly. But still it's something different to Taggart, Corrie and Midsomer Murders.

Was a good episode last night! :)

I hope we start getting some answers next week though! lol

I had a dream last night about "Marshlands"

I dreamt that a psycho woman was chasing the little girl Alice. She fell over and was next to the pond/river and her hands were in it. The psycho woman then took her neclace and cardigan and ran off. Then these 3 children appeared from nowhere. They could have been ghosts and they told Alice to jump into the pond like a star. She then ended up in the pond floating deep into it. Can't remember if she jumped in herself or if these other children pushed her? :S Strange dream. lol

^^ Doubt this is what will happen on the actual show though!

The start of your dream is a bit like my theory on it -

I think it was the Grand mother that killed her. She seems a bit off

The hand at the end was quite unsettling, I didn't think we'd actually see the ghost. I like how the characters are starting to cross over now although I'm wondering what the significance of Nisha's OH's relationship with the deaf woman is.

Oh my god. You could be right. Why would the grandmother kill her own grandaughter though? Okay.. I can't remember this child who made a sign for Ruth? Was that in the first episode? I might have to look back!!

It was a bit of a scary dream I had. It was like I was Alice but then afterwards I saw Alice in front of me. One of them dreams when you are the character but then in the next scene.. you are yourself and see the character in front of you! Weird.

I don't know why she would kill her but she seems like a bit of a bitch, maybe she accidentally did it? and yeah, that was the first episode when Ruth went into town and she walked through a park I think and a woman walked past her with a blonde girl and Ruth looked back and the girl turned round and did a sign

Anne Reid is a wonderful actress and brought some very moving scenes in last night's episode.

I did wonder if Ruth might have murdered her daughter, only she's not aware of this, then it started going all Shutter Island on me so I stopped thinking.

It's quite a moving story, so far....

I hope the answer is far away from where people are trying to work it out. I don't like the thought it could be one of the family and would feel a little cheated if that was the case.

I'm really enjoying the mystery that surrounds the death of Alice and if the first two episodes are anything to go by, I'm really excited about the rest of the episodes.

True. There are 3 episodes to go! Can't wait until it all unravels. :) There is also something to do with the painting on the wall.... in 2010.. that pregnant woman peeled that wall with that big painting and Alice was on it. But apparently in the 60's.. in that photograph of Alice in her room.. Alice's painting of herself was not on the wall in the woods? Mmm.

Yes, I see where you're coming from. I felt a little anxious when (Reid's) Ruth was bathing Alice in 2010, I began to panic thinking (Reid) Ruth may start to harm Alice.....

I was pleased when Eddie started to believe Amy and when he found the news report of Alice dying in 1967 I so wanted him to show Helen.

oh we're getting close to the truth now, i reckon she was playing with Olive and accidentally fell in the water and her mother covered it up for Olive

I think you might be right.

It was the best episode last night for me. Can't wait for the finale next week!

I can't wait, have loved this series. A great ghost story with some really creepy moments. Will be switching off the phone and pouring a glass of wine to enjoy the last episode:blush:

At Last
the Stubborn woman gets to see a Shock in the Washing Machine.

I think I would Run from that.

What a dissapointing ending to such a great series.
Such a shame.

Tame ending. I expected a bigger twist. Still good though. I enjoyed that. Ages since I've watched a good drama

I don't think the ending was disappointing story-wise. I'm glad they didn't go the predictable route of some of the present day characters ending up in the lake for a bit of an action sequence to try and make it exciting.
I expected someone to drown in a similar way, but it just kept the tone of the rest of the series. Quietly creepy.

The ending was a bit sh!t. I was expecting Olive's mum who was shagging Robert to have pushed Alice in the water or something. To kill her because she wouldn't want it spreading around that she was Robert's mistress. But even that didn't happen. Ahh well.

I loved it but the ending was a little crap and a bit predictable. I thought that Olive woman had something to do with it because theres no other reason for her being in the show really. if Olives mum threw her in it could have made it a bit more dramatic :joker: but it was pretty effective

Would've been nice to see Ruth see a happy non-corpse Alice at the end to tie it all up.

Now I already had a suspicion that the grandfather was involved somehow, but I was thinking more along the lines of he was abusing her which was why she was running away. The truth was a lot more mundane, and somehow didn't add a lot to the story. The fact that it was all about how Alice was hanging around in the house till her mother returned doesn't really do it for me. Apart from the disappointing ending though I have enjoyed the different storylines of the three families.

I quite liked the ending of it actually, like Alice wanted her mother to know that she was a good girl and that she hadn't ran away when her Grand Dad told her to wait for him like he said happened. Also, I think the mother from the 80's saying to Amy that she thinks she was wrong about Alice and that she was a good girl showed that too.

It is indeed one of the best dramas I've certainly seen in ages.
