.....The council's former Labour leader, Chris Redmayne, said his party had worked very hard in Crawley on local matters and had tried to campaign on what it thought was important.

'Good fight'

"We've stuck with local issues and local matters. We've lost this council, but we'll be back," he said.

One candidate who failed to get elected in Crawley was Big Brother 6 runner-up Eugene Sully, who was the Labour candidate for Furnace Green.

The 29-year-old broadcast engineer said he thought he had put up a "good fight".

"I felt there were things that I could offer the local council... but I think I'm going to have to concentrate my efforts next year to try and run again," he said.

Im not really surprised- the country as a whole is fed up with Labour and everything Blair represents.

I dont think its a reflection on Eugene.

think he would have made a great councillor but not a very good mp should he ever decide to run in general election.

Personally, a Eugene run government would get involved with the KIDS more....something most governments fail upon.

This new generation of voters are going for smaller parties.
Like the Lib Dems and The Green Party!

Till they start earning and realise the lib dems are all about increasing taxs with no clue how to run the economy..and the greens would have us paying half our wages on fuel.
Eugenes in the right party Gladders..but local elections are a million miles away from general elections and is eugene uncoruptable? we saw how he went for the money first chance he got.
Eugene would be a good councillor getting things done at a local level like pushing for youth centres and stuff but i dont think hes tough enough for the big league of mps.

Eugene hopes to run at the next general election...

.....From slips of the tongue to general slip-ups, the excitable Eugene Sully made the only theatrical fall of the night when he stumbled over a tripod shortly after midnight.

He found his feet but failed to win his seat before proudly announcing that he hopes to run as a Labour MP in the next general election.

He said: "I am disappointed that I didn't win but I am going to continue in politics.

"I have put in an application to be put forward as an MP so we shall see what happens with that."

A nerve-wracking wait for results meant the bar proved popular with candidates looking for a drink to steady their nerves or quench their thirst.....

I hope he does get elected as an MP, even though I am a Tory!
