View Full Version : Britons Use The "PC Card" Way Too Often

Seriously, Brits have used this term as an excuse to say whatever the heck they want in an effort to shield themselves from criticism. The "PC card" needs to end. It's a broken record at this point, and a total cliche. I'm sick of hearing it. It's "PC this", and "PC that". Enough!

I agree it's used a lot by nutters to defend being a nutter but more often than not a lot of people correctly use it too so it's not really as simple and one sided as you put it.

PC does indeed suck most of the time.

Obviously?

This is something I've learned from watching Big Brother from the Housemates, Producers and Fans.

I think you read the OP the wrong way maybe. He is making the point that crude, crass, bigotted people often use the term 'PC going crazy' to defend their views. Not that PC actually has gone crazy which seems to be the main consensus with a lot of BB fans with regard to the show in it's final years.

Unless you didn't read it wrong in which case forget everything I said.

Yes, I agree to a certain extent. There are times where political correctness might go too far granted, but a lot of the time it's just become a way for bigots to shrug off any criticism off their prejudice it seems.

It's thrown around way too often. Drives me mad. The powers that be won't be happy until everyone sits indoors with their mouths shut 24/7

Another one for the 'might have got the original post the wrong way around' basket.

Or else I'm just deeply, deeply confused.

And do you hear people use it or read about it on a dailly basis then?

'PC gone mad' is one of the most tiresome, trite phrases in the collective anglophone unconscious (up there with 'that's life') and springs from a mostly imagined sense of persecution of white, straight, protestant men.

At other times such groups will parrot the phrase at any and every opportunity in order to fend off genuine concerns raised about their lack of tolerance or sensitivity (because tolerance is such a bad thing ).
