Does it annoy you when people say this? And what does this say about Eminem, to me he sounds like most other rappers? Maybe it's all to do with his colour  Or maybe people are idiots :bored:

Cause he needed the shock value for the album..... its tame in comparison to what he used to rap about....

I expect 99% of the people who say this have never looked into rap. Eminem is pretty much pop, and has been since 2000.

What Shaun said. None of them know nowt about rap. They just eat up the one rapper who has been fed to them on a plate since the late 90's. A bit like people who think Pendulum are this great, zany rave act or Tiesto is a god because they know very little about electronic music.

Yeah but my whole point is people claim to not like rap at all and see Eminem as something different. But I guess some of his songs are

Not really, it's just saying generally you dislike rap, but eminems and exception

It could be the same with any other genre really

An unrealistically high number of people seem to have an absoloute disdain for rap whilst loving Eminem. Eminem is one of the few long running solo rappers to have enormous mainstream attention. He is also white and funny.

A coincidence it is not. Most people who already hate rap and see no reason to grow an appreciation for it are not going to throw on an LP by the Wu Tang Clan. They will, however, see Shady and his chums muck about in nice, naughty four minute at a time dosages.

Really, I dont see any funny videos from the last album??? Infact the last funny video was "We Made You" back in 2009 I think.....

that wasnt even funny O_o

I'm talking more about his career in general I guess. He was already huge and loved by non rap fans before We Made You.

Also the lack of funny videos seems to run simultaneous with his dropping share. I wonder how mute the reception would have been to his latest stuff without Rihanna there to lend her voice to that track. I think a lot of people understandably see him as being a lot more bland these days.

How many albums does a guy need to get out the fact that he kicked drugs? [don't shoot me ].

I agree with a lot of that he needs to move away from the whole "I'm sober" thing, there's good songs on recovery that dont mention the whole drug/drink thing....

As for the Rihanna thing I'm not sure, I'd say you could be right but then again who knows?? I really just want an album of hatred without any guests (apart from some unknowns...I'd like a song with Yelawolf to see what he'd be like now that he has the financing to produce a half decent song). Something old school, sadly as I've said before Eminem is dead he died with halfway through Encore. Now we have Marshall Mathers and glimpses of Slim Shady.....it works for me at the minute so I'm not gonna complain too much

OK In One, I'll bite. I'm pretty much allergic to rap, but will listen to Eminem and the main reason is that I think he's a very clever and competent lyricist. I love poetry and literature and the shoite that normally passes for lyrics in rap offends my ears. I also think that Eminem's moments of misogyny are tongue in cheek, whereas a lot more of it, well, isn't. Having said all of that, I do think he's a bit of a controversy ***** and has sacrificed a lot of his credibility by pushing the envelope way too far. I really didn't like the Rihanna thingy. Very crass, I thought.

Yeah hate who he is working with at the moment :bored: He has enough money that he shouldn't care about selling records, should just put out stuff without megastars. Example is that leaked track 'Cocaine' great song with a pretty much unknown in, don't think it's that old either. And that "We Made You" is almost as back as "Fack" Almost... lol

His flow isn't totally there in it. He changes half way through and goes too fast sometimes.

How many other rappers have you tried? Genuine Hip Hop artists or todays muck?

Wu Tang, Public Enemy, Tupac, KRS-One ... those boys can string a meaningful lyric together as well as Eminem ever could.

Obviously it wasn't mastered either which is why it sounded kinda scratchy

That's why I like Dre, you'd never catch him working with the likes of Rihanna or Katy Perry

Snoop and Em :nono:

I do always wonder if Biggie and 2pac would've sold out

I dunno, I guess he stands out for various reasons - he writes witty lyrics, he makes pops at various figures in popular culture, his music is radio friendly, the anger behind some of his songs is remarkable, he's done collaborations with the right sort of people at the right sort of time (Dido at her peak, Rihanna at her peak to give two examples off the top of my head) to remind everyone he's still on top of his game. Sure he's had a few misfires but most artists have; I think he's that accessible bridge between pop and the rap genre, in the same way that Jay Z or Kanye West are, for example.

Dido was pretty much an unknown at the time. She shot to fame after working with him.
