'Big Brother' Channel 5 deal 'weeks away'
Saturday, January 29 2011, 20:27 GMT
By Daniel Sperling, Entertainment Reporter
Talks to bring Big Brother to Channel 5 are at "an advanced stage", industry insiders have claimed.
Broadcast reports that negotiations between the reality show's production company Endemol and Richard Desmond, the owner of Channel 5, have re-opened in recent months and a final deal could be just a few weeks away.
The publication claims that the agreement could tie Big Brother to the broadcaster for as long as five years, though this could be reduced if performance targets are missed.
Desmond is also believed to be interested in relaunching Celebrity Big Brother and extending the main programme's run past the traditional 13-week mark.
Desmond had identified Big Brother as an ideal format for the rebranded Channel 5 following his £103.5 million takeover in July 2010. However, talks broke down in September, allegedly over Desmond's determination to pay less than the estimated £70 million price tag attached to Channel 4's three-year contract for the programme in 2006.
Big Brother concluded its 11th and final series on Channel 4 on August 24, 2010. The show's 'last' episode, which saw series two champion Brian Dowling win an Ultimate competition, aired 17 days later and ended with the message "Big Brother will get back to you."

Anyway what age do you have to be to audition to Big Brother these days? Was it 16 or 18?
They said they COULD have it for up to 5 Years!
That's like 2016 ['cus I doubt it'll start this year]!
OMG.
So if you have to be 16 to audition for Big Brother, You'll be able to watch me on Big Brother 13 [because I don't turn 16 until next year in August so I'll of missed the launch]
And if it has to be 18, you'll all see be on like Big Brother 15
But as Shaun said, Channel 5 are faily.
It could, infact it probably will flop, UNLESS they COMPLETELY like COMPLETELY revamp this bitch.
I reckon if it is brought back it may do good for the first series because people may of realised what a tragic loss it was to their lives to have Big Brother snatched away from them, and they'll appreciate it more.

BB10 was rubbish most of the time.
It showed how good it can be if they pick a good bunch of Housemates, because let's face it Marcus Akin was Big Brother in 2009.
And Charlie, What a legend and I'll never forget Bea and Halfwit when Bea was told to go to Jail and Halfwit bounced up to lock her in but Roddy got it first and she was like:
'Ahhh, Darn!'
'Oh sorry Freddy, Can't make it everytime..'
'Yeah what can you do eh? Haha!'
'Hehe.. Little ******er!'
And Roddy just goes 'Oooh.. How Rude Bea!'
:joker::joker:
But the production of BB10 was a ******ing disgrace.
They need to do what they did in BB5, BB6, BB7 and BB9.
Get the producers working their dicks off to make it amazing and have outstanding housemates.

I hated the 11 tasks too ... actually I hated everything about it. I'm a purist when it comes to the production of the show and music on Big Brother ... video montages on Big Brother ... it was sickening. I didn't like a single housemate ... the house that looked so amazing in the pics just looked daft on TV ... and I can't even remember a single task.
BB10's tasks were rubbish too. The task team basically had a map of the world and uh ... yeah.
Patrick's got it right when he said it was all about the housemates. Virtually nothing Channel 4 did helped the show and the entire thing was down to the housemates being fantastic.

and if they are bringing CBB back they need to stop trying to get A list celebs and concentrate more on getting entertaining nobodys that nobody has heard of
like they paid 1/2 million for vinnie jones and not even 1/10 of that for pete burns who pissed all over him in terms of entertainment
DigitalSid
29-01-2011, 08:21 PM
On one hand Broadcast, being a dedicated, industry read, media magazine, is usually a reliable source, on the other, not even Dickie Desmond is stupid enough to sign a five year deal for a show that spent it's last few years on the other channel on a one way ticket south.
A one year deal with a five year option is more believable (but even then, unlikely).
If it is true, cool, but incase it isn't I won't get my hopes up. If it does return it won't be back before christmas, so I intend to try and get into BBUS this year.

Couldn't of said it better myself.
BB11 felt more like an 'Event' and was talked about alot more than BB10 was.
So when watching that it felt like everyone was and it didn't feel like that in '09 because we were all aware of how badly BB10 was doing.
I was watching a random episode of it on Thursday Morning there, I was bored, and it basically reminded me of how it went downhill when it became all about Noirin.
But before that when it was about Marcus and Sree constantly fighting and stuff like that, was brilliant.
The only down points [like i said about the producers earlier] was the house was a disgrace and the tasks were dull and recycled.
The housemates literally ran the show, I don't mean that in the sense the producers were doing jack all.. well that too, but I mean there were times when Siavash and Marcus could just walk all over the producers, Marcus especially.

This is very true.
On launch and stuff the house just looked ridiculous, the glass walls made it look awkward and everything just looked really weird.
In the pictures it looked ten times better that may of been down to the fact they were of the unfinished house before Bob Righter and that went in, or down to the fact the house just wasn't made for TV.

Watch BB5 and you'll jizz 10 minutes into every episode, and that's not just because Michelle Bass had her tits out all the time.

It just seemed like the entire house was that stupid circular seating that encouraged the housemates to bore us all to tears on as they lounged around it like cats giving each other back rubs. It was horrendous. I actually rathered BB10's recession casualty of a pressure cabin far more. Didn't see the problem with it as a house at all apart from the dodgy diary room and uninspired can I haz Celebrity Hijack bedroom.
I actually stopped watching that series [11] halfway through.

Basically half the house won a task and were told to move a pot plant out of the way and found a secret room...it was used on fridays i think and it changed theme every week like for Ray's (the Irish guy) it was turned into an Irish bar...then for someone else it was a disco room........

Yeah, but in terms of getting the initial ratings you need a big name to attract viewers which is what makes the money
This.
Look at how much hype CBB7 got, abit over rated IMO but that may of been because in school I was always like insulted around May and June about Big Brother and then in January last year everyone was like orgasming over CBB7 and we're like 'Patrick this is so much better than the summer bollocks you watch' and I'm like 'NO IT'S NOT!'
But anyway, The reason CBB7 was so big was down to people like Vinnie Jones and Basshunter being in it along with Alex and Dane being together.
Because they were known, may not of been entertaining but still.
If he brings CBB back he needs to get about 4 or 5 'well known' celebrities, IN THE UK not ******ing Hollywood Stars only 80 year olds would know.
And then get some of the nobodies who create drama.

I actaully really enjoyed big brother 11 , one of my favourites (all time favourite bb5 or bb7) i thought the housemates were brillant , the tasks were the best they've ever been , i never got bored , it was funny and sad. There was never a dull moment! Ok , the house wasnt good, in fact it felt more like a tv set. But i really enjoyed the extra's in there like bob righter , davina parrot and the tree of temptation. Also friday nights werent all about the eviction most nights featured extras, like jedward(though they were awful) , mario's magic task and corin and andrew singing to the crowd. Overall , a brillant series , i was sad to see it go !

Pffft, was the most scripted and controlled BB ever. Josie was set to win very early on.

Desmond is also believed to be interested in relaunching Celebrity Big Brother and extending the main programme's run past the traditional 13-week mark.
That doesn't sound appealing. I'll probably watch out of interest but unless it's so good that I want to keep watching I can't see myself watching especially beyond 13 weeks. Found I was forcing myself to watch by the end of BB11 which may have been a better series if it was a couple of weeks shorter. There'll be more walkouts than ever.
But suppose we can look out for the likely candidate to replace Davina. That's if she sticks to her word. Or maybe she got wind they were replacing her so had to make it known she didn't want to do it anyway. lol

I agreee.
Well I could watch Big Brother all year around actually, but If he's interested in taking the show up to 2016 [or over?] but it depends on how well it performs in ratings, then he's making a VERY wrong decission extending Big Brother in the summer.
The whole reason people switch off half way through is down to it being longer than like 9 weeks, and he wants to bring it up to god knows how long? God.
Only MASSIVE fans will stay on it.
It will be good to hear 'Day 100' finally being said though, OMG I wonder if Marcus would return?

I don't know how my feelings are towards this yet. I already think i'm over Big Brother, even though I was a massive fan. It said it's goodbye's, there was an all-stars series and it seemed like it was an end of an era. I don't like five either...I haven't watched a programme the whole way through on the channel, but then again who am I to day that it will fail if i've never watched anything on the channel. If it does succeed to Five, i'll probably be watching it anyway.

I kind of hope it succeeds on 5 for 2 reasons:
One: If it does then we get more series and then I can go on

Well this was obviously going to happen... with the direction Desmond is taking Channel Five, Big Brother totally fits the bill. I'm pretty sure we'll get a series this year. The house is there, coz the extended the lease, all they've got to do is cast, plan & redo the house. That's beside revamping the **** out of the format.

Think about it, it takes ages to do the house up especially when the house is completely tore apart inside, at least in previous years they had a fair base because the rooms where still there.
Auditions take ages to plan, advertise, narrow down etc
I can't see us getting BB12 this year, sadly.
It'd be so rushed, ESPECIALLY if he wants to extend it.
It'd run waay into September because it wouldn't start until July or something.
In a way, I want there to be one ASAP but if it was on next year, we'd finally be on track instead of constantly being one year behind the series.
Example:
2008, Big Brother 9.
2009, Big Brother 10.
It'll be:
2012, Big Brother 12 :p

They should just spend less time on them then, like in BB6 when Maxwell and Saskia were together the whole show wasn't about them.
In BB9 the whole show wasn't about Luke and Bex.
We just saw enough time of them to like/hate them same goes for other romances.
In BB11 Josie and John were SHOVED down our throats.
It ruined John's chances because he was a legendary housemate and should of won, but she dragged him down the cow.

I think I must be one of the rare ones that actually enjoyed the John James and Josie thing, it was obvious from the beginning and I could tell it was for the cameras. Unlike Sophie and Kris when that was blatantly obvious and was more transparent than my bedroom windows. Although, I do agree that they we far to heavily focused on, perhaps they were struggling to get more material to make up the full hour?
Anway, Channel Five would surely give them alcohol on tap, so it makes for better viewing. A guy owning porn channels will want the sh1t to fly.

Caroline Flack presented BBBM a few times I think and Fearne Cotton is mates with Davina so, possibly. But Fearne's presenting style is a little irritating. Like on that Must Be The Music, her kind of monotonic voice was grating. Although, after Davina's shouting it might be a nice change lol.

The show will be revamped. Channel 5 will be more lenient and give al the housemates more booze and parties.
It should ALWAYS be a vote to SAVE.
Not sure if they will do this though. The company earns more money if it's a vote to EVICT. More people vote if it's a vote to EVICT I think.
However with a vote to save it will more likely secure the entertaining ones to stay in, in which the public will take higher interest and will hopefully result in higher ratings.

Blog home Will Desmond make Big Brother red hot?
Share Comments (0) According to a Sunday Times story today, Richard Desmond has resurrected his hopes of screening Big Brother on Channel 5.
He believes, says the story, that "he can breathe new life into the show's format, which could be heavily promoted in his publications [the Daily Express and Daily Star plus OK! magazine]."
But one key reason for BB's past success was the level of coverage it received in all the tabloids.
I imagine that, should C5 get the show, it will get precious little space in rival papers and magazines, especially given the public's loss of enthusiasm for it.
Then again, what does "new life" mean? Perhaps Desmond plans to draw on the values exhibited by the television channels in his Red Hot TV portfolio, such as Dirty Talk, Filth and Television X.

Rumours are flying around Facebook that Big Brother is 'DEFINITELY' Coming Back
How do I know?
Because I've seen people posting it on their statuses and then other fans I haven't spoke to sense summer just asked me on Chat if it was true because they seen it in other people's statuses aswell.
But it's clearly bull, if it was confirmed WE would know before a bunch of chavs on Facebook.
But hey it's getting BB Publicity so...

Mmm think it will come back. Not sure if they can get a house ready and that for this summer though? Wait.. what about the usual house in Borehamwood? Can't they still use that?

The house is there and can be used for tv purposes because they endemol asked the local council for renewed planning permission. But I suppose channel 5 have a choice as to whether they want to use it or not. A new house would be good, though.

If they used the old house this year, it would mean they would have to go and find a new house for Big Brother 15 [if it made it to that] as Endemol's Borehamwood House is being demolished in 2013.

Not necessarily. It was supposed to be pulled down last september, but they asked for permission to be extended. So they could easily just do that again. Don't forget that they've renewed the permission before this, last time was pre-bb9.

We don't know that. After bb10, i'm sure endemol know was no live feed results in. We should get it again, even if it's paid for like last time. But nothing is confirmed yet, so anything could happen.

Ahh that's good. Well if BB was going to come back this year they would have to use the same house. If they want a new house BB won't be back until next year or even a few years down the line.. :(

This. I wouldn't mind even paying. I got a free pass last year but if they charged like 15 quid to watch the whole of live feed for the duration of the series I would pay it!

In the BB golden days C4 used to close e4 and devote it to live stream and BB spin offs. I'm sure they'd do the same or not close one of the channels over night.

I hope they dont us the same house. If it comes back it needs a complete reboot. It has to be a whole new Big Brother and it would just be depressing having the old house back.

The same house can still look different. They can change the stairs on the outside and make it completely different inside.......

Channel 5 - which is now owned by Richard Desmond - originally expressed interest in buying the rights last summer but negotiations fell through.
"Desmond bought Channel 5 midway through last year hoping to turn it around," an insider told the paper.
"Things have not gone as well for him as he would have liked, and so he needs Big Brother to prop up his summer schedules.
"But he is turning to a formula that Channel 4 decided to axe because it just wasn't bringing in enough viewers.
"Nothing is signed yet but there have been fresh discussions with Endemol after earlier negotiations broke down."
The previous talks reportedly collapsed after Endemol asked for too much money, but the paper now reports they are set to sell it for a reduced fee.
"For their part, Channel 5 feel pleased with the price now," a source added. "But whether anyone will actually watch it to give them a return for their cash is anybody's guess."

More stories  Basically saying what we knew but still
I wish people would stop being so negative and give C5 a chance for god's sake 'Whether any one will watch it..'
Big Brother 11 and CBB7 were fairly good in ratings, maybe not ALL of BB11 but still.
I'm sure if BB12 even gets like 2 Million per night that will be be good for Desmond as C5 as we all know struggles with ratings.
Big Brother usually gets 3 Million as Stu said the other day, that isn't bad but because it was such a big show, it should of been getting more.
Well it isn't a big show anymore so if it went to 5 and got it's usual 3 Million, that's quite good.
It all depends on Desmond's 'standards'.

I'm so happy! I hope it officially gets confirmed soon.
But unfortunetly I doubt we would get anything this summer. Maybe a Celeb BB next winter though.
Even ratings of 1m would be decent for C5, although they'd hope to get more obviously

I dont see how Channel 5 could resist having a show that pulls in around 3 million a night. Im not sure but im guessing even Channel 5's biggest shows ie: CSI only pull in a million? BB has a loyal hardcore fanbase and they will watch it whatever channel it goes on.

Big Brother will be the best thing for Channel 5. What exactly is the highest rating show on Channel 5 at the moment? I did read in the paper when Aladdin was on last week it raked in over 2 million viewers. Was that the highest rating show? Who knows?
Desmond would be silly not to take the show on. Also I hope there is another housemate swap from another BB house this summer. I love when other BB houses are involved. The show is massive worldwide and an institution and should have more interaction with BB houses across the globe and the public too!

They'll be wanting HD so they'd have to do that anyway.
Before you lot get excited remember this is the guy that wants the x factor & corronation street aswell.. :puzzled:

What's that got to do with anything?
He's in negotiations with endemol for the rights to Big Brother.
What's that gotta do with a single comment he made about Corrie and X Factor?
No matter how deluded that comment was.

Didn't they struggle to find a suitable, clearable location for bb3, hence settling on building on a studio water tank.

They put cameras in the Borehamwood house aswell every year in new rooms..?
It'd be impossible for them to demolish the interior and rebuild it with thousands of pounds worth of cameras sitting about.
I don't think it'd take that long, they usually begin working on the house in April if I remember correctly so they would need to sort something out soon if they decide to do it.

Ew no I don't want other countries getting involved in our show.
Maybe BB USA or BB AUS [if that came back] as then they can speak English but not like Germany.
Also there's the risk of them sending one of our favourites or big characters to America.
Although I mean for example last year, if they were to send Steve Gill to America and give us Britney from BB12 USA then It'd be cool.
Anyways, I agree Desmond is going to brick it when he turns this down and in a few months his channel flops and he's wasted tons of money.

This.
But that may be a little odd, having the 'comeback' as CBB8.
Although it may be the best thing for it, because it seems more people enjoy CBB :(
I'm a Summer Fan though so I'd rather them, if we don't have one in Summer this year, then not have one in January either.
Ideally I want them to start with BB12 then CBB8.

Really? It's on twice a day. 1:45 and 5:30pm. I am guessing the 3m ratings would be for both shows together?? Didn't think it did that well.
