View Full Version : Why Desmond/Channel 5 will kill Big Brother

- Big Brother should rest. At least for a few years, let it go out with abit of a 'bang' rather than a small drip.
- MOST LIKELY it will have less money spent on it; it will be cheaper house, tasks, presenters and poorly produced
- The public feel will be 'It's back? Again? When will they really get rid of it?'
- Desmond will lower the tone. Yes, it is good that Big Brother will have magazines and papers talking about it owned by Desmond... but he will also want to the show to help sell magazines. And what's the best way to do this? Make 'sellable' people... people will be edited it ways that people want to read about... fake relationsips will become even MORE prominent, anyone can be edited into 'the biggest bitch', the gay camp man will be edited into 'everyones best friend'.... the highlights won't be a fair story, instead a show that will sell papers.
The fourth is my biggest fear... and sadly the one most likely to happen.

I agree in some points, yes Big Brother should rest for a few years, maybe two or three, because it makes UBB look like the most pointless eXtravaganza ever.
But I dont think Desmond will lower the tone, cuz scandal sells a lot, and judging by the fact that he owns adults channels, I'd say BBUK will become a little more like the other european BB's with more of nudity and sex ( hopefully, lol).

Yeah it hasnt even been gone a year, it will just destroy C4's send off if they bring it back too soon, 2013 would be perfect......2011 is too soon, 2012 is the Olympics which will leave a massive dent in the ratings....its just too soon.

Well, perhaps Channel 4 were worng too in calling it the Ultimate Big Brother,if there had always been a chance of a new deal elsewhere then perhaps Channel 4 should have kept its options open, not allowed the programme to be so run down by the then production team, then call it the Ultimate Big Brother on Channel 4.
It will hold the bulk of its audience no matter the format, people like this looking in on others lives and behaviour and will always form likes and dislikes of the people there and vote accordingly.
I expect it to succeed on Channel 5 and don't think a year or so off would help,it needs to be kept fresh and made better thats all.
As for the word Ultimate,it doesn;t mean the end of something, how many singers release what is called an Ultimate album and then make many more for decades, not just for years, after such an album.
I think Big Brother still has years left in it yet but not after any lay offs, that would be a disaster for it.

You know nothing.
-It did go out with a bang. It returning isn't going to change the fact UBB's Finale was amazing.
-Erm, How? Richard Desmond is loaded and would put everything into this to make sure it's a success for the channel. It's not like C4 were they didn't care.
-Yeah and? Let them think that then, it's the fans that want it back so what we can't enjoy our favourite show because a bunch of dick heads moan about how they don't want to watch it, though they continue to watch every night...
-Desmond will lower the tone? What on earth do you mean? C5 are less PC than Channel 4 were, it would be entertaining.
And Iceman, Yeah it is too soon I agree as a fan I want it back but I know it'll probably do better if it came back in 2013.
But sorry, what the hell does the Olympics have to do with it? People did this in 2010 too with the World Cup, they aren't even on in the same time slot? It's silly to assume everything on TV must stop because of some stupid over rated sports event taking place in London.

Artista has been one of few reliable sources - I think he deserves more credit than that.

The Olympics are in London, it's gonna be one of the most watched events in UK TV history plus it's on all day round and appeals to a wider spectrum than just football...plus its on all day round

I agree about #4 the most, Desmond said he was interested in synergy between C5 and his mags...so basically, the highlights will edited to show people differently

The only thing that would definitely kill it are low ratings.

I want it's return just not yet, there hasn't been enough time of it being away to come back and be a success in the long term which in turn will only provide short term employment for the people wanting the jobs. If they do it in a few years when people have forgoteen about it and it becomes a success for the channel it will provide a more stable outlook for the jobs.
