View Full Version : Celebrity Big Brother 8 To Air This Summer? 'It's A Done Deal' - Channel 5

I actually thought this was already posted but then I remembered it's Monday and most people aren't online yet.
Celebrity Big Brother is to be revived and will air on Channel Five this summer.* The channel have spent months negotiating a deal with the show's owners Endemol after Channel 4 decided it not longer wanted to make programme. Now, Channel Five Boss Richard Desmond has run a story in his own newspaper - The Daily Star - about the shows iminant resurrection.
In the story, Desmond says “Talks started last year. They didn’t get anywhere initially, but both sides kept in touch and discussions are most definitely back on again. The deal hasn’t been signed yet but top people are talking to each other. Watch this space.”
Whilst the deal has not yet been signed, Desmond's article means it is almost a given that Britain's original reality tv show will be back. The plan is to broadcast a Celebrity version of the show this summer, followed by a normal version next year once auditions have taken place.

Davina McCall has ruled out presenting the show again, but says she would love former Big Brother's Little Brother host Emma Willis to take over.
The deal will be a huge win for Desmond, who has had his sights on Big Brother since becoming Channel Five's new owner. He believes he can make millions by cross promoting the series in his publications The Daily Star, The Express, Star Magazine and OK! and he would use Demand Five - Channel Five's You Tube channel - to broadcast content online.
On Channel Five's 'Wright Stuff' this morning, Matthew Wright told viewers it was 'a done deal'.

I posted it in one of the other threads (not the article, the fact that Matthew had mentioned it).

Who is Matthew? I mean is he linked to C5 in any way or what?
I know he has his own show on there, I think but I mean other than that?
Is there somewhere I can watch this episode online? Like would it be on C5's Youtube?

He's that slimeball presenter that hosts 'The Wright Stuff' - which has had very good reviews, but not my cup of tea. You can watch it on demand five, it's up there now. But I cba to watch an hour and 18 mins for it. If you watch it and find it, lemme know! Cheers :)

I wouldn't put my hopes up until C5 announces it themselves, even then it's C5 doing it so my expectations will be low.

Just watched it... Matthew says 'Big Brother is coming to channel 5' - but then says the desmond is about to sign on the dotted line.

"And the most important story, because screechy woman is having a heart attack in my ear, the most important story of the day, if not the week, and possibly my year, is about Big Brother. What can you tell us about Big Brother Margi?"
Margi: "I liked Big Brother to be honest with ya"
*audience take the piss*
Margi: "I know it's not fashionable to say that, but it was the first time.."
Matthew (interrupting her): "..well you'll be thrilled, because it's coming b.. on to channel 5"
*Crowd cheer*
Matthew: "Richard Desmond has, the boss has almost signed on the line I believe."
*Margi goes on about it needing rejigging and how it's a great opportunity to see real ordinary people 'on the telly', audience laugh*
Andrew Castle: "Ordinary people?"
Margi: "Alright, eccentric people"
Andrew Castle: "Did you watch Big Brother?"
Margi: "Not all of it" *goes on about loving the 'rise' of Jade Goody before Matthew moves them on*

I don't see ads on catch up sites (ad blocker plus). Anyway, I've transcribed what was said above.

She's not, necessarily. She wasn't aware that it was (possibly) being revived when someone asked her about it on twitter. Marcus has said he'd love to do return to his position as voiceover if the show does return.

A Five insider told us that 'though talks are still taking place, nothing has been decided yet'.

It's Endemol doing it for Channel 5, but they will have input yes.

Endemol also won't need to check with the channel 4 bigwigs before anything gets broadcast. They over-tightened their belts after the racerow, Channel 5 will have far looser (is that a word?) regulations and will show everything, warts and all.

Just imagine this summer sitting in your living room getting ready for Big Brother to launch. Roll Credits! Now tell me that doesnt excite you.

Nasty Nick is on Life At Studio Five tomorrow, they'll probably comment on it then (Brian D was on today but I think he's a regular presenter on there).

I'd prefer it launched next year, more time to overhaul the format, select the right cast, build up enough hype but I'd probably be pretty glad to see it yes.

They won't confirm or deny anything but they may speculate (LASF is Sky News made and the producers less likely to have heard something than Matthew).
