Looking at what some others have left for, Milner 20 odd million etc.. i don't think £35m for Carroll is a disgrace. I live in Edinburgh but get to Newcastle games when i can as Hibs are my Scottish team so i normally just go to a few Toon games a season but between that and watching over half of their games on TV/a stream i know just how good Carroll is and he's an absolute handful for defenders. He's like a young, skillful Crouch and believe me Liverpool will get there £35m worth out of him. He has already proved himself in the Prem so doesn't need time to adjust to the league like Suarez may have to do.
Not a bad buy at all, i'm just ****ing gutted we sold him but i'm more pissed off with Andy himself after he blabbered on about how he wants to stay at us for years to come like Shearer did and he goes and disrespects us like that... we gave him the number 9 shirt and he's went and threw it right back in our faces.

Supposedly he was forced out, that's what I've heard today anyway

I was thinking this too 'till he handed in a transfer request and he also said he was keen on moving to Liverpool both a couple of hours before he joined. I'm not gonna completely deny it though cause Mike Ashley is a fat, selfish bastard.

Here's an article on it: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/01022011/58/premier-league-paper-round-carroll-forced.html
He supposedly said this to his mate - "Gutted to be leaving my home club but I was practically told to go. Don't want to leave. That's why I signed a five-year deal."
Could be bull though

Hm, i don't think he would have went that easily if he really wanted to stay with us, although i did overhear someone after the Spurs game the other week saying something similar to this, and that Ashley wasn't letting him return from injury incase he picked up another sore one and that affected the transfer. I do think Ashley was desperate to sell him but i still think Carroll had the option to stay.

Deadline day. Desperate for a striker. Newcastle pretty much have no one to replace him. He is young. Already scored 11 goals in 18 games this season. Of course we're going to have to pay more for him than what he is actually worth.

maybe it would have been better if they just got Suarez and then spent the 35million on 4 or 5 other players to strengthen their squad which is very weak compared to past years
Locke.

There was no time to do that.
And can't do it at the end of the season either because the fair play rule comes into play, you can only spend what you make from the start of next season.

If Hodgson made that signing, Liverpool fans would have demanded he walked.
Still can't get my head around it.

No way, he has scored more goals than the likes of Torres, Rooney, Drogba.. he will be a great signing, and long term.

He's a carthorse, Locke. Worth no more than £10 million.
The biggest rip off of all time - and you know it.
Suarez on the other hand, good signing.

Paying 50 mill for Torres is looking like the worst decision ever. It'll just have upset Drogba, and he's stunk the team out in his 2 games so far. Couldn't score in a brothel.

He's only played two matches.....
Someone of his quality will come good in time. Best signing of the transfer window.

He was obviously overpriced, but it doesn't matter because we have the money anyway. He wasn't our first choice either, we tried for Llorente and Gomez first but had bids rejected. This season he has had the goalscoring form that teams in the top 4 want when he has been playing for a team only a few points away from relegation..
The deal was always that however much we sold Torres for, we'd be signing Carroll for £15 million less.

Utter madness really. Is Fernando Torres really only £15 million better than Andy ****ing Carrol?! :joker:
There's being overpriced by a few million but by £25 million!
Liverpool have a habit of getting shafted for players. Johnson, Babel and Aquilani in recent seasons.

I can't stand Dalglish but maybe Andy Carroll will come good? he's still injured and not played yet for Liverpool plus he has potential, however I still feel that deal signified what a joke the transfer market is here and how the prices for some of the overrated English players are frankly bizarre;).
Suarez is a bargain! he needs a bit more time to adjust to the way the game is played here because it's quicker than in Holland:D.

Locke made the good point that Torres doesn't really fit into Chelsea's system with 3 up top. Unless Chelsea change their whole system to suit 1 player, I can't see him being a value signing. The difference when Chelsea brought on Drogba against Fulham was substantial. I bet Ancelotti wishes he'd played Drogba from the start.
The 2 matches have pretty much ended Chelsea's slim hopes of the Premiership - good business Chelsea - NOT
At least they don't have to play him against Everton!

Drogba will leave at the end of the season, he is 32 now and probably looking on spending his last couple of good years at a club where he is going to be first choice. Funny thing is they won't even get that much for him now..

He should go back to Marseille:p.
I agree with Alc about Torres, some people writing him off at Chelsea already FGS he's not been there long and needs to get used to the Chelsea style of play because it doesn't come overnight.

You are probably all correct - I'm just being bitter and twisted about Torres as I had £200 on Chelsea to win at Fulham and felt he was a waste of space in the 1st half. I'm sure he will get out of the rut sooner or later.
