Hey guys!
Just thought I'd make a thread about the new TouchPad from HP. Here it is:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/02/hp-palm-touchpad-tablet.jpg
It has a 9.7 inch display, dual core 1.2GHz snapdragon CPU, Beats audio, gyroscope, accelerometer, front facing camera for video calling and HP webOS 3.0. The tablet is said to be 'screaming fast' by the team at HP.
And thats not all they've announced. Here's the Pre 3:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/02/hp-pre-3-top-rm-eng.jpg
It has a 1.4GHz processor, 3.6-inch 800 x 480 display, Qualcomm MSM 8x55 CPU running at 1.4GHz, 802.11a/b/g/n 5GHz, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, A-GPS, a 1230 mAh battery, HSPA+ and EVDO Rev A -- yep, it's a world phone -- and the same RAM as the Pre 2.
And last but not least the HP Veer:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/02/hp-veer-ofc-1.jpg
Headline specs include a 2.6-inch 320 x 400 display, 5 megapixel EDoF camera, HSPA+ support, 8GB of storage, an accelerometer, proximity and light sensors.
HP are the way forward.
Here's the full story for those products over at engadget:

Wtf does all of that mean :conf2:
...and when the iPad 2 arrives in a few weeks it'll be, "TouchPad what?"

The CPU part basically dictates how fast the phone can be - the bigger the number the better. A dual core CPU is when you have 2 working together to power a device.
Beats audio is, well you know Beats headphones? Thats basically that but the technology is used in the tablet.
A gyroscope tells the orientation of the device.
An accelerometer tells whether the device is tilted etc.
HP webOS is this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webos).
800 x 480 - thats the display's resolution. The higher the number, the clearer the screen.
Qualcomm MSM 8x55 CPU - this is a typer of CPU which powers the device.
A-GPS is a type of GPS.
1230 mAh battery - the number is the power of the battery, I'm not sure what mAH means.
EVDO Rev A, this is a type of phone technology. Like 3G or 2G.
RAM (Radom Access Memory) - the bigger this number is, the smother the device will run.
HSPA+ is a new kind of phone technology. Its basically 4G which brings faster phone network speeds. Its not available in the U.K yet though. :/
Proximity and light sensors - Proximity tells how far the phone is from a surface e.g your face. And light tells how bright a room is and adjusts the screen brightness for the room.
Have I cleared everything up now? :p

 But srsly, Apple have to do something seriously amazing to one up everyone else again. I'm not too sure if they can totally beat the competition. :/
Lol thanks Niall, I kind of understand it now, not the sort of thing that interest me though

The thing is, the ipad is so overrated and promoted and has sold so well so far this is gonna look like a rip off, regardless of if the technology is better.

Agreed, but even if they just bump specs up and add a camera it'll still be the tablet that's talked about.
There's been all these so-called iPad killers that have emerged since Apple made tablets popular, but they still sold 14million iPads in its first year. I doubt they'll lose much sleep. ;)

Thats true but if you actually look at the thing the way it runs is completely different. But I know what you mean, someone will see a picture of this and be like "Omg woooah is that the new iPad? :o". :bored:
But with a big, clever marketing campaign I'm sure HP can get the TouchPad out there and stop confusion between the two.

Yep I know that for sure. Apple brings out a new product and even if its not that good, everyone starts foaming at the mouth and goes crazy. But like I said, if HP market this thing properly and get it known, then it could be as much of a success as the iPad.
LOL I know but the iPad hasn't really had any serious competition until recently, almost every Android tablet was pathetic last year but thats a thing of the past since Google & Motorola announced the Xoom (http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Consumers/US-EN/XOOM/index.html) and now the TouchPad is out, the iPad has two serious competitors. We'll see in the coming months though whether they actually put a dent in iPad sales though. ;)

The manufacturers are at least partly to blame though.
How many tablets were there before the iPad? I can't even think of one. Then Apple finally confirm they're bringing it out, and suddenly their rivals are clamouring to release their own models.
HP isn't doing itself any favours by using the word 'Pad' in the product title either - at least Xoom is a unique brand.

Why anyone would want some massive ******ing hunk of bollocks like an iPad with them when they can easily get an iPod Touch is beyond me,
Oh wait, they buy them to show off because they're up their own arse.

Yeah thats all very true. But I think the reason HP aren't opting for a very unique name like Motorola & Google are is that people probably associate the word 'Pad' with tablet nowadays. I know that a big guess, but it might be true. :)
Either way I'm extremely excited to see a TouchPad for real. I might even buy one. It would work great with my Pre 2. :amazed:

If you don't want a tablet then buy Pre 3 or an HP Veer :nono:
