Banned vs user banned?

I keep seeing them both used but can't work out any difference. Im not gagging to know just always been a bit curious.

I think one is a straight ban and the other is a build up of infractions, I might be wrong though.

banned is either for someone permanently banned or for someone who was given a straight out ban (without an infraction). User banned means temporary.

Also as far as i know when you're banned you cant recieve PM's or wall posts? (could patrick clarify this LOL)

but Ive seen Banned used for just one day bans. Which is why I was confused.

When you're banned you basically loose all connection with the forum if I recall correctly.

Scott was banned literally years ago. Plus hed already been back a while before anyone realised who he was...proving that he had changed.
