Chris Moyles to try to break non-stop Radio 1 record

Chris Moyles will try to break the record for the longest show on Radio 1 in aid of Red Nose Day.

Along with Comedy Dave from the Chris Moyles show, the DJ will attempt to stay awake for more than 37 hours from 6.30am on Wednesday 16 March.

The present record was set by former Radio 1 DJ Simon Mayo in 1999 and was also in aid of Comic Relief.

The attempt will also be broadcast live on digital TV via the Red Button and online on the Radio 1 website.

In March 2009 Chris Moyles was one of a team of celebrities who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa to raise money for Comic relief.

Throughout the 37 hours, the pair will present each show in the schedule with the regular DJ as a guest.

That means Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave will be broadcasting with the likes of Fearne Cotton and Scott Mills as well as late night specialist DJs including Nick Grimshaw and Benji B.

Of course I'm worried about what the lack of sleep will do to me, but the pain will be worth it if we can raise a fortune for Comic Relief

Chris and Dave are aiming to break Simon Mayo's record at 7.30pm on Thursday 17 March.

Each hour that the pair are on air they will be allowed a five-minute break which they can either take each hour or save up to earn a longer sleep later on.

Chris Moyles said: "In 2009 I broke the record for being the longest serving Breakfast DJ on Radio 1.

"So I thought, why not go for broadcasting the longest radio show on Radio 1 too?

"Of course I'm worried about what the lack of sleep will do to me, but the pain will be worth it if we can raise a fortune for Comic Relief."

Comedy Dave added: "I'd love to say I'm really excited about it, but every time we talk about the project I feel tired and start yawning."

Chris Moyles is the longest-serving Radio 1 breakfast show host, taking over the slot in 2004 from Sara Cox.

Bloody Moyles fans. They've infiltrated TiBB Towers and they won't stop until the collective IQ of the world is lowered. I bet Moylsey promised them a meet and greet with all his cool celebrity mates.
