Matt Smith has described Doctor Who's upcoming sixth series as "harrowing" for the Time Lord and his companions.

Bang Showbiz quotes the 28-year-old actor as saying that the Tardis crew will be facing several very dangerous adventures when the sci-fi drama returns this spring.

"The Doctor and Amy (Karen Gillan) are going to be faced with some really harrowing and seismic choices about their relationship and who they are, and why they are important together," he said.

Smith also promised fans that the new series is to feature a terrifying new enemy who he predicts will rank among The Doctor's most menacing foes.

"I do think we've got one of the greatest monsters, especially during my tenure on the show, but I think in the history of it. It's a real cracker," the star remarked.

Earlier this week, Smith vowed that fans will be satisfied when Professor River Song's (Alex Kingston) true identity is revealed.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US in the spring.

Saturday 7th May- According to rumours.

THE RANI ARE BACK YES!

Glenn.
10-03-2011, 12:33 AM
I don't think it will start in May. The series is being split in two, so I think its probable that the mid-series finale will air around that time.
Think Doctor Who Magazine has said it begins at Easter. Which would follow suit to previous series starts.

Well, according to some other forums... the start date has been confirmed as Saturday 23rd April in the States. I presume this will be the same date it airs here in the UK.

Also, both parts of the two-part opener are supposedy going to air on the Saturday AND the Sunday of Easter Weekend. :D

OMG I hope so! Don't think I'm gonna be able to manage to wait a week for the second part. Apparantly the monsters in the opening two parter are down right terrifying.

Rumors have it, that its

The Silence
mentioned in the last series.

I am pretty sure that both will air on Easter Weekend too. It's the perfect opportunity, me thinks.

Oh, and a very, very reliable forum member (apparently works for the BBC, whose information has always been correct) on a Doctor Who forum has said to watch out for a brand-new trailer airing on... SORRY, CAN'T DO SPOILER TAGS :(...

Steven Moffat has claimed that the opening episode of the upcoming sixth series of Doctor Who is a "belter".

The showrunner revealed on Twitter that he had watched an almost finished version of the episode, which will see Matt Smith and Karen Gillan reprise their roles as the Doctor and Amy Pond.

"In Cardiff and just saw the (very nearly) complete ep 1 of Who," he wrote. "Could be biased but I think it's a belter.

My theory for the death-

Amy finds somethign out about River so shocking that she shoots her [reffering back to end of trailer] however this causes a time warp, as River has met David Tennant's Doctor, therefore thats how we see tennant's TARDIS.

So excited. Planned my series finale to come out the weekend before in preperation. Heard so many rumours and stuff. Gonna be an awsome weekend.

Nice theory. A massive spoiler about a "twist" in the opening two-parter has been leaked on Digital Spy...

This is a MASSIVE spoiler. Seriously...

There are two regenerations. One of them isn't the Doctor's.

Nope. Not in the season opener. Will never happen. River Song is a Time Lady I think, but not sure yet. I know who Amy is, read a wee bit of a leaked script. I'm saying no more.

Thought I would bump this, as it starts tomorrow.

Here are ten teasers about The Impossible Astronaut

1. The rumours are true - one of the lead characters really does die. It's not a trick. And it happens within the first ten minutes.

2. When we first see the Doctor, he's in a… compromising position.

3. For Amy and Rory, it's been a while since the events of A Christmas Carol. And for The Doctor? Possibly even longer.

4. The Doctor gets slapped, again.

5. "The legs, the nose and Mrs. Robinson."

6. Amy reveals a shocking secret, but is keeping another from The Doctor.

7. The Doctor drinks wine, and isn't a fan.

8. "River, make it blue again!"

9. One character makes a Star Trek reference. Several times.

10. "You will tell the Doctor what he **** ****, and what he **** ***** ****."

I actually think I've worked this out...

Didnt River say she killed the best man she ever knew? Surely that's the Doctor, right? What if the little girl in the spacesuit is River as a child, and she was the one who shot the Doctor.
Also, Amy said that she was pregnant, and the Doctor seemed shocked by this. He could be the father and River could turn out to be that baby; i.e. She is Amy and the Doctor's daughter? But then, why would she call him 'sweetie' and make these smutty jokes? I'm really confused, but I still think it was River (as a little girl) in the spacesuit. This is pure speculation. I'm just guessing.

I can breathe now...

Ep 2 - Day Of The Moon :D
Life The Universe and Combom have listed some stuff

01) There's an incredibly long pre-titles recap.
02) The Doctor needs rescuing from NASA.
03) RTD's gay agenda is back.
04) Rory loves grits. Who doesn't?
05) The Sonic Screwdriver is used as a weapon of sorts.
06) A whole twenty different kinds of alien tech?
07) Amy, Rory, and River Song are being hunted down by the FBI. But who's running the show?
08) Neil Armstrong's foot!
09) Two main characters are shot in different scenes in the same way.
10) The Doctor and River Song sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. . . OK, not a tree...
11) The big link to The Lodger isn't solved this time.
12) Regeneration? The youngest one yet?
13) Amy goes missing for about twenty minutes of screentime. Is it to a future episode I wonder?
14) Look out for the Doctor's unexplained beard.
15) "This world is ours. We have ruled it since the wheel and the fire."
16) Did the Doctor start Watergate?
17) A Cyber-what?
19) This is a revolution - and today the battle begins.
20) River Song goes for a dip in the TARDIS pool.

Absolutely Love DW Have done since 2005 :)

Glenn.
04-08-2011, 06:05 PM
Doctor Who star Matt Smith has expressed his belief that The Doctor is often inconsiderate of his companions' feelings.

Smith explained that The Doctor doesn't give enough thought to how his companions' lives are affected by travelling with him through space and time.

"He's such a nomad, and he does his thing.... He doesn't quite engage in the way that other people do. He's his own man," the actor told SFX.

Smith added: "When you think about it, he's actually quite selfish. Because he picks these people up - often hot women - and then cruises around, drops them off, and goes, 'See you later. Someone else's turn!'"

The star also revealed that he has several favourite Doctor Who episodes from his tenure so far, saying: "I love the [Weeping] Angels episodes, 'The Time Of Angels'. I love 'The Eleventh Hour', I love 'Day of the Moon', I love 'The Big Bang', I love 'Vincent And The Doctor'… It's so tricky. I love them for so many different reasons because I have so many memories associated with them."

Smith recently insisted that Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in 2013 must be "an event".

Doctor Who returns to BBC America in the US on August 27 and will air on the same day on BBC One in the UK..

The past two series have been the best yet, RTD's series were far too formulaic looking back. You could always guarantee that the Doctor would point his screwdriver at something and solve everything at the last second and the arcs were always reduced to key words that never gained meaning until the last two episodes (Bad Wolf, Torchwood, Saxon, Bees/Medusa Cascade/flashes of Rose). I liked RTD's version but it was a lot more flawed then Moffet's.

I really question the taste of people who honestly preferred RTD's Who in comparision though.

I agree.

I prefer the show how it is now. I mean OK its a tad complicated at times but that provokes discussion and theories and everything, and its not a bad thing to work your brain, instead of sitting in front of the TV like gormless idiots, drinking in moronic stories.
RTD's era was good. He revived the show and without him, it wouldn't be where it is today.

I do think Steven Moffat is the better writer, in terms of an actual thought out story.

Jarrod
01-10-2011, 11:10 AM
RTD did a good job.

Steven Moffat is better at a long-term storyline.

The Wedding Of River Song
It's the big one. How big? Well, it's the epic episode that brings the current series to a spectacular climax, with the Doctor aware that only his death can keep the universe safe. And so we return to Lake Silencio as the Time Lord prepares for a date with destiny...
Old friends like River, Amy and Rory return along with Churchill, Charles Dickens and Dorium Maldovar. But enemies from the Doctor's past also feature. There's Dalek action and the Silence and Kovarian are back with a vengeance!
Immediately after the episode, switch to BBC Three for Doctor Who Confidential. It features the brand new mini-adventure, Death is the Only Answer, and a must-see look at River Song's timeline.

Daniel R

Tom4784
02-10-2011, 01:56 AM
I thought it was a good episode although I think it would have been better if it was a two parter as I felt it was a bit rushed in the end and the Silence and Kovarian really didn't have much of a point in the end because of it. I'm guessing they'll find a way not revealing the Doctor's name but it'd be a lot more interesting and unexpected if they didn't.

I reckon we'll be seeing a lot more of River next series, maybe she'll even be a proper companion.

It's a case of making a very simple, run of the mill, predictable storyline more complicated than it needed to be by making Alex Kingston pop up in the wrong order.

I hope they go back to actually telling stories next series, enough of this Doctor's wife, baby, looming death. It's been done enough already. No more River/Doctor flirting.

No way did the River Song arc need to be dragged out so long. To think we were first introduced to her in 2008.
Enough is enough.

I thought how he got out of it was predictable but I didn't guess the question at all.

Overall it was a strong series although I kinda think it suffered being the middle child in a trilogy. It kind of felt like they focused on setting up the next series rather then focusing on the story at hand. It was a good episode though.

What was the question again? :conf:

I feel terrible asking that. I'm supposed to be a fan. :joker:

Was it Doctor Who? or something to do with looking into his eyes?

This is my main problem with Steven Moffat's era. Great writer but he seems to always be setting things up with no pay off.

We all love a good cliffhanger and suspense but there comes a time when the story needs wrapping up.

Liked the series finale, felt it could have been better but I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the Christmas special now, will be odd not to have it on every Saturday night. Are Amy and Rory returning for the next series?

I think the question was simply Doctor who?

It's to do with his name I think, it'll be interesting to see how they get out of revealing it although it'd be a lot more interesting if they did.

I don't think they should ever reveal his name. It's not 'Doctor Who' if you know what he's called.

They're apparently in it, but just not as full-time companions, which is a shame.

Yeah, Karen Gillan said she'd be back for "some episodes". Which sounds like Martha in series 4. Just popping in every now and then whilst a new full-time companion takes over.

But it's looking likely we'll have another year of specials, and then the full series spread in 2013 for the 50th anniversary.

I wish they didn't muck around with the series formats. What's wrong with airing 13 episodes weekly?

This. In my opinion, the mid-series break didn't work. I just wanted to watch the rest of the series, not wait 2 months for the next episode.

Apparently they aren't splitting it, I remember reading it somewhere. I think Amy & Rory will be in the next series a lot more then we think. They're kind of important to the whole Silence arc so I couldn't imagine them just popping in for an episode or two a la Martha. I think we'll be getting River as a full time companion next series as they need to start developing their relationship really.

Doctor Who stars Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will be leaving the show during the next series, it has been confirmed.

The actors will be leaving their roles as The Doctor's companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams midway through the show's seventh run in 2012 in what was described as a "heartbreaking end".

Showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed at a press screening that Matt Smith's Time Lord will be joined by "a new friend" following their departure.

"The final days of the Ponds are coming during the next series," he said. "Then The Doctor will meet a new friend."

Moffat added that he believes River Song (Alex Kingston) will make a return appearance, though it is unknown if the character will be involved in the couple's exit storyline.

It has been confirmed on the official Doctor Who Twitter profile that more details will be revealed tomorrow (December 16).

Smith stated: "The show will miss the Ponds, brilliantly played by Karen and Arthur, but the great thing about Doctor Who is its ability to change."

Gillan and Darvill both made their Doctor Who debut as Amy and Rory in the first episode of the show's fifth series in 2010.

Gillan told Digital Spy in August that she expected to be a part of the sci-fi's seventh run.

Addressing Amy and Rory's potential departure last month, the actress said: "Death would be an option. I don't want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye. Once she's gone, she's gone. I want people to remember the Amy Pond era as a good one."

Moffat revealed in November that Doctor Who's seventh series will air next Autumn.

I will miss both, I thought both were good companions but this was always inevitable really. The next companion has big boots to fill.

Yeah, I think Amy will get killed off. That's what Karen wants to leave the show via killed off, and they could bring her back since the doctor can travel through time
