i dont believe that ireland should have been split in two,but the way some irish people from the republic of ireland mention the past as to why they wouldnt want to join the uk need to get a grip as it wouldnt be like it was then,you would actually be treated better this time.

Well, it's probably to do with the fact that it wasn't all that long ago when it happened for a start and there is still fighting going on in Northern Ireland over it, also it has split our country permanently in two.

I'm a bit confused about whether he was talking about the split of Ireland or the ROI's independence actually, I dont think the ROI being independent is still really an issue, basically noone thinks that should change and I doubt most Irish actually hate Britain?

What's more, if they were asked, most English people would say that they wished for Ireland whatever the Irish people wished for themselves. Now there is a fragile peace, I think everyone wants the best for Ireland and for the peace to be permanent. I think that's a great post and I agree with a lot of it, but just referring back to other posts when someone says "you should be part of the UK" it's a stupid comment to make we like our independance....
