Because they are their own country. It would be like the UK being part of USA, I would hate that.

NI should not be part of the UK it should be part of Ireland and Ireland should be one place.
You don't get pissy when we're referred to as the 51st State?

No, I think it's quite apt really, we basically have the same culture as an American state these days

Because they are a proud and talented Nation with their own customs and ideals of society, why on earth would the Repulic of Ireland want to be tied to the UK,2 of the 3 that are have a growing number of their citizens who would love to be free of the Uk too, namely Wales and Scotland.

never heard anybody say Ireland should be part of the UK.
I think they get a pissed when they are referred to as though they are part of the UK. Like Canadians hate being mistaken for Americans. But thats a different thing.
Unless you mean Northern Ireland?

I think this was in response to Beasties comments in this thread : http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173464

In the EU thread
I personally think The Republic of Ireland should be part of the UK anyway. They need to change that law first and then scrap being part of the EU.

its cus we spent so long trying to get out of it so when someone says we should be in the UK it insults all the people that died to make us a republic

gosh, maybe it has something to do with the fact the UK already colonised it, destroyed its culture and then split it in two?

Yeah I reckon that could have a little bit to do with, plus the way they were treated when they were subject to British rule.
Or then again it could just be because they get all that wet weather from the Atlantic.

because the world would be a boring place if we all loved each other.
when people say they think that the roi should be part of the uk?
Well, imagine you had really awful neighbours.. Neighbours who demanded your house from you then gave ownership to fellow awful people and demanded you then pay them to live there. Neighbours who would demand all your food and let you and your family starve to death...
Would you want to join those neighbours and their neighbours in a wee get together?

but howcome england is the only one that are still really hated for there past crimes? its not like any of us that are here now did that all the way back then.
i dont believe that ireland should have been split in two,but the way some irish people from the republic of ireland mention the past as to why they wouldnt want to join the uk need to get a grip as it wouldnt be like it was then, you would actually be treated better this time.
although i believe britain should just be england, wales and scotland as we are on the same land.

Well, it's probably to do with the fact that it wasn't all that long ago when it happened for a start and there is still fighting going on in Northern Ireland over it, also it has split our country permanently in two.

but you're not getting what I'm saying, it's not that you're not forgiven but that's not to say we haven't forgotten, and someone saying that they think we should be part of the UK is a bit insensitive after the trouble we've had with the UK in the past, don't you think?

I'm a bit confused about whether he was talking about the split of Ireland or the ROI's independence actually, I dont think the ROI being independent is still really an issue, basically noone thinks that should change and I doubt most Irish actually hate Britain?

lol, me too:joker: and no of course we don't hate Britain or the English, I'm fully aware nobody in Britain now is responsible for what happened back then, like I said it's just when English people make comments like Beasts it is annoying but then she didn't seem to fully know our history either. You have to remember the history we learn in school is probably a whole lot different to what you learn in the UK.

no one is saying you should be hated though and the reason the past was brought up after Beasts comments was because her comments had a lot to do with with the past or atleast the reason for why her comment was a bit insensitive anyway.

no i believe that northern ireland should reunite with republic of ireland,i just dont get why britains past crimes always gets brought up but no other countries past crimes get as much focus, even though some of the other countries past crimes have been worse.

Most intelligent people in England bear no ill-will toward the Irish, and the people who were involved in dividing the country are many years dead. What's more, if they were asked, most English people would say that they wished for Ireland whatever the Irish people wished for themselves. No one was listening when the IRA was blowing up civilians, but the English have forgiven them for that. Now there is a fragile peace, I think everyone wants the best for Ireland and for the peace to be permanent. The fact is that some people in Northern Ireland want to remain British, which is a problem. Beats me why we don't all try to get on.

i do get that beasties comments were insensitive,i just dont get why some countries hate us for our past crimes? its like still hating japan for carrying on world war 2 after germany surrendered, its ridiculous as the people of both uk and japan now, were not around then (at least most of us anyway lol)
