Always nice to have winners. With this and the £250k win on Deal or No Deal earlier, Channel 4 has had a hammering today

Hopefully they'll give out another six-figure sum before the series is over

Kerry
13-05-2011, 09:26 PM
I'm SO glad Ash and James won. Nice blokes :)

Matt
14-05-2011, 12:04 AM
Appears they only won on a fluke - seems they made a mistake with one of the questions.

To recap, Ash and James' penultimate question was: "Which of these chefs had a series aired on TV in the UK first?". The options were Marco Pierre White, Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson.

They split their £200k equally between Jamie and Nigella. Jamie was revealed as the correct answer and they went through to question 8 with £100k - they said his first series was in 1999, and Marco's was in 2007.

However, according to this link (http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/17718), Marco had a series in the late 80s/early 90s, and so they should have left with nothing.

Costly mistake to make...

No chance will they have to come back. It's the show's mistake. They'd be slated if they took it back

Kerry
14-05-2011, 12:09 AM
I can remember ITV once ballsing up on Millionaire. Two answers could have been correct or something but the person won anyway

Matt
14-05-2011, 12:09 AM
And I guess if they lost because of that question, they might get another go?

They didn't lose - they should have, but they had money on the answer that the producers thought was correct, took it to question 8 and won it

GypsyGoth
14-05-2011, 12:12 AM
Yea but I mean if they or some other couple lost because of a wrong question, do you think they'd get another chance on the show?

Jords

I'm sure there's been many errors on quiz shows over the years, but MPD has had more than its fair share and could really do with a new research team.

Endemol surely won't be happy to pay out for mistakes like these... I wouldn't be surprised if someone was fired over this one

Yea but I mean if they or some other couple lost because of a wrong question, do you think they'd get another chance on the show?

That has happened before - see here (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/showbiz/television-news/2010/11/09/channel-4-gives-second-chance-to-million-pound-drop-couple-after-wrong-answer-blunder-86908-22704159/)

Are the producers thick? Do they actually research into the questions?

I hope the boys take the money and run. I hope they don't have to come back again. Stupid Channel 4's mistake. lol

No problem. But yeah, they returned with the money they should have gone through to the next question with and eventually won £25,000.

There was a similar controversy in the American version as well, and the affected couple have been invited to return on the next series

I don't think they do - according to the Wikipedia page:

"Any money won by contestants is withheld for up to six weeks pending the receipt of Criminal Records Bureau checks by Endemol."

Thats the thing though isn't it? Never mind them just getting it offstage (which will be intriguing to see in itself) but what about actually going home? I'd assume it's just transferred to an account but either way, your neighbours know what you have

Oh, so they don't get to even touch it for 6 weeks?!?! I'd be beside myself!

I know lottery winners get a 'fund' of about £5k to play with before their money is transferred
