It is understood that Big Brother will return to its traditional schedule in 2012 – running the celebrity show in January, before reappearing with the traditional group of wannabes in the summer months. That would mean an almost continuous run of Big Brother programmes – running night after night – on Channel 5 from August to January.

£200m? Is that more than the final contract C4 had with Endemol? I never thought it'd be that much, **** me :amazed:
DigitalSid
05-04-2011, 06:00 PM
The September series is 13 weeks meaning just a few weeks between BB12 and CBB9 (CBB8 airing immediately before BB12), massive overkill, hope CBB9 doesn't launch till the end of January if true.

No, well, yes, £20 million more, but it's for five years, so works out at 40 mill a series rather than the 60 C4 paid.

It's be 20,000,000 budget per series if it was divided equally. :)

It's probably divided around 60/40 (celebs cost a lot but I imagine hiring the George Lucas Stage and 300 odd staff for 3 months costs more).
Though I should point out, a fraction of Endemol's fee actually pays for the show, 5 million of the 60 million per year they got from C4 was actually used on the (summer) series.
So the budget shouldn't be affected at all by the move.

It shouldn't be affected at all, only 5 million of that 60 million is actually spent on the show (the summer series anyway). Though C5 and Desmond's input will inevitably put pressure on them to make it worse.

I'm not sure I want it back, I suppose C5 could be a good home for the series as it's ratings are pitiful anyway and so a million or so views nightly would be welcomed. I do think two series on the bounce is a bit too much, They should have done a CBB in August, another in January and then have normal BB back in it's normal slot.

If you were about to tie a rope around your neck but heard Big Brother coming on and that saved you, then cool.
So are you saying if you were about to hang yourself this time, and heard Big Brother you'd be thinking 'Screw it, this would be so much better on Channel 4' *Jumps*
I mean honestly, it doesn't matter what channel it's on, just aslong as they don't mess with it too much.
And as Justin Bieber wont stop saying, Never say Never.
It could come back to C4 in decades from now if it flops on C5 :joker: Although personally, Channel 4 ruined Big Brother - Just look at the last few weeks of BB11.

Well to be honest I agree to an extent if we did chose we'd probably put in all the nice folks and that'd be boring we need to hate the bitchy housemates that go in. I remember detesting Alexandra, Grace, Spiral, Gorman, Markus etc. but it's all part of the experience and the pay off is sweet. :D

This.
With Channel 4, they owned Box, E4, 4 Music and other Channels that they advertised BB11 on last year.
Fair play, Channel 5 as far as I know has no other channels that they have power over.
The only forum of advertising they'll use outside of their channel would be front page on the Daily Star everyday, and maybe a billboard.
I actually do have faith in Channel 5 to no doubt make it a tawdry, disgusting, trash show. Bring it on. What I'm worried about is the presentation. While a bigger and better advertising campaign is needed the C4 presentation of the show was spot on apart from the final year. Keep all the weird techy soundbites and graphics.
The other thing is would anyone even watch it. I see ratings being just as bad or worse than they were on Channel 4. From a common sense standpoint the amount of overkill they plan on doing is sheer madness. However it will be very interesting to see a main series run through winter.
Nice little lead in to Christmas. And straight into the preying jaws on The X-Factor.
Chuck it on at eleven and make it absoloute filth.
Now to get Channel 5 in Ireland :(.

bringing it back so soon will not pull in new converts to the show. Which means only BB diehards will make the effort to start watching ch5. All of which means low ratings...lower than ch4s BB ratings for sure. But maybe slightly better than what ch5 normally gets. Which is, of course, why theyve bought it.
interesting to see what they do with it. But I don't have high hopes.

Great post, hit the nail on the head about C4's Graphics and stuff.
C5's Graphics could be very cheap and bland.
Tits, lager and casual racism, Keith.
Anyway, got Channel 5 on the Sky. Guide for Irish users on how to do it here :

Charlie Sheen WON'T be on the show.
He's just another one of those Celebrities down with the kid from Home Alone, Boy George, Katie Price and MC Hammer that everyone thinks will be on CBB but they never are!
The public seem more gullible this time and seem to believe for some reason though, every BB article so far has had a topless picture of Charlie Sheen in it.

bringing it back so soon will not pull in new converts to the show.
Im past caring about the ratings now. They only seemed a problem when everyone was worrying about it getting axed and wanted it to improve so C4 would keep the show. Im just happy to have it back and don't give a **** if no one else wants to watch it anymore. Atleast us true fans of the show can watch and enjoy it for a few more years again.

lol casual racism.
And yeah, i suppose you could put the hardcore BB view across. One problem with that, it could be off the TV screens after a year and never seen again. So ratings ARE important.

I only bothered about ratings for that very reason. I haven't discussed BB in real life for quite a bit (apart from the last Celebrity Big Brother) so how many people are watching makes no difference when they're locked into a 5 year contract. And by the end of the 5 years I'll probably be bored of BB anyway so won't care if its axed or not

Exactly. I don't get why people are bothered about it becoming trashy. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but it isn't exactly high brow TV thats the envy of BBC4.

Don't be so sure Patrick, Five go all out to promote their US acquisitions.

Understand your logic but think you could be mistaken. I think none diehards will tune in out of curiosity. If CH5 do a good job in selecting housemates then curiosity viewere will stay on board. As well as the diehards......
I was original drawn into BB "out of curiosity". When BB1 was aired I watched just brief snippets and thought to myself what a load of rubbish....Then followed all the after math publicity and I thought to myself "What have I missed"!!!!
I decided to give the next series (BB2) a chance to see what all the fuss was about out of curiosity.....From episode one of BB2 I was hooked.......Never missed a series since although have like many had some moaning to do about this that or the other but still keep watching.....Still kept on recording. Have complete collection of all series from 3 to the last CH4 series. BB2 I have only a part collection much to my regret......
BB is something you love or hate if you love it then it becomes like an addiction no matter how bad it may seem at times......
I wish CH5 luck regardless of the type of BB it may be.......Sexy, fights, Who cares as long as we see human nature in the raw.......As long as we see reality emerging from an unreal environment. As long as CH5 does not run scared of those idiots at Ofcom......and the twats that will inevitably write and moan to those censorship idiots at Ofcom....

yes but its been on for 10 years. Now its not even having a break it seems. So everybody knows whether theyre interested in BB by now. Those who have tired of it will probably stay tired of it. It would certainly take a big effort for them to start watching it on ch5 regularly.
But I guess it depends what they do with it and how much they change it. Personally Id like it to adopt the US style where HMs can openly plot and plan against each other in a cutthroat way. Its more of a honest gameshow where they all want to win. But having a public vote(they dont have in US BB) would make it difficult to play the game that way.

As you imply it depends on personal tastes and what they do with it. Maybe a new batch of viewers gained while old viewers lost. Personally anything resembling US style would probably stop me watching it for good.....Add Vennesa Feltz to the mix and that would be the last straw for me.....

Well, when BB returns it will have been off air for 11 months compared to the usual 4 or 5 but that didn't do much to help BB9's ratings (which was effectively the first series in a similar amount of time with no one watching BBCH on E4).

Feels a lot longer since UBB.
The next 4 months should fly by, with everything being agreed so late and 2 series being planned at once, there should be something in The Star or Express to discuss weekly.

I'm really excited about BB coming back, but the only problem is, I detached myself from the show last year. I got myself all ready for the last series, knowing it wasn't coming back - well, at least it wasn't back then and now it's back.
I'm really happy though and I will most definitely be watching. 24/7 Streaming will be back too according to the paper this morning, so that's all good.
I did hear BBLB would be back, how would it work though? Would it all just be done on Channel 5?
I'm assuming there will be some sort of streaming from the house on the telly throughout the day, then there will be BBLB, the evictions on a Friday etc... It's going to be a complete BB-Fest if everything is done on Channel 5 and no spin off channels.

In all seriousness now that this is a Discussion thread so based on what you've heard what's your thoughts on a likely CBB line up?

Isn't this a pointless thread?
Why can't we just discuss the show in our own threads? It's a forum.
So is every little thing meant to be posted in here? Will get annoying after.. a minute.
*waits for him to leave again*
Who are you?
Really nervous, up on a school trip from 5th-11th august, hope i don't miss it -_-

I don't get these people saying 'but I already finished my Endemol life seperation treatment with the therapist!'.
It's a TV show. Watch it. Or don't watch it.
This.
People on Facebook and stuff are like, 'Well I said my goodbyes, let's leave it there.'
Er, so because you cried and said Bye it shouldn't be brought back?
Ridiculous.

You can still make threads, but when there was 10 all around the same thing it's easier to put them all together. :bored:
Now stop your whining and be excited that BB is returning.

I think the Launch night should be Monday 1st and evictions on a Sunday. People will have less nights out on a Sunday because of work the next day so if X Factor was finishing around 9 or 10 on Sunday we could tune in right afterwards and avoid a ratings row.

When are they holding auditions?

When are they holding auditions?
They are going to have to start real soon. There isn't much time left to do all the stages of the audition process and fit a summer show in.
Benjamin

Yeah I was thinking that. I wonder if they will run them the same way C4 did.
maybe that's why they've announced it so early then, so they can get the auditions underway!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2011/apr/06/big-brother-celebrity-special-channel-5
The announcement of a celebrity edition this summer followed by a wannabe-celebrity run later in the year suggests that the revival will retain the broad structures established by Channel 4. The new landlord has also indicated that the hysterical residence will continue to be situated in Elstree, Hertfordshire, which may be a blow to hopes for property prices in the area. But, beyond a statement from the network's director of programming, Jeff Ford, about bringing "energy, optimism and vibrancy" to the show, there are no clues yet to possible changes of content.
Certainly, the factors that led the original British broadcaster to cancel the commission – a tiring franchise that was becoming increasingly sexualised and verbally violent – seem unlikely to bother Desmond, whose media portfolio includes the adult entertainment channels Television X and Red Hot TV.
Critics who felt that the first British version of the format had already lowered broadcasting standards, with scenes of racial bullying and sexual congress with a bottle, will fear that such moments may come to seem highbrow peaks in comparison with Desmond's version.

God are they still going on about Kinga and the bottle in BB6...... how random. Is that all the can think about some random drunken moment. Is that what the press think BB has become. That was over 5 years ago.

The standards of BB was lowered when it was dumbed down for children viewing and voting and all those silly housemates that behave like silly kidds in a school playground.
The Kinga issue although distastful was at least at an adult level........With shows like BB all moral attitudes need to have a broad base line......Those that don't like the heat should stay out of the kitchen.
To much judgment as to if some female housemates are sluts or slags or not with little judgment on male behavour of a similar nature.
What is a slut. A prostitute. A stripper. A porn actress.......They are called sluts and yet one night stand merchants who shag at the drop of a hat a complete stranger probably regard themselves as better than prostitutes. Of course from a moral point of view they are not
At least a prostitute puts a value on there action while one night standers would lower themselves for the price of a packet of crisps

Lol.
Anyway yeah I agree. BB dumbed down for a kiddies audience. From bb7 infact.
If you want to act like a little kid then go and audition to be a kids tv presenter.
However people on this forum complain when BB is on at 10pm instead of 9pm.
Personally BB should be on at 10pm. Then it is offically an adult viewing show.

I agree it should be after 10pm. They should also change the BB eye to that of a V sign written accross the words OFCOM.
When technically possible they should also put it under a "PIN" control to keep as many silly kids from watching as possible..........

That was the series first lowered the standards of BB to the moronic level ..... :eek:was watching a young girl drink herself unconscious on cheap cider at 10am just after getting out of bed on bb1 seen as a paticuarly high standard :conf: (nicola and caroline)
big brother has been like that from day 1 c4 tried to change it and came under so much criticism they said screw it and got rid!
there wasnt any lowering of standards as it progressed infact it was only when they tried to cut out what was deemed unacceptable and had there hand somewhat forced to improve standards by ofcom that the real criticism of c4 started.
being forced into an impossible situation is what forced c4 to ditch it.

Spot on, and the non fans thought bb became rubbish when in fact c4 just slowly killed it, cutting 24/7 live feed, even when the feed was on they would divert to another room/conversation/stock footage during anything deemed slightly controversial! Don't know if a lot of peeps know this but a lot of the housemates including celebs were given sleeping tabs early!
