View Full Version : Big Brother vs X Factor

So for the first time Big Brother reincarnate and X Factor will be going head to head for attention in the autumn.
Is there going to be enough room for both shows to thrive or will they end up cannibalising each other's audience?
Media coverage will be split down the middle with the Daily Star and Ok! giving saturation coverage to BB and the Sun, who have always had a cosy relationship with Cowell focusing on X Factor. In the nature of tabloid wars, I would expect the Sun to ignore BB as much as possible and the usual string of negative 'X Factor fix' headlines in the Star.
With the US X Factor being thrown into the mix as well (especially if Cheryl gets the judging gig) can we really cope with all three shows or will we reach reality overload and our heads explode?
You decide!

Well Big Brother is on every night, not just two a week.
It depends how controversial BB is this year and how initially good it is.

I forgot they clashed on a weekend , I'd rather watch BB anyway.

I think I prefer BB but would watch TXF over it, cus it's only on once a week.

I love both shows, but TXF is only has two shows a week, & i dont think it would clash with BB to be honest.

I have this weird obession where I can't stand watching live shows after they've aired, it feels weird, and so any show that's live I'd watch first before pre-recorded shows. In which case I'd watch X Factor, then Big Brother after. If both were live though, I'd probably choose Big Brother...but I don't know.

After the blatant fixings of last year i wont be watching XF this year, BB all the way, however i think XF will win in the ratings, even with all the fixing everyone seems to go rushing back rather than switching off

This.
But this could be X Factor's 'Big Brother 8'.
Where it all goes tits up and fails.
Simon is taking too much on, The X Factor got too big for it's boots and it's going to be delightful if this series fails.
Imagine if Big Brother did win in this 'Battle'?
Would be amazing.

If X Factor starts to fail mid season and people start watching BB ima go up to my friends and say "See I told ya so. This BB is gonna be a smash hit hehe. ;)".

big brother will do fine on channel 5 because the x factor destroyed themselves this year with all the blatent fixing, the x factor usa will be a big flop as they have got there darling american idol.
the only thing that will do big brother is the fact that its on channel 5,which gets less viewers than even channel 4.

Ummm.. probably the most stupid thing I've ever read on the site. X Factor will beat BB in the ratings for sure, therefore C5 should put the highlight shows (as they are less important than the Eviction) on Saturday and Sunday when The X Factor is on. But C5 should actually make BB later on those days to save the ratings as much as they can. Once it's back to the normal schedule it will be better, just wish it wasn't like it on the first series as it's probably the most important for BB's future...

For me there is no choice....Even the very worst BB is a million times better than that complete load of untallented trashy singers that appear on the X factor..........The X factor is the biggest load of TV garbage ever devised......Along with Coronations St if the two were never to appear again TV would be reborn........

i love both shows but to be honest i always record x factor anyway, i get really annoyed by parts where the judges walk out with that over the top music, plus the lil clips where the contestants talk before they sing!

If they clashed I would watch one and record the other for that time but BB ratings will be over a whole week,so it will be well able to stand a drop in ratings for the time X Factor is on anyway.

Well that's just ridiculous. :D I think last years X Factor went up to something crazy like 20m viewers at one point with an average of 11m to 16m per show - Big Brother averaged 2.6m. Airing Big Brother at the same time as The X Factor is the worst possible thing they could do, the ratings could easily drop to below 1m.
While us TiBBers here might prefer Big Brother over The X Factor, the majority of Britain is different and prefers the XF. As crazy as it might sound to us, it's true! They need to avoid the X Factor as much as possible if they want to pull in some decent viewing figures.

If Big Brother is on the same time as X Factor (particularly the live shows) it will almost definitely drop below a million viewers.

^This. I see Big Brother doing ok in the ratings during the week because it's just something for people to watch when they're bored and there's nothing else on tv, but during the weekends with the X Factor the ratings will bomb, no way can it compete against those.

I think it ends around the 12th of November.
The past few series' of IAC have started around the 14th of November, so Big Brother should be finishing just as IAC is starting.

I think everyone is forgetting Simon and Cheryl aren't at X Factor anymore.
Look at how badly BGT did this year.
Talent shows are ******ing out this decade now.
Honestly, most people are fed up with XF - just look at last year's.
You can tell it's going to fail before it starts, Big Brother will take back it's crown as the king of Reality TV.

And it will be fine against the football on thursdays because they are only Europa League games... And are the Europa games on C5 again this year becaue if they are they won't even be up against Big Brother :suspect:

About a quater of a million. Not that it factors into Big Brother like this still-to-be-banned nitwit thinks but it's still Challenges highest rated show.
Which is rather confusing given how awful it is.
