In fairness: given the booze culture of the UK's younger generation: it says a lot that a great many think the only way to good entertaiment is getting pissed out of their heads, acting like assholes and the inevitable fighting and aggression that then takes place.
Personally - it's about time they had a booze free house - if people can't come alive and have good fun without getting tanked , it's a pretty sad day.
If I want to watch that...... I can go to any town centre any night of the week and watch it for real, without the benefit of editing.
I couldn't give a toss about the morality behind getting the housemates pissed. I'm not in there. Watching a drunk house is a hell of a lot more entertaining from a TV perspective than watching a sober one. Booze has fuelled most of BB's biggest nights.

Oh yes..... watching people fighting, spitting, booze fuelled anger is really entertaining isn't it.....
There are a shed load of other real life documentaries if you want to watch that stuff.
As I said: it says a lot that this is seen as 'entertainment'. You don't have to wait for Big Brother come around to see that...... you no doubt will have it in your local town every weekend.

So you didnt enjoy fight night? Or Brian Belo and Charleys raging argument?, Jade and Adelle over verruca gate?
Watching people fighting and making tits out of themselves is very entertaining.
Why wrap them in cotton wool if this is supposed to be real life then they should be allowed to have booze just as they would outside the house.

I can't remember if they had a bit to drink before or not LOL

No i didn't enjoy watching people fighting, being aggressive and being violent. I found it pretty sick, disturbing and completely uncomfortable. As a fan of the show: it plunged it to new depths. and i have to say: it raises more questions as to how 'some' find that entertaining.

I'm entitled to voice my opinion. Tough if you don't agree. BB4 had personalities that were boring.
There are plenty of good personalities out there who don't need to be pissed out of their faces to be entertaining.

Can make a whole series entertaining and memorable without having drinking nights.
Such a commment proves the opposite. You are a smart chap, but wanting people to be drunk....that's low.
Drinking is a routine part of life for most people - especially those that frequent these types of shows. There is no great cosmological mystery or hidden connection behind the fact that watching drunk people do dumb stuff makes for entertaining TV in a lot of peoples eyes. Drinking is a relatively normal activity. Why is it low to take entertainment from watching strangers on the telly drink? Wouldn't that make it a despicable act of depravity to then want to go out with my friends myself and drink? No? Why? Because it's normal?
It's vaudeville, sure, but that's Big Brother for you. If you are going to take this rat arse serious a view of it then having to rely on strangers interact with each other in a house in the first place could be said to be a bit sad. Sober or not. I'm sure you are willing to argue that point though.

I never said you couldn't all I was doing was replying with my own. It's clear from the replies you're alone here with your opinion.
Some of the best and most memorable BB moments have happened because of alcohol. Taking it away all together would be a boring mess. We can still have good personalities AND alcohol to provide entertainment.
If you don't like it BB obviously isn't the right show for you.

Probably not, it's C5, they care more about ratings than anything else, the more controversial the housemates are, whether thats down to booze or not, the higher the ratings, so they'll probably ply them with booze everynight

I bet the housemates do what they begun doing in later seasons;
They'll save up on the booze and keep it all in the fridge until one night and then just get completely and utterly smashed.
And it wouldn't be Big Brother without the inevitable hiding of the almighty one can of cider under a bed.

You make a very strong point for more alcohol being allowed, good examples of some of the most popular conflicts.
The one I have to support totally that you make is that they should be allowed to have alcohol as they would outside the house,if people didn't like the way they were under the influence of alcohol they can always try to vote them out.

You have to think of the situation if you live with 11 others the agression builds and tension starts then the only way to escape it is the psychological need to drink what leads to the way out for many people. In the house you are never alone and seperated from society and your family constantly paranoid about what is going on so drinking is inevitable and finally we get to see the tension release and who is fake or not. It is all the way the public interfene. :D

I think alcohol plays an important part in BB, before they got scared to be controversial they used to always plow the HMs with drink and it was always more entertaining for it.

I don't think the occasional booze party should be a problem. Its not like theyre ever permanently drunk. Its just for a few hours here and there. They still have to mostly entertain when sober. Well, those that can.

I hope they're allowed more alcohol but BB will definetly be keeping a strict eye on the distribution because they certainly would not want a repeat of BB5 and some people can get very volatile, aggressive or emotional when they have had one few too many:).

If Desmond wants high ratings, he will give them booze on tap and make sure they get plastered every night. Wouldnt be surprised if they installed a bar available 24/7. With no live feed they can obviously afford it.

I agree with both sides of this debate, I'm doing a Rachel Rice and I'm sitting on the fence.
It is terrible that we only find HMs properly entertaining when they're pissed but at the end of the day, it's Big Brother. It's been a TV show before a social experiment for years now, it's a trashy TV show, not some snotty documentary. Big Brother needs to stay entertaining and to the disappointment of some, alcohol usually results in entertainment.
Like somebody said above, being pissed doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to become aggressive and start spitting and acting like a plonker, I've certainly never been like that when pissed. Most people I know are happy drunks, we tend to have more fun and are happier and high-spirited as a result so I don't see what the problem is really?

I'm sure Five is more known for its madness, so I think they should have more booze that they had on C4 for the last few years. I want another BB3 on our hands. I mean Kate was drunk 70% of the time and was drunk during her win and her interview, it was better.
"Are you ready to meet the crowd, Kate?"
