What do you think? And if you think we do, why do we have one? Also do other animals have them, like gorillas or what about even insects?

Not sure what exactly a soul is. If its the spirit or essence of a person then I guess every living creature has one.
Ive always thought of it as a conscience or empathy. But it seems to have no exact definition so thats just my interpretation.

I think a persons soul is probably actually just their personality

A soul is simply the ability to be aware of your own existance. It probably dies with the body......But in this strange world and existance and unfathonable forces !!!!! Who knows for sure......

I do think people have souls. I'm not really sure what to define a soul as though. I guess a soul is the gift of being sentient.

Someone suggested to have a soul is to have a conscience.

The rumoured 'soul' is not true I believe because most things happen due to your environment. It's basically the nature vs nurture argument.

I think the 'soul' being our 'personality' is a good idea, never thought of that
Yeah I agree with all that. The soul exists as metaphorical, poetic language on our part. Entirely interchangable with other words like 'emotional mindset', 'pesonality' etc.
What I don't believe is that it's some furry little creature inside us that keeps on living when we kick the bucket. Humans ought to give themselves more credit. The brain has everything you need all on it's own. It can love, laugh etc. You don't need any wishy washy spiritual attatchments.

Well said. Agreed.

I don't think that your soul is your personality. That just sounds too simple. When its said that a person has no soul it doesn't just mean they don't have a personality. Soul music isn't about personality. Its about a deeper truth.
Personalities can be faked. I think your soul is more like the real spirit that's formed in embryonic stage. Your deeper self maybe. Before you became corrupted and contrived. That just seems more appropriate to me when you think about how the word is used. Its something thats pure and innocent. Almost like your default factory setting before you became used and abused by living life.
again, this is just my interpretation after thinking about it more.

I would always have seen the soul as a combination of your faith and your purity - or lack thereof. Whether it can exist outside of you or independent of you - well, if you're a kind person, you're kindness can exist indepedent of or without you. So I think, in a manner of speaking, a person's soul can linger after their death.

Personally, I think the 'soul' is a figment of the imagination that keeps up moral.
Then again, I don't believe in life after death, religion or anything supernatural/spirtual like that. I think with life, it's what you see is what you get, so to speak. I think that the conscience, the soul and, to some extent, religion have all been thought up by humans as a coping mechanism and to give them some direction.
Brilliant thing, the brain.
