Mentored by Cheryl Cole, Joe fast became a viewers' favourite before going on to win in December 2009.

Now the performing arts student has been told his record deal with the label, a division of Sony BMG, is not being renewed.

Ha, not surprised at all.

Not surprised, but I think its wrong since hes won the show and they drop him immediately after a flopping debut, contract should be extended to 2 years, if the debut flops they get another shot to make it with a follow-up album.

Id be seriously pissed off after all that effort, but it was obv it would happen.

This does not surprise me. I always said he was too similar to Leon Jackson and look what happened to him

Not surprised and it didnt help him that Olly had a very successful year.

Shows the winner doesn't always come off best in X Factor. It's sad for Joe, he has a really great voice but he needed to be groomed far better than he was.

It's maybe time to get away from releasing a single chosen by Simon etc, then doing a debut album made up of mainly the songs they sang on X Factor,
Then long pauses before releasing a follow up single too.plus the album comes a fair time after winning as well.

Too many constraints, I hope Joe does well still but really if they push to have winners the X Factor needs to do a lot more with the acts that win and not assume all will be well instantly.

Far better not to have a top hit right off but build up to real success rather than be constantly compared and have expectations to continue with the initial success gained form that winners single.

Cheryl has failed Joe bigtime and now he looks a failure when really he has likely only done what he was told to and is paying the price for others old hat ideas and their failures.

Olly had more personality and a more interesting sound, the way in which Joe came out (denying it before coming out), bland singles, invisibilty (where was the promotion?) and Beiber basically becoming a phenomenon all helped to crush his career.

Oh, and possibly biggest of all the RATM campaign. Made him look like a flop by not getting the Xmas no. 1 that year.

he's not like Leon Jackson at all. He's upbeat, cheery and obviously loves being on stage and performing. Leon always looked like he was about to piss his pants.

which is why Ive always thought Joe would be more suited to west end musicals. I think he could do much better there than in the fickle world of the charts. Ive never thought he was hugely ambitious for fame and just wants to get up and sing.

and, yeah, him being dropped is no surprise. Although it doesn't make XF or Simon Cowell look very honourable or supportive of its winners. Very cold and ruthless considering they brought in huge money from voters right up to the very end. More than the others. They should be allowed at least 2 albums before being dumped.

and Joe is a really nice guy so I wish him luck.

This. Poor Joe. Simon and Chezza are more concerned about arse licking each other than concentrating on the "winning" act.

I am sure Joe will pull through! :)

Lucie Jones is in the West End. I really hope she eventually makes an album though!

No

Joe was the right winner. But a TV show and the real world of selling merchandise are 2 very different worlds. Many voters will not buy your music and many non voters may well buy your music.

Just proves Olly should have won.

Maybe, but then Olly has done and is doing well because by not being limited as to what he himself could dictate to do with his career he has not got the restraints that Simon and co put on the person/s who win X Factor.
Olly may have gone down the same route had he won and then with Joe able to do his own thing the roles may have reversed.

The fault lies in a big part with the contractual demands and constraints placed on the winner by Simon and co.

the media are always much easier on the losers. They want the winner to fail. Being the underdog is always cooler. Ollies music may have turned out very different if he'd won.

So, of the seven X Factor winners, there is just Leona, Alexandra, Matt and Shayne left.

Shayne's last album was hardly steller. Is he next?

I was so angry when Joe won.

This made me so happy when I heard this. Although to be honest it took its time.

Olly and Stacey were 1000000x better. He annoyed me and his voice wasn't that good in my opinion. Fingers crossed Matt Cardle gets dropped too.

I thought of him as soon as I saw this because he was the only person I knew who liked him, well him and my nan.

Him being dropped was going to happen, he will probably go into the west end and stay there for ever more.

He will be next, there's no doubt about it. His album was a poor seller, got to 15 in the charts and fell off the next week.

Those saying olly should have won...he would likely have had the same fate. He is unlikely to have been able to bring out the kind of music that he wanted or anything.

Plus, Olly was ****e on TXF. Hes good now, but he was bad on the program :p

Let's be honest...the guy was truly average - in every way. he never was going to make it big.

cub

He was easily the best singer in the competition of his year. Let's be fair.
Olly, since the show, has made the more interesting records though.

Looking at just the Winners though, of the 7 that have won 5 were male singers,2 were female singers,
The 2 female winners have had really good success and are established now,but the male acts that won have in truth struggled.

Steve Brookstein,Leon Jackson, fell very quickly from the limelight.

Joe has struggled massively since the first single and his album, although making 3 in the charts disappeared quickly. I do feel sorry for Joe because he is a good guy.
Shayne Ward never got the heady success of his first 2 singles either although he is still 'just' around.

Matt,we have to wait and see what happens next.

It would seem from that, either the wrong winner is chosen each year,or, more effort from Simon and co was put in to the Female singers careers.
Likely it's both but on that record,I don't think if I was in it, I would actually want to win it unless I had some freedom and say over what I recorded and released and more to the point when things were released too.

I think those that won mostly deserved to win their year. The only exception would be Leon Jackson.

However there is a HUGE gap between winning a TV talent show and being current enough to have a lasting career. Leona and Alexandra won and reflect what's in the charts. Leona is rumoured to having an image and sound revamp for her next album.

Shayne Ward dropped now

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/s103/the-x-factor/news/a315314/shayne-ward-dropped-by-simon-cowell-label.html

This just leaves Leona and Alexandra, and Matt of course (who must be worried as the only X Factor male winner on SyCo's books).

Joe definitely deserved to win the show, he consistently came out and gave a flawless vocal performance - he was very drab and it was very clear from the outset that he was going to flop as a pop star because he was never portrayed as one; just as a very good singer. He'll definitely carve himself out a career performing in musicals, I think that's the next logical step for him and there's absolutely no shame in it, it's just a pity for him that he had to go through all that disappointment. At least now that he's been dropped he can do what he wants, I hope he's taking it as a blessing in disguise rather than another nail in the coffin. Olly is by far the superior pop star but he was terrible on the live shows, at least he's doing well now though. Matt Cardle be warned, a good voice is not always enough.

that is not selling.

Its a Record Deal Not Charity.

Utter Fact.

I think they are too quick to drop singers now though, looking back decades ago in the hit singles books etc, really big stars like Dusty Springfield etc. got top 10 hits then records that only got to the lower end of the top 40 and some flopped altogether but her label never dropped her,it was the same it seems for many artistes then.

Everything has to be instant and continuous now. However real success has to be won with perseverance and patience,I still say the X Factor winner is hampered by the one single coming out instantly, then the follow up not released for ages after that, the album appears only when the X Factor series begins again. That's not the way to capitalise on success its the way to stifle it.
