View Full Version : Favourite DJ act
I'm not exactly an expert on the subject but I do appreciate a lot of DJs and I'm sure I'm not the only one, so thought I'd run one of those music competitions based around DJs, the unsung heroes (literally) of the music world. Or the rapists of all that is good about music, depends where you stand on the issue really. I've included 64 well known DJ acts, I'll provide a sample song with each DJ act, though you'll likely be familiar with most of them on the list. It'll take the format of groups in the earlier rounds, then head to heads later on probably, depends how well this goes. Here's the line-up, I'll post the first round shortly!

You wouldn't really class many of those as DJing acts. Folks like Chemical Brothers and Infected Mushroom are well respected production and performance outfits that just happen to do a bit of non regarded DJing on the side every now and then.
I'm confuzzled. Are we just judging it based on the DJing or is 'DJing' just the name of a competition that's really 'best electronic music act'?

I swear if Booka Shade, Hybrid and DJ Shadow don't make that list but david Guetta does I will shoot myself on the nearest available dancefloor, free party, place that serves alcohol and/or drugs
All rounds shall be given a related title, for my own amusement. This round's groups were picked at random by Jen and LemonJam.
I'll add in all the suggestions so far too!
Rank them in order of preference from 1st to 8th, the top six will go through. You're voting based on the act as a whole, not just on the song, but you may wish to use these songs as a starting point if you're unfamiliar with some of the acts.

-files lawsuit for stealing my format and applying it to such shite-
half of these aren't even DJs :bored: Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Scott Mills are DJs. Basement Jaxx and the Chemical Brothers are musicians. I think a DJ is someone who doesn't make their own music, just remixes preexisting music.

They dabble in remixing. -shrug- It's hard to coin a term that encompasses all of them, but I think everyone gets what I'm meaning. Barely any of these acts would ever be considered for any other kind of competition, it's a different music scene altogether.

dance music? That's the only broad term I could use.

Yeah, though I think that'd be a bit misleading because then people would be expecting the various assortment of females that front dance acts, e.g. the girl from Cascada among others - this is more about the people who create the tracks/remix them.
'Electronic Acts' isin't too hard to fathom, surely?
I've never heard the likes of Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx mentioned as being DJ's.
Prob throw in a few votes later anyway although it's an odd mix of mostly disposable dance pop and some genuinly good ones.

Stu you just want Depeche in on the act :bored:
-begins randomly stanning OMD-
How dare you. I wouldn't insult the good name of Depeche Mode by including them in this glorified ukturtle mixtape of doom.
Okay maybe 'Electronic Act' is a bit too wide now that you've pointed that out. Electronic Dance Act seems more apt. I don't know. It's a damn sight better than 'DJ' *glares*.
Everything on that list is electronic dance of some sort.

I wanted stuff like Hybrid, Booka Shade, Infected Mushroom and such. I don't have much time for the likes of Cascada, David Guetta and Crookers.

Can I say how much I hate Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Backster (whatever her name is) for beating Victoria Beckham , Dane Bowers and Truesteppers to the chart in 2000. I am still bitter about it and refuse to listen to Sophie's music.
