The music universe is set to explode when MTV returns to Los Angeles, CA for the 2011 “MTV Video Music Awards.” The 28th Annual VMAs airs LIVE Sunday, August 28th from Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE at 9PM (ET/PT).

“We are proud to host the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, the creative capital of the world. And we look forward to showcasing our city’s exciting new downtown entertainment attractions,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

“We are thrilled to return to Los Angeles where the energy of the city will help power the creative spirit of the 28th annual VMAs,” said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV. “The city is the perfect backdrop for all the musical moments, mayhem and magic that make the VMA’s such a notorious celebration.”

Tony Bennett will lead a tribute remembering the late Amy Winehouse at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, it has been revealed.

It was first reported earlier this month that Winehouse would receive a posthumous memorial during the telecast, which will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 28.

Bennett will pay his respects to Winehouse by screening behind-the-scenes clips of the pair in the recording studio as they worked on their duet of 'Body and Soul'.

"It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse, and when you listen to the recording of 'Body and Soul', it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known," Bennett said in a statement.

Amy's father Mitch also expressed his gratitude for the segment, saying: "Our family is honoured that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute. We know that Amy's performance of 'Rehab' at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy's worldwide success."

Winehouse was found dead in her Camden, North London home last month at the age of 27. While no cause of death was initially found, toxicology reports revealed that she had no illegal drugs in her body at the time of her passing.

it's been confirmed Britney will be getting a tribute so they'll be showing her music videos and she's going to make an appearance. Also there are rumours that the current crop of popular artists will be performing some of her songs.

As for Gaga her performance has been much hyped with a variety of promos on MTV, there are billboards in NYC promoting Gaga's performance at the ceremony. Think she's performing a mash up of Government Hooker and Heavy Metal Lover.
