Eurovision is on tonight, 8.00PM on BBC1.
How do you rate Daz's Chance?.

Pipergun

Lots of the papers seem to be jumping on the bandwagon and saying we've got the best chance in a long while... maybe... but I still think the Eurovision votes are cast too politically for us to come anywhere near to winning!:laugh:

I'm still watching it though - for the sheer hilarity!

After watching his documentary on BBC3, Ive come to the conclusion that Daz Sampson is a living legend. We should cherish this man as the future of British Mc-ing. Move over Dizee Rascal.

Other European countries will never vote for the UK in large numbers, so we could enter with Oasis and we still wouldnt win.

Lets face it, we are the second most hated country in the world after the Iraq war.

Yes i guess that is true CC.

Daz is a legened i watched the documentry 2 and thought it was brilliant!

Pipergun
20-05-2006, 01:58 PM
We'll have to make deals: Ireland gives us 12 points, and we'll give Ireland 12 points, then we're both off the mark! Hehe! :joker:

... And then I go on and say political voting is wrong..... :blush2:

Thats true. I think he won £85,000 after betting that he would be chosen to represent the UK in March.

Yep - mad! I think that was on the outcome of the UK Finals though, so it's slightly more believable than Eurovision itself!

Not always the case. I remember the year Geminin got 'nil points'.. the UK gave Ireland 12 points that year and everyone was expecting us to give them something, at least. But ye got nothing.

I think because our entry is from Belfast that the UK points for Ireland will be high tonight as Northern Irish votes are counted for the UK.

Lance
20-05-2006, 10:27 PM
Yay, we came 10th! I must say, Brian did a good job on the song tonight. I was very surprised.

Thanks to you UK people who gave us 8 or 10 votes (can't remember which!)

We qualify for the final automatically now next year. Whoppeeee!

Boo for political voting though. We gave our 12 to Lithuania. Mind you, it was probably because the country is flooded with them now.:bored:

BB-Rocks

Ireland done great

I dont get this semi final stuff

Can you explain it to me:conf:

Lance
20-05-2006, 10:46 PM
Basically, because there are so many countries that want to enter it would be impossible to have them all in one night.

So two years ago they started a semi-final where countries except a select few (including the UK, France, Spain, Germany etc) and the top 10 from the previous year would have to get through first to get into the final.

BB-Rocks
20-05-2006, 10:47 PM
Ohright

Will we get to see it?

Dont think ive ever seen it

Lance
20-05-2006, 10:47 PM
Oh, I forgot to mention that the Eurovision was AMAZING!

LOL, anyone who didn't watch probably won't get that...

Pipergun

We gave our 12 to Lithuania. Mind you, it was probably because the country is flooded with them now.:bored: [/quote]

LOL, Lance!

And the show sure was AMAZING!

Plus, what was with the weird bird people, and the girl stuck in the piano!?

I had the lyric function on (red button) and the Croatian entry was called "My High Heel", and the lyrics included "Before the grass has sprouted, where I have trodden with my high heel..."

"You nibble me but nobody sees..."

Lance
20-05-2006, 11:06 PM
It was amazing. Truly amazing.:spin2:

Fearne actually said aswell. Cheeky lil' devil she is!

Woah, at those lyrics, how strange. Mind you, with them Norwegians winning, nothing seems strange anymore.

I guess we can't complain really. The UK and Ireland always give each other high points.

And it seems to be becoming more and more of an excuse every year for countries who do poorly.

cc100
21-05-2006, 07:43 PM
Its all politics. We would lose with Paul McCartney performing, all because of Blair.

Lauren

All the Baltic countries vote for each other. And the Balkams (Or however it's spelt). All that poor Ireland and UK have is each other . But thats all good, I'm 1/4 Irish and 3/4 English so

And I'm quite glad Finland won. It shows a drastic change from all the cheesy pop ballads. :spin2:

Lance
22-05-2006, 09:14 AM
Sorry to generalise here, but all these "less well off" countries seem to be the ones doing well of late.

Ukraine, Greece, Lithuania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Latvia, Estonia, Israel.. I think they all control this show now.

James
22-05-2006, 11:31 AM
I think the voting is as much to do with culture as politics. People vote for the country that is culturally close to their own.

Terry Wogan's commentary is so mocking these days... that's stopped us ever taking this contest seriously.

cc100
22-05-2006, 01:05 PM
Its impossible to imagine the UK ever winning again. How long will the UK continue to pump money into it? And how long will the UK audience continue to watch it, when we keep getting trounced?

Lance
22-05-2006, 08:31 PM
Terry is hilarious, James. I always watch BBC rather than RTE (Irish channel) because it's much more entertaining.

I don't know, Chris. It all seems a bit ridiculous to be pumping money into it and getting nothing out. That money could be used more effectively.

Kaz
22-05-2006, 08:35 PM
I only watch the Eurovision Song Contest every year to hear Terry Wogan's commentary ......... pure class!
