View Full Version : Person Of Interest Season 5

John Reese (Jim Caviezel), a former Green Beret and CIA field officer, is living as a derelict in New York City after an unspecified incident, and is presumed dead. He is approached by Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), a reclusive billionaire computer genius who is living under an assumed identity. Finch explains that after 9/11, he built a computer system for the government which uses information gleaned from omnipresent surveillance to predict future terrorist attacks. However, Finch discovered that the computer was predicting ordinary crimes as well. While the government was not interested in these results, Finch is determined to find a way to stop the predicted crimes. He hires Reese to conduct surveillance and intervene as needed, using his repertoire of skills gained in the military and CIA. Through a back door built into the system, Finch receives a Social Security number for someone who will be involved in an imminent crime, at which point he contacts Reese. Without knowing what the crime will be, when it will occur, or even if the person they were alerted to is a victim or perpetrator, Reese and Finch must try to stop the crime from occurring.

They are helped by NYPD Detectives Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman), a corrupt cop whom Reese coerces into helping them, and Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) who had originally been investigating Reese for his vigilante activities. Although Reese arranged for Carter and Fusco to be partners in the NYPD early in the series, for the entirety of the show's first season, neither was aware that the other was also working with Finch and Reese. Periodically, the team enlists the aid of Zoe Morgan (Paige Turco), a professional "fixer" who applies her skills to particularly difficult tasks. A major subplot concerns "HR", an organization of corrupt NYPD officers in league with budding mob boss Carl Elias (Enrico Colantoni). Led by several high-ranking officers, the members of HR work with Elias in an attempt to return New York to the old order, when the mob and police worked together. Elias, on the other hand, is merely using HR as a means to regain complete control of New York's organized crime. Despite his desire to be seen as a good cop, Reese forces Fusco to appear to be in league with HR, which allows him to keep tabs on the activities of both HR and Elias. A second major subplot is that of Root, a murderous female hacker who is determined to gain access to the Machine. Finch and Reese know little about Root and her objectives, but have begun to gather background information about her in an effort to stay a step ahead of her.

But if the show's a success then Michael Emerson can't do the other show with Terry O'Quinn which has been pushed back to 2012/2013, right?

Locke.

Terry O'Quinn has a show coming out aswell.. doesn't look good for the other show :(

According to CBS, Person of Interest received the highest test ratings of any drama pilot in 15 years, what one CBS executive called "crazy broad appeal you don’t usually see." The ratings prompted CBS to move CSI, which had occupied that slot for over 10 years, to Wednesday 10/9c to make room for Person of Interest.[3]

Think I'll stick with Fringe at the mo and then give Alcatraz a go in January. Don't like having more than one or two regular shows to watch makes me feel stressed lol. Might watch this show after the first season ends.

Joelle.
29-09-2011, 06:08 PM
Looks promising but with such high test ratings I bet they were expecting more than 13.33 million, CSI doesn't get much less than that these days and that will probably be cancelled in the next couple of years considering it got up to 30 million back in the day. Loads of shows have had promising test ratings in the past and ended up being cancelled after one season. The Event had just about halved its original audience by the season finale. Hope that isn't the case here as it looks very good.

I watched the first 15 minutes a while ago and it looks really promising, however I'm waiting to get the full season before I start to watch it. I like to watch my show back to back where I can.

I really can't be doing with all the breaks the US have during their shows.

Best show on TV at the mo, along with Homeland. Definitely rivals 24 as one of the best crime/thriller shows ever on American telly. Long may Reese and Finch grace our screens :worship:

Locke.

Yeah it is boss. Was thinking during the first 5 or 6 episodes that there was something missing, but as soon as they introduced the Elias character and started getting some continuity, it picked up a lot. There hasn't been one weak episode yet. Getting around the 15 million mark in ratings aswell, close to overtaking Grey's Anatony and winning its slot in the 18-49 bracket

On Tonight: Episode 7 - Witness.

Reese must protect Charlie Burton (Enrico Colantoni), a school teacher who witnessed a Russian mobster shooting an Italian-American mob lieutenant in a Brighton Beach bodega. As Reese and Burton flee the Russians and the Five Families, they stumble into territory controlled by Bulgarian mobsters. Meanwhile, Carter searches for Burton to place him in protective police custody, and in doing so, draws closer to finding "Elias M." – believed to be the illegitimate son of an aging mobster with a plan to unite the Five Families and reclaim the New York underworld from the Russians. Cut off from Finch as he tries to evade the Russians and the Bulgarians, Reese comes to realize that Charlie is Elias. Elias warns Reese to stay away or face unpleasant consequences, leaving Reese feeling guilty that other people will suffer because he saved Elias' life.

From Digital Spy:

I received a lovely e-mail from Jeff Ford [controller, Ch5] today. He explained that the decision to pull it from its Tuesday night slot was made because it appeals to 16-34 year old men and the slot it was in better suited female demographics. He stressed that they "love the show" and "want to look after it" and said that it will return "very soon" in a more suitable slot, with another "big on air push."

Can't believe they showed season 1 about a year after the US, and then have a break in the middle of the season :joker: It's ratings have been pretty good aswell, always over a million

PERSON OF INTEREST" IS THE FASTEST-GROWING SHOW ON NETWORK TELEVISION

"Person of Interest" Is Also Fastest-Growing Drama in Adults 18-49

The second-year drama has added +3.63 million viewers (17.26m from 13.63m), a +27% increase from last season. Among adults 18-49, PERSON OF INTEREST is up +0.5 (3.8 from 3.5), making it the fastest-growing drama on network television.

PERSON OF INTEREST, which stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman, currently ranks as television's #5 series overall and third-highest-rated drama (behind only CBS's NCIS and NCIS: LOS ANGELES), outdelivering every scripted program on every other network.

Debuted with 12.29 million viewers which is a little down on last year but still one of the third highest drama of the night after the two NCIS shows.

Episode 5 was one of the best episodes in the shows history.

Shaw finally coming good, Reese back in the thick of the action, Carter having her best scene in all 3 seasons, and the sub-plots all coming together.

Locke.
10-11-2013, 12:06 AM
This season is starting to get amazing, was a bit worried at first that it was going to go downhill but thankfully it hasn't. Have never really been that bothered about Carter but her storyline with HR is definitely the best thing at the minute.

Also

One of the main cast are getting killed off in the next 3 episodes. It won't be Shaw or Root as they wouldn't have bothered making them main cast members if they were killing them half way through the season, Finch is probably safe too as it wouldn't really work without him. You'd imagine Reese would be safe aswell but Jim Caviezel has still been making movies so might just want to concentrate on those, but I reckon it'll be Carter. Fusco would be too obvious and he is needed for the comic relief.

Does this TV show actually go 'somewhere'? I watched the first half of S1 and it just felt like a collection of random cases, got a bit repetative.

Yeah there are plenty of continuing storylines. There is a different POI case every week but they usually tie in to one of the main plots.

Last night was by far the best episode of the entire show, on par with anything HBO puts out. Big spoiler

They done such a good job keeping everyone guessing who was going to die, expected it to be Fusco all episode and then in the last few seconds thought it would be Reese, but Carter ended up being offed after finally taking down HR.

Carter had started to become a great character but Shaw is a lot better tbf.

Season 4 starts in a couple of weeks, third season started taking the show in a new direction and was by far the best season yet, so hopefully 4 lives up to it.

Yeah, I'm just glad they were able to give it a proper ending rather than ending on an unresolved note like so many shows do nowadays. Jonathan Nolan says they wrote it with the assumption that it would be the end so they apparently wrapped everything up.

Really enjoyed the second episode too. The glitching Machine identifying the team as threats because of the violent acts they've committed for various reasons in the past was really cool (and a nice excuse to show a montage of old scenes, I'm a fan of nostalgia in a show's final season, same goes for the montage of old faces of people who've been helped by the team shown near the end ).

Watching episode 3 of season 5 now. The modified opening sequence with Greer's voice-over added. :flutter:

Episode 4 airs tonight in the US but apparently it aired early in Canada last night (and was one of the show's best apparently!).

Lostie!
23-05-2016, 08:20 PM
Episodes 3 and 4 were more good episodes! Nice to have Stanton back in the flashbacks. As I said, I love when shows do callbacks to earlier seasons in their final runs and bring back old faces where possible.

Glad to see gloriously evil bastards Greer and Lambert back (I still can't look at Lambert without seeing Dr Cheriton from The Royal ). I already knew about the whole "It was all a simulation" thing because I'd read a review on the episode beforehand but it was still brilliant and a real gut-punch at the end to see she never actually got out.

Three episodes this week :flutter:

I mean part of me resents how CBS is burning through the final season but the other part of me is too excited over having 3 new episodes in one week to care right now.

Just watched episode 5. Elias being alive was a big shock, had no idea that was coming at all :o

I loved how the ShotSeeker plot tied back around to Samaritan (kind of like last season with the Nautilus game seeming like an independent storyline then Samaritan being revealed as the orchestrator).

Looks like Fusco's putting himself in Samaritan's sights by investigating all the missing persons reports, I think at this point he's in more danger being kept out of the loop so they'll need to bring him into the fold soon enough.

Bear is so cute.

As long as he and The Machine survive the final season, I'm good. :hee:

Those final moments of episode 6 :clap1:

Wasn't keen on the wedding subplot (I mean it was fine but total filler) but the segments with Shaw / Greer / Samaritan and Fusco were great. Fusco finding the bodies of all the missing people and Samaritan showing Shaw a simulation of World War 3 breaking out were chilling sequences.

I don't think Fusco is dead since I'm sure they'll have him finally find out about The Machine / Samaritan etc this season. And Bear better have bloody gotten out of those tunnels in time!!!

I've noticed that Greer refers to others as "my dear" a lot. Kind of makes him even more sinister.

Double bill tonight :flutter:

Watching episode 7 now.

Reese: The only way to keep Lionel safe is to keep him in the dark.

Well clearly not since him being out of the loop has resulted in him doing his own investigations into all the weird stuff happening and now Samaritan's actively trying to kill him. Tell him everything (you know, that a dictatorial artificial super-intelligence that sees your every move is behind everything) and he might stop doing things to provoke it. :idc:

I get the sentiment that knowing about Samaritan automatically puts you in more danger from it but that only stands if you don't know anything's happening and so don't go trying to investigate. He's past that point now.

Brilliant episode, one of my favourites actually :clap1:

Samaritan just gets creepier and creepier, sending hidden codes over radio transmissions and perfectly cloning voices to fake suicide messages now. :worry:

I loved that they gave the story a bleak ending with Max being killed rather than a tacked on hopeful resolution, it really drives home how dangerous the the threat of Samaritan is. And the twist with the assistant being a Samaritan operative all along was brilliant (and terrifying since it hammers home that they could be hiding anywhere in plain sight). :clap2: I also love any time they bring up the moral dilemmas regarding The Machine.

The Shaw scenes were great too, her shooting the doctor thinking it was another simulation then finding out it was real D:.

Just watched the latest episode, another good one!

Samaritan having everyone's DNA info stored and planning a "filter" doesn't sound good. I assume the filter is similar to The Correction from last season with Samaritan having certain sections of the population killed for whatever reasons.

Episode 9 :clap1:

I've been looking forward to this one since I knew it was the return of The Voice. Glad his identity was revealed before the show ended, Easton being The Voice all along was a brilliant twist that I didn't see coming at all. Elias killing him via car bomb was a cool twist too and I like the idea of him accompanying Finch on a mission so he can do the morally questionable things that Finch won't.

That shootout in the precinct was epic :clap2:

Shaw finally reuniting with the team and Fusco finally learning about The Machine were great developments too, really loved that last shot of them standing looking at the New York skyline. Though I can't help but think some of them are gonna die in the process of taking down Samaritan.

Very excited for tonight's episode, the 100th! Really glad the show reached that milestone before ending. The title of the episode, "The Day The World Went Away" is really intriguing and I know it involves Finch's number coming up so I think it's gonna be another great one.

The 100th episode

I was expecting someone to die, but Elias and Root in one episode :o

That shot of the camera panning down to Root's body was chilling. :worry:

Having The Machine take on Root's voice is a really nice way to keep Amy Acker a part of the show until the end. Now I assume "Root"'s voiceover with the flashforward to the destroyed subway in the first episode was actually The Machine speaking all along.

Just watched last week's ready for tonight's penultimate episode.

Having The Machine communicate with Harold verbally regularly is so strange (but in a great way). I love how, since she's adopted Root's voice, she's also using her general way of speaking to Harold (like calling him Harry).

The Machine forming another team, made up of past characters, was a really nice touch too. You can really tell it's approaching the end with these callbacks to the past.

Can't believe there's only two episodes left ever

The penultimate episode :flutter:

I loved the sporadic "what if The Machine never existed?" scenarios spread throughout the episode, seems a suitable time to approach that question so close to the end (and as Harold is preparing to kill The Machine along with Samaritan).

Greer's death was a little anticlimactic if I'm honest (and he got to die on his own terms which takes away a little bit of the satisfaction, even though it was ultimately in vain). Still, him sacrificing his life for Samaritan was totally in-character and was a fitting end for him, I just kind of wish he went down a little less willingly , Brilliant villain though, one of my favourites on TV actually. His and Harold's scenes have been among the very high points of the show.

The trailer for the final episode looks brilliant. And from the interviews I've read with Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman, it looks like not everyone on the team is gonna make it out alive. As long as Bear lives (with someone left to take care of him of course!) :worry:

Can't believe it ends forever this week but I'm just so glad they were able to give it a real conclusion (and according to Jonathan Nolan, the conclusion they had in mind for years).

This ends for good tonight.

I'm gonna be a mess if Bear or The Machine die (yeah typical me, worrying about the non-human characters first).

I really hope to see Michael Emerson prominently again in something else soon. My favourite actor for sure, has been since his days on Lost.

Stunning finale :clap1:

All of the endings for the characters just felt right to me. The Machine living on after beating Samaritan, Reese dying to save Finch, Finch returning to Grace and a normal life finally. Where everyone ended up was just so perfectly fitting. And of course, Shaw taking Bear :flutter:

I do wish we got to see Carter one last time in the final episode in a flashback or something but I assume Taraji wasn't available so that would be unavoidable. Same with Control, I'd have liked to see her again during the final season and have her story tied up but, going off the way she was taken away at the end of Season 4, I think it's safe to assume she was killed.

I loved having The Machine physically appear as Root too so we got to see (and not just hear) Amy Acker in the final episode, it wouldn't have felt right not to.

I also loved all the emotion put into the finale, it was really beautiful and I'd be lying if I said my heartstrings hadn't been violently tugged by the end, most specifically with The Machine's philosophies about life and death and her final goodbye with Harold.

What an absolutely brilliant show. The evolution of Person of Interest has been one of my favourites of any show. It's definitely gonna be missed.
