Just a quick reminder that none of the above are tolerated on this forum. And you WILL be given infractions for constantly posting them.

Many members do not use MSN, so ending sentences with 'leona2' 'hee1' or whatever is very confusing for them. Along with the fact that it is plain annoying seeing the same users doing it time and time again. The odd one we can let slide, but when it turns out seemingly being in every other post, then theres a big problem.

Txt speech is also hard to understand. This has been a rule since the very beginning of this forum. A rule that people used to follow, and will start to again. And if they do not, then be expecting quite a few bans flying around. It is not hard to type out the proper English word rather than for example 'r u goin out 2nite' . And it makes it so much easier for everyone to understand what you are saying.

The swear filter is another rule that has constantly been ignored recently. As some of you know, infractions are being given for avoiding the filter. Whether you agree with the filter or not is irrelevant. It IS there, and it IS a rule. You cannot avoid the filter by accident, so you know at the time that you are breaking a rule. If you wish to continue breaking the filter, prepare for a ban, because people who do it over and over will be getting harsher infractions than the ones currently being given out, because clearly the current ones aren't working.

I am aware that I already made an announcement on this, but I want there still to be record when the announcement ends.

Also anyone who replies to this with any of the above, will receive an infraction from me :)

So in short we will not be given the due feedback on our rightful criticisms of dumb rules? We just have to accept them and that is that? How progressive. We already know the swear filter thing is dumb but this Leona stuff is just some silly fun that really doesn't get thrown about too much. We are all guilty of making in jokes.

I'll make sure and curse twice as much without breaking the filter. Because as long as I don't break it it doesn't ****ing matter right?

Just doing my bit to make the forum look more ****ing respectful.

Additional snowflakes etc.

Did you misread the last part as you cant comment on the rules by any chance?

What I meant was whoever tries to be funny, for example by replying to this with only 'leona2' or whatever...because it happens in every thread

Strangely, that seems pretty much accepted, so I think so. As long as most is censored

As Ive said for ages, personally I dont agree with the filter at all, what with it being a BB forum and swearing is on BB a lot...but yeah, it is in the rules :/

Did you misread the last part as you cant comment on the rules by any chance?
No, I didn't. You will notice of course that I didn't complain about that at all. Anywhere in my post.

What I was complaining about was the fact that our comments go completely unaddressed. The language of sentences like 'Whether you agree with the filter or not is irrelevant. It IS there, and it IS a rule.' make it very clear that it doesn't matter how ineffective, illogical and unsupported it is. It's there and we have to put up with it 'because it is there'.

It's just pissy, basterdized reasoning. I understand that you are just doing your job though and communicating what the administrative arm wants said. I think James is the only one that genuinly cares about the swear filter or sees it as integral in making the forum look respectable - even though I might be told it was a joint moderating decision.

Let's just say I disagree with him on his order of priorities on making the forum look respectable. Besides I have to maintain my pin up bad boy image.

Cool, thanks.

Technically it's only breaking the filter though if you use formatting to publish otherwise unpublishable words, right?

Because he infracted me like a week ago for putting ''oo' between the letters 'f' and the letters 'k'.

Which I think is completely absurd and which I honestly take as a petty act of personal annoyance with another member modding but hey, ~TiBB.

Shaun
16-05-2011, 08:20 PM
It's virtually impossible to moderate though - when words such as OMG and LOL are being added to the dictionary left right and centre.

And erm, call me subversive, but isn't chat and games supposed to be...chat and games? It's essentially being pedantic. Does anyone actually report the "leona2" posts, aside from our resident fan? Because if that's what it boils down to the emoticon is used to convey hurt or upset with a situation, not mock the...thing.

But we can swear so long as it's not filtered? I know bastard and twat aren't though know you could argue that they are in the English dictionary

I think moderate use is fine. Just don't aim it as an insult at anyone and I wouldn't see a problem

For instance "Some twat wasp stung me today" - fine

"I think *member* is a total twat" - not so fine

Its not the actual swearing, its the breaking of the filter. Putting one letter in a word in italics so it doesnt get...as stu so nicely put it earlier...snowflaked :p

I ushered in the Verdana revolution - always willing to be charitable with emerging filter break technologies. By simply formatting a letter of the swear in Verdana - the same font the forum uses - the word would appear perfect.

James envied my cunning and has now made this previously unenforcable rule a forum priority.

Cursing is okay though.

In the past when crafting episodes of my Mystical Realms stories, I will have characters swearing, so what I did is replace most of the middle letters of the word with asterisks leaving just the first one or two letters at the beginning and at the end, so the swear word was never used

e.g taking the non swear word of "adorable" it becomes "ad****le

I know on one other forum, if you replace the letters of a swear word with asterisks in that fashion they still count that as a violation, because you are trying to get around the swear filter in their view

Is this what is meant by "breaking the swear filter", and are you saying that is the rule here as well?

I'm just waiting for admin to confirm one way or the other.

At the moment, breaking the filter would be..for example, making one letter in a swear word italic so that the word still appears as normal.

I'm really not too sure what the stance is on censoring the majority of the word, dont think that should be a problem though, but worth checking :)

Its not the most strenuous of things to do and I do not understand why time and again they do not bother to add these simple things for us. Its so frustrating.

I wouldnt blame them if they didnt bother adding them at all with people having this kind of attitude about it :)

I wouldnt blame them if they didnt bother adding them at all with people having this kind of attitude about it :)

They havent said either way if they are even going to add them, and already they need to pull their finger out...

Tbh adding more smileys just to please a few people is very trivial compared to the amount of other things that need doing round here.

1) I only have this kind of attitude about it because I asked for this smiley - http://www.greendaycommunity.org/Forum/public/style_emoticons/Dark/hmph.png - to be added at the beginning of January. Yet here we are still using a link for it.

2) I could've sworn they said they'd add that^ smiley back in that thread or you'd ask about it in the towers.

3) Which brings me back to my point about giving mods the ability to add these things.

It makes sense really. :joker:

To be fair, from what I recall of my admin days, adding smileys is a time consuming pain in the arse :joker:

Not really, not when it is happening constantly.

If it was the odd time, then yeah, it would be ridiculous to complain about it, but when it appears to be on every other post, its damn annoying and half the forum doesnt even know what it means.

Mods have no input into the actual site features itself, only admin can alter stuff like graphics/smilies/swear filter.

And admin do have more pressing matters then adding a smiley I'm sure. Some new ones will be added, you just have to be patient. :)

That's cool.

Vicky, wee quickie: Are we okay to use things like 'fook' feck..... it's a politer version? It looks a wee bit better than ****** me. ???

I don't mean in every post, but when it's appropriate? It 'sounds' less impolite? Would rather check than make the mistake that it's okay and get hit with the old ban stick. My backs still healing from the welts !! lol

Haha its not. Might seem that way though because I'm more vocal on the main forum about stuff, others do more 'behind the scenes' so to speak ;)
