What do you do at the gym and for how long?

No gym, just a set of weights on the floor and a suburban sh*thole to jog around. This is a fairly recent development for me. I have time to do it now that it's summer. Getting back into the aul skateboarding as well. Good for the leg muscles.

Never really properly worked out but in the summer I'm going to start because I actually want to get fit and build my muscle.
I've made a daily routine:

Wake up at 8 am. Eat steak for breakfast.
3 mile cycle to the beach.
Jog along the beach until I feel like I'm going to be sick and die.
Rest.
Jog again.
3 mile cycle back to house.
Starting day: 3 x 30 sit ups. 3 x 10 push ups (increase rep size by one every day).
Weights work until i feel tired out.
Then shower and get ready for the day.

The thought of Stu on a Wii fit board at home just makes me giggle

I can see how having to stand straight on a platform would be a somewhat alien concept to you.

3 times a week at gym. Full body work out that starts with legs, then chest, back, shoulders and arms. Mix of machine and free. 1 warm up set and then 3 main increasing each one.

For example shoulders are seated dumbell presses. lateral raises front, side and bent over, machine over head raises.

I warm up with 5 mins on rower and finish with a 20 min cycle.

I also just started skipping (dont laugh it is a killer) and I cycle to and back to gym (5 miles each way) unless it is bad weather.

The buzz you get after going to the gym is terrific.

Treadmill mainly 45 minutes 4 times a week and sometimes the weight machines if I've got more time

Yeah most people don't realize that it can alleviate plenty of mental effects. It's the best thing for depression. All those endorphins. Wanking is good for that too. I'm amazed people still think food is just food, life is just life, and you cannot directly change how you feel save for some half arsed self help book.

45 mins on the bike
15 mins on the rower
20 mins on weights
20 mins on treadmill
20 mins on bike

Haven't been going much lately because I've spent all my money, but that's what I do when I go.

Yeah just the steak sounds gash too. You'd want a proper diet for that kind of routine. not just 'a steak'. I'm talking cans of tuna, fresh fruit, downing a pint of egg, Rocky style ****.

Sit ups only thicken the ab muscles, a muscle like any other. You would be a lot better lifting weights.

if you want to have ab muscles that are seen then you have to reduce your body fat. Anyone with a low enough body fat will have good abs.

Jog in the evenings, press-ups in the morning + evening.

Press ups are a great chest exercise. Problem is 90% of folks do not do them correctly and thus are of little use.

Lifting weights for my stomach?

Yes

1. Lifting weights is the best way to build muscle and reduce body fat.

2. Your abs are connected to chest, back and shoulder muscles and doing compound exercises are better than doing spot individual muscle groups.

oh, thanks for that, that's an interesting read. I might try some of the exercises they suggest instead of sit ups then as I don't have weights and I'm not joined a gym

just like a gym routine, one needs a new approach and a fresh outlook in order to keep the muscles guessing.

but how sweet of you to remember my old threads...
