From the quote from Gavin Henderson all that they mean is they will not be continuing any of the additions to the format (T.O.T, house next door, save and replace, weekly twists etcetera) of the latter years, think BB3 without the chickens and vegetable patch, just X drunk people living in a house for Y weeks, 1 voted out every Friday but with a few new tweaks to keep things interesting.

Anyway, Katy Smith and two others who've worked on the spin-offs are executive producing, Gavin Henderson is the new PEJ.

great news lets just hope with past experience in working for BB that they understand what went so wrong in later years.

Initial turns to experience for Big Brother team
19 May, 2011 | By Alex Farber
Initial is turning to the man responsible for the launch of Deal Or No Deal to help resurrect Big Brother on Channel 5 this summer.
The Endemol indie has hired Gavin Henderson as creative director of both the celebrity and regular runs, reporting to Nick Samwell-Smith.
The former head of programmes at Presentable will be joined by exec producers Katy Smith and Susy Price, with Iain Coyle heading up the show’s spin-off and digital programming.
All four have worked on previous series of the main show or its Little Brother and Big Mouth spin-offs.
Henderson, who spent eight years at Endemol West, where he oversaw the launch of Deal Or No Deal, said having an experienced production team running the “monster” series was vital to allow creative risks to be taken.
“If you don’t understand how to make it, then you have no chance to tweak things,” he said.
On C5, the show will go back to basics for its 12th series as a straightforward entertainment format, which Henderson said “allows us to try things without having to jump through hoops”.

Im pleased it going back to basics but i hope its not too boring!
I'd like to see a few twists otherwise it might get a bit dull! Hopefully there will be twists and mission. I'd love to see another series as good as bb5,6 and 7!!

BB1-3 were not boring and in my opinion they are the basics of BB without any interference ,they just let the housemates get on with it and let then have alcohol and say mostly what they wanted without editing too much.I nthe early years we had no idea who would win it was much more of a game show and the final was intense as well.

This, though BB1 mark 2 is not what is meant in the article by back to basics.
