The rivalry is worse than ever, why?
and do you understand the hatred?
Religion, sectarianism, bigotry and hooligans! :)
It's a joke, coming from a city where there is just one football team to support, I'll never be able to fully understand the intense hatred but it really is a crisis IMO. Some of my friends on my course don't speak to each other for days after an Old Firm game because of their support of one or the other team... It's pathetic.
The Old Firm Rivalry is the best thing about the SPL without it the SPL is a nothing league but playing each other 4 times a season ( + likely chance of meeting in a Domestic cup meetings ) doesn't help the whole league needs to be revamped and have the same system as the EPL

No, it's not. It's an embarrassment.

Without the Old Firm there might actually be an opportunity for other teams to become successful instead of living under this expectation of aiming for 3rd place at best; it's sad that teams no longer hope to win the league but rather finish 3rd. There's not much that can be done to revamp the league; there just aren't enough teams of a reasonable standard in Scotland to make it more competitive. I've lost interest in football since I moved away from Aberdeen; it's just really dull to me now.

I agree, the only time I ever take an interest in the SPL is when the Old Firm game is on, it's the one match I'll watch

The welsh league had a revamp last season and it's worked out well, 12 teams and the split is awful i have never been a fan of the format really it would probably mean Scotland having 3 divisions as opposed to 4 but that would probably be a good thing more teams in each division meaning more competition for promotion etc

Pack of spastics.
Rangers are a bit less spastic it is prudent to note

Yeah, I'll agree they're good games to watch but the bigotry behind the rivalry is disgusting. Alex Salmond referredto it as "Scotlands shame" recently, and I agree with him.
Football is a sport and any rivalry in sport shouldn't be based on religion. People are stabbed and die after old firm matches FFS! It's getting out of hand.

Yeah I suppose that's true, I dont really have a problem with politics in football like a lot of European clubs have, but not religous bigotry

This is now making me watch that Danny Dyer Real Football Factories thing lol The one in Glasgow
No, it's not. It's an embarrassment.
The Rivalry builds an atmosphere like nothing else around the world.. i can't help but love it it might not be glamorous but it creates headlines and also as for the football quality it puts the rest of the league to shame it's the only chance you can get to see some decent football.. rather then huff ball football from then likes of Hamilton and St Mirren

Its completely retarded
Actually that's a bit harsh their are some good footballing sides in the SPL, Dundee United/Hearts/Even Killie were playing good football early on in the season but the standard compared to the top 2 is so visible

Rangers and Celtic fans should take note of Queen recent visit to Ireland.
Stupid religious bickering is THE PAST.
Its time to move one.
The rivalry should be just football based and very fierce.
Leave the religious hatred out of it.

All good things when it comes to sport, but you failed to mention the sectarian chanting/singing, the actual hatred between supporters, the fighting, the, erm sending of letter bombs etc... It all needs to stop!

It happens all around the world in near enough every league but Scotland get targeted a lot more for it.. It's all over the top. take the Neil Lennon and Ally Mccoist incident for example, the headlines made it sound like they went 12 round with each other.. when in truth they exchanged words before and after the game and just pushed each other a few times. The Munich and Hillsborough chants in Liverpool and United games don't get commented on at all.
Wait until next season! ;)

The recent Bombs have been the work of perhaps 2 people. The guy who attacked lennon was one person (Hearts fan) so lets not get hysterical. The rivalry is no different than many, just a bit more intense and drink fueled.
oh and both clubs are sponsored by a lager company!

Both Celtic and Rangers are a disgrace to Scottish Football, they are both equally as bad as eachother... and Hearts are gradually working their way up the steps of being total and utter scum too.
How do the Old Firm expect to get their dream move to the EPL when their fans can't behave themselves? And Rangers all but ruined any chances when they decided to wreck Manchester at the UEFA Cup Final.
I thought the recent BBC documentary was utter dross and didn't go indepth at all, if you watched that as a viewer not already clued up on the sectarianism that goes on in Scotland, wouldn't have thought the situation is that bad watching the documentary, but really it's a huge problem. If they want proper video evidence of religious/sectarian singing from Celtic/Rangers fans then why the **** did they go to an u19s game? Go to a first-team OF derby where a much wider variety of vile songs are sung.
Also the bellend Hearts fan attacking Lennon didn't show all. One of my mates at the game was in the Hearts main stand in the section where there tends to be 'aggro' between the Hearts fans and opposition supporters. He got pelted in the head by a coin thrown from the Celtic end and had to go to First Aid and receive treatment, this lot are as bad as eachother and get what they deserve. But what about the innocent families who go to the game to actually watch the football? They shouldn't have to put up with all this sectarian bile that is chanted at the game, and how are younger supporters going to react to this? They'll eventually pick up on it and the situation will get even worse over the years.
As a Hibs fan myself, our support don't sing any sectarian songs, however being a ST holder in the singing section at Easter Road I hear basically every chant sung at the games. And our derby games against Hearts, there is a large amount of racist gestures made towards Hearts players, and also many objects are thrown every time they are near to corner flag. I despise Hearts and every little thing about them but there is a line that just shouldn't be crossed and sectarianism/religion/racism come under this, none of these things have a place in Football so serious action should be taken to stamp it out.
The longer all this is left the worse it's going to get... they need to take serious action like playing games at Parkhead and Ibrox behind closed doors, then I'd bet the fans sort themselves out. The amount of crap the Green Brigade Ultras display and chant at Parkhead is ridiculous.

They are a debt-ridden club ran by a mad owner paying ****e players ridiculous wages that they cannot afford. Trust me once Romanov has to step down as chairman due to old age, Hearts could well fall down the gutter.
And to add to that they are just generally scum!

Good post! The whole thing is just a disgrace..
If it wasn't for Rangers, Scotland would only have 1 champions league spot for the 2012/2013 champions league.. show some bloody respect to your champions

I'd prefer that. It means only one set of the OF supporters can embarrass Scotland to the rest of the world.

I'm not disputing Rangers/Celtic are good football teams.. I'm saying their fans and the hatred and open bigotry is a disgrace in this day and age
