Do you think it should be changed?

I think it should become more true to its name

2 groups of 8 teams who play each other home and away throughout the season. Then in May the winners of each group play the final.

1 team from each country - champions.

2-3 rounds of qualifiers to get to last 16 needed for the 2 groups.

An example would be

Group A
Barcelona
AC Milan
Lyon
Anderlecht
Porto
Fenerbahce
Celtic
Dinamo Zagreb

Group B
Manchester United
Bayern Munich
Ajax
Spartak Moscow
Panathinaikos
Red Star Belgrade
Dinamo Kiev
Rosenborg

Not really a fan of that idea, the groups would drag on and it would be to much like two domestic leagues rather then the usual champions league groups, the format at the minute is perfect, + it would be harder for smaller teams in europe having only the winners progress to the final.

Yeah that's a bit better, although what are Red Star Belgrade doing there? they won the champions league in the early 90's but haven't been in it for ages now :joker:

Schalke got to semi finals this year and were very poor team

If Man Utd beat Barcelona our victory will be slightly tarnished by having weak opposition in semis and glory and honour not as high as if we won a group of 8 excellent teams, showing consistency and brilliance

also think it through a little more

imagine how exciting it would be towards the end of the league system if 2, 3, 4 or more teams all have chance to top the group and each game is massive

they should just change the name back to european cup because its not for champions and its not a league, so its daft

Good point. If Utd win it shouldn't count.

how about this idea that expands on what i say

champions league is what i described

european cup based on current format of champions league - so basically renaming europa league with a better standard of teams
