Impressions so far - Tomb Raider looks incredible, Call of Duty looks the same as the last 4. I'm not a fan but I suppose that's not neccesarily a bad thing if you like the games.

Nah, games don't have to be announced at E3, Rockstar generally don't use E3 to announce/release trailers. It's likely that release for GTA Next will be at least a year after the first announcement though. Looking at around Q3/Q4 2012 I reckon.

Japanese sentence structure's quite bizarre, often when their films get dubbed the script has to be changed since the English translation is pretty much always too long or short. That's why dubs tend to be a bit awkward.

Contrarian would indicate going against the majority. I don't see forums exploding in rapturous joy over this or any real reliable cause for saying I'm going again a 'majority'.

Enjoy it all you want I'd just rather play the proper, core version of Call Of Duty 323141324 on my normal console rather than a cut down, graphically inferior, more uncomftorable to control version with less players with the upside being that I can ~put it on a smaller screen.

Pretty simple, really. It's just like the Wii. Casual games, the odd quirky gem, and core franchises. Just not what I'm into.

Give it a chance to breath, the Ps3 had nothing but ports and the like at first and very few true exclusives. Look at it now. We'll hear more about exclusives throughout the next year I'd expect.

OH! thinking about it that Tekken game they showed isn't Tekken 6 and I think if it was Tekken Tag Tournament 2 then they'd have explicitly said so. For now we can assume it's an exclusive new Tekken game. Not all gamers are that close minded though, nobody plays a Nintendo console and expects the same experience as a Ps3 or a 360 and that's the point. Nintendo consoles are something a bit different, if you wanted the same experience from every console then there'd be no point in trying to do anything new. The Wii U will have it's killer apps and that'll bring in the gamers.

As long as Nintendo manage to promote the hardcore games then the key developers will keep coming back to the Wii U. Judging from that presentation Nintendo have learned how important the core gamer base is as there was very little in the way of casual games. I've been saying it for months that Nintendo will carry on the 3DS lead and return to a core gamer focus and from what we gather from that they have.

These companies develop marketing strategies forged with past experiences, look at the original Xbox. it was meant to dominate the last generation but it didn't and that was due to a limited range of games due to the fact that a lot of eastern companies didn't want to produce anything on it and so instead it was flooded with stacks of western FPS's. Look at the 360, the first thing they did with it was to get worldwide support from developers and it's one of the big reasons why it's the leading console now. Whoever holds the developers will inevitably end up winning, If Nintendo can learn from their mistakes and become more accommodating to other developers then they were with the Wii then those developers will end up drawing gamers to the console with their games. There's every chance of Nintendo coming out on top in the end.

That's essentially what I've been saying, yeah. Of course they appeal to a different crowd.

The 360 isin't leading this generation, the Wii is. The Wii U will probably lead next generation too because the market for potential casual gamers is always going to be bigger than the market for core gamers based on sheer logic. You are incredibly optimistic about this supposed return to the hardcore focus. The conference was all lip service in my estimation.

The beds have been made. The core gamers will continue to buy Sony and Microsoft's technologically superior products because at the end of the day developers will want to push their biggest and best core franchises on the biggest and best hardware.

That's how I see it and I'd be delighted if Nintendo could prove me wrong but I do not see it happening. Just like with the Wii the core developers will jump off the bandwagon sooner or later. They gave Call Of Duty a run on the Wii and I could have pissed in a vial and sold more copies.

I dunno, most Nintendo consoles and peripherals will have already had the majority of their total sales by now and the Wii U will only harm future sales while new 360/Ps3 games will continue to dominate sales which leads to a constant stream of sales. The Wii only really has a few heavy hitting games a year in comparision.

They've got a few details about FFXIII-2. The Battle system's largely the same with a few tweaks it seems. I don't mind though as it was an excellent system, I just hope it isn't as linear.

Oops! A slightly shocking revelation came out of a recent Game Trailers interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime: the Wii U third-party game footage wasn't actually authentic. More to the point, the footage came from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games shown. For example - THQ's Darkstalkers 2 footage..

Fils-Aime said that, while the footage was from other versions of games, he is confident that the Wii U versions will look just as stunning. The Wii U will be capable of 1080p graphics according to an interview Fils-Aime gave after its E3 press conference on G4TV earlier today.

"There has been some fantastic content that has not come to our platform," said Fils-Aime. "Third party publishers have told us that the reason they couldn’t bring it to our platform was based on the horsepower of the machine. That excuse is gone. So now all of the best content can come to the machine."

Also looking at the specs the new system will have flash memory again. Still no built in hard drive. Add to that despite embracing HDMI and HD, they've stuck with " proprietary high-density optical discs", i.e no DVD or BluRay and therefore no movie playing. People generally want to have as few boxes under the telly as possible, and both Microsoft and Sony understand that so their kits act as DVD players/media centres and the like.
