Rent. My dad owns his though, or will in a year, bank owns part of it

Bank will probably own part again though in a few years. Hes paying his mortgage off early, so he can remortgage the house if my little brother goes to uni(which is looking likely). he doesnt want him to be left in loads of debt for trying to get an education and says he would rather pay outright for the course :)

When I get a house/flat I rather get a mortgage. Instead of just renting then that money is just burning away. Be nice to own a property!!

We own houses in england but over here you are not allowed to buy a house when living on a dependants/working pass. You have to be a permanent resident therefore we rent which is pretty much money down the drain.

In germany it is very common to rent - a German friend visited me and showed new development (via net) where he was going to buy. I think it is to do with culture - in UK people aspire to own.

I'm so happy the buggers who bought many houses are now in negative equity.
