Former Channel 5 adventure gameshow Fort Boyard is set to be revived as an ITV children’s show.
It is understood that the commercial broadcaster is close to finalising a deal with format owner Zodiak Media Group to secure the programme for kid’s channel CITV.
Zodiak stablemates Foundation TV and Adventure Line Productions, which created the show in 1990, will make the new version, with filming due to take place this summer at the fort in France that forms the set of its long-running international editions.
The fort is the backdrop for against-the-clock physical challenges and riddles, as contestants attempt to reach the Treasure Room.
The indies are currently hunting for UK contestants aged up to 18 years old to take part in the competition. Another call has gone out for American children of the same ages, suggesting a US broadcaster could also be involved in the deal.
ITV and Zodiak are still thrashing out the details of the series and refused to confirm the commission. It is not yet known how many episodes will be ordered or when it will air. The broadcaster has an established relationship with The Foundation, which produces children’s shows Skillicious and Tricky TV.
Broadcast understands it will be the first time Fort Boyard has been reversioned for a young audience. The show has been made by Adventure Line Productions in 30 countries, including Russia, Canada and its native France, where it still airs.
The C5 version ran for three years from 1998 and was presented by Melinda Messenger and Leslie Grantham. BSkyB-owned Challenge briefly revived the show in 2003 with hosts Jodie Penfold and Christopher Ellison.
The Show begins filming on July 9th until July 15th :D!
Its good news that its on a ITV Channel as i can get it on Free-view! :P
