A close friend of the Prime Minister has been found dead in mysterious circumstances at Glastonbury Festival.
Senior Tory Christopher Shale, 56, was discovered slumped in a portable toilet in a backstage VIP area.
David Cameron said he was "devastated" as he described his constituency chairman as a valued friend and a "big rock" in his life.
Initial suggestions from Michael Eavis that the wealthy businessman's death could be a "suicide situation" were dismissed by police, who added that a post-mortem examination is due to take place. Sources said it was believed he suffered a heart attack, although police have described the death as "unexplained".
Festival founder Eavis later expressed his "deepest sympathy" as a police probe was launched on 900-acre Worthy Farm.
Mr Shale, a father in his 50s, was staying with his family in a Winnebago surrounded by a host of celebrities and performers. The death came just hours after he was quoted in the Mail on Sunday bemoaning difficulties his party faces in recruiting new members.
Mr Cameron, the MP for Witney, said he and wife Samantha were great friends of Mr Shale's. "Sam and I were devastated to hear the news about Christopher," the Prime Minister said.
The West Oxfordshire Conservative Association chairman was "a great friend and has been a huge support over the last decade" in the constituency, Mr Cameron added. He said: "A big rock in my life has suddenly been rolled away."
A distraught woman, staying in the backstage area between the Pyramid and other stages, was seen being comforted by officers on Sunday morning. Police confirmed several relatives were present at the site.
Mr Shale was quoted in a Conservative strategy document leaked to the Sunday tabloid. Referring to Tory party membership, he was reported to have written: "No reason to join. Lots of reasons not

I would like to point out that I was not there, I know nothing about it.
Seriously though.... 56 year old business man dies, possibly of a heart attack. Is that really news - given that the vast majority on tibbs won't even have a clue who he was (if they are honest!)

Droll, the pair of you, very droll.
You do realise that if it wasn't for people like him, and his age group - they tend to help finance, back and organise and host such big events - there would BE no Glastonbury. :p
here's a bit of knowledge for you both: you might want to wipe the grins off your faces !!
Athelstan Joseph Michael Eavis, CBE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_British_Empire) (born 17 October 1935), is an English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England) dairy farmer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmer) and the founder of the Glastonbury Festival (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Festival), which takes place on his farm.
Festival
Divorcing from his first wife Ruth in 1964 with whom he had three children, in 1969 Eavis and his second wife Jean Hayball visited the Bath Festival of Blues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_Festival_of_Blues_1969). Inspired by seeing the performance of Led Zeppelin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin), they hosted a free festival the following year. This developed into the Glastonbury Festival as it is known today. Jean died in 1999, since then their daughter Emily (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Eavis) has taken a more active role in running the event. In common with his mother and his second wife, Eavis remains a regular Methodist chapel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapel)-goer. Eavis has since remarried his third wife, Liz.
In 2010, the festival's 40th year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Festival_2010), he appeared on the main stage at the Festival, with headline artist Stevie Wonder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Wonder), to sing the chorus of the latter's "Happy Birthday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Birthday_(Stevie_Wonder_song))".

I have been to one Eoin, It was sh*te like but still.
I just consider 60 Old - and 56 is pretty close to 60, If he did die of a heart attack - then it's kind of obvious that your heart would give out if you're away at a festival.

30 isn't that old, I know 40 Year olds who are up for a laugh - one of them wanted to take me down to Oxegen this year, but It would of been sh*t poorly because they're older.
But 30 and 40 Year olds are usually good craic, It's 50 when it's maybe time to call it a day and not go to a raving festival.
One of those ones in the Summer where hippies are lieing on the ground smoking pot and chilling, yes - not jumping around like a teenager with a glow stick or something - which is probably why the fella died of a heart attack.
