Normally if it was still on C4 we'd get teasers/eye flashes within about 2 weeks from now!

Although C5 are leaving everything last minute this year so no idea.

yeah i always thought they left it till round about now, you proved me right, but dont you think channel 5 should perhaps start like right now since lots of fans still thinks its completely dead and buried?

If we're making predictions, I say the day before launch.

I think they will have to advertise on other channels/lots of billboards and places that will be viewed by people who dont already watch 5 on a regular basis.

As in eye flashes wouldn't work as not many people regularly tune in to channel 5 who don't already know about BB coming back.

As of date we will just have to wait.

We need more than just eye flashes this year, no one watches Channel 5 so no one will see them. :p

The thing that really confuses me...

It costs nothing to advertise their own shows on their own channel. All it would take is someone at C5 to make a little teaser, dosen't even have to contain the eye!

Has anyone seen the Glee break bumpers on Sky 1? Bare in mind, Glee wont be airing until the end of the year, yet Sky 1 have been broadcasting those bumpers for the past month! Since they bought the rights to it! It's called getting the word out!

Channel 5 should have done the same. Not just sit back and hope people realize it's back through a sh*tty golden ticket promo that failed balls!

Really don't think they know what their doing atall...

It may not cost to advertise on their own channel but it loses money and wastes crucial money making advertising time.

Not really, it'd be pretty stupid to start showing eye flashes and getting people interested 2 months before the show starts, it should just be done a week or 2 weeks before the launch

That would be amazing. A quick 5 second ad before every video with an eye flash and a voice saying, "Big Brother's back! 18th August, Channel 5" (or whatever the date will be). Maybe on the launch night they can have the banner on the homepage as well. Even better if they can do those two and also have billboards up across the country. They probably won't do all that though. :bawling:

Whatever kind of advertising they do, whether it be eye flashes, proper ads, etc. they can't just advertise on Channel 5. They have to advertise on other channels too, such as ITV and Channel 4 and some digital channels.

Advertising only on Channel 5 and in the Star won't cut it.

I like the idea about YouTube advertising. Have an advert for it beside shows fitting the viewer demographic or on clips from reality shows.

Channel adverts don't usually affect commercial adverts. I was watching Channel 5 a few weeks ago and there was a period of around an hour in the evening where they didn't air one commercial advert

Not really, it'd be pretty stupid to start showing eye flashes and getting people interested 2 months before the show starts, it should just be done a week or 2 weeks before the launch

Why? A large amount of people don't know that Big Brother has moved to another channel. They need to start getting the word out.

As has been said, Sky have the right idea with Glee. FOX is another example - they've been promoting X Factor USA since last September, a whole year in advance!

They need to advertise the show is actually coming back as its getting closer and closer

Yeah, people knowing too early can't be a bad thing.

For example Sky1 are telling people that Glee will be on Sky1 this year, not Glee. The longer you advertise it, the more people will know about it.

There has to be thousands of people that watched BB on Channel 4 and don't know it's on Channel 5 this year, and even if it is advertised on C5, it's still possible these people won't know as they may not watch C4.

A few 3 second eye flashes on several channels wouldn't hurt.

Because it can be counter-productive to advertise too early, or if not it can be just a bit pointless and a waste of money. I'm not saying there should be no advertising but it has to be timed well, it should start 2 weeks before the start so that interest can gradually build up more and more up to the launch show, you do it 2 months before and it all drags on too long and there's a risk of people losing interest

But they should be building up the advertising now dont you agree?

I know on Channel 4 it was acceptable to do a 2 week build as everyone knew it was a regular thing. But noone knows its coming back on Channel 5, people still think BB ended last year and they need to start advertising NOW to get peoples attetnion and clarify that bb is going to be back next month.

They really do. I saw someone on twitter say, "Big Brother's coming back?! when?" in reply to Marcus Bentley just last week. Even some Big Brother fans don't know it's returning. Really, unless you visit fansites or read the Daily Star, you're not gonna know it's on this summer.

I don't really think that's true, it was a fairly big story when Desmond did buy BB, all the major national news outlets carried the story and the Star's had front page BB news quite often recently, most people who actually care will know already.

Maybe 3 weeks before start with some eye flashes and then 2 weeks before have a big advertising drive and that should be enough to get the attention of anyone likely to watch.

Two weeks beforehand might be fine under normal circumstances, but this is Channel 5's first series. As it has been pointed out, a lot of Big Brother fans don't necessarily know it's back this summer - which you might expect with Channel 4 doing all they could to promote its death last year - so C5 really need to start getting the word out, the sooner the better. They should have ran adverts for the auditions last month.

But its a fact that i have talked to BB fans who did not know it is coming back.

They are ony advertising in their little media bubble which consists of OKTV the daily star....

They need to advertise to a wider range and NOW.

Like i said it was fine to do the odd eyeflash 3 weeks before like on Channel 4 but its Channel 5's first series and most of the people in the country have NO IDEA bb is coming back.

Where is the evidence for this though, I really don't think that any Big Brother fan could have missed the news of it's return unless they were basically living under a rock. If you had any remote interest in Big Brother you would have seen the story in the papers, on the telly, on the internet etc.

2 or 3 weeks is plenty to start building awareness and attracting interest, it'd be pointless and wasteful to drag this out over the period of 2 months with little eye flashes or whatever

Where else do you suggest they advertise? They can only work within their means and it's an unfortunate fact that Channel 5 do not have a large platform to promote the show

They don't want other papers getting the" Exclusive" news IMO. In the past, C4 was open to all the Media, but now it seems everything is being held back for Desmond's big exclusive.

If C5 really want it to be successful they need to go, as said, beyond their media "bubble". They could easily advertise on channels such as ITV1 and even advertise on music channels since those will come under the general target market for Big Brother. They need to really go beyond that too and have billboards across London and possibly even all over the UK. They could team up with a popular UK brand (Cadbury's, ok may be a bit too ambitious but they could go for something a bit more low key, Lucozade?) and create something that will be an interactive element between the public and the show itself. The internet will be the easiest of places to advertise too, all they need is to make a few small flashes and get them up on a lot of website and even look at advertising on websites such as YouTube which will hold a substantial amount of possible viewers.

Advertising is key. Many people are unaware of Big Brother returning; some still believe that it is firmly axed for good. C5 need to start advertising around 3-4 weeks before the show but not simply advertise within their media bubble, but actually put their money where their mouths are and make sure that everyone in the UK knows that Big Brother is back.

Otherwise, with little or no advertising; what was the point in signing a £200 million contract?

Jordan.

I know loads who watched the show in recent years and had no idea it was coming back until I mentioned it. Then even people who do know its coming back on channel 5 have no idea when its on. Anyone outside of a TV forum or don't read the Daily Star are clueless.

C5 have made a wrong move by not promoting it a couple months before it started, it'd have been a great way to get the message out, fair enough if it was C4 when everyone knows it comes back every summer but when its moving to a smaller channel and people aren't really aware theres nothing wrong with over promoting it slightly. There should be adverts, billboards, internet ads all by now.

Endemol obviously, they always have done.

Channel 5 are just broadcasting it - but they have a say on what is broadcasted so if they don't want Eye Flashes popping up on every Ad break then we won't get them.

Eye Flashes would be pointless anyway as would countdowns, considering no one ever watches CH5.

I want them though, just for us to see - maybe have them on YouTube like everytime you visit YouTube the Countdowns or Eye Flashes play automatically, they do that with movie trailers sometimes.

They would never ever ever in a million years be on BBC1.

I don't think any channel has ever broadcasted an advert on the BBC Channels.

ITV Maybe, but it would cost them alot as they tend to just promote their own shows too.

If they're really dedicated they could go for ITV but they would have to fork out so much which would cut into the show's initial budget which would mean Tasks and Twists wouldn't be as big.

Music Chanenls; CH4 advertised on about 6 Music Channels in 2010 for CBB7 and BB11 but that's because Channel 4 actually owned those channels.

It'll cost Channel 5 alot either way, I just hope they pick the right route to advertise and if they do, do billboards it needs to be like in more than one city - not just bloody London they seem to think the only people interested in Big Brother live in London.
