:bawling:
Saxon our Rotty. When he was a pup he got ran over and broke his leg and needed a metal leg inserting, hes now 9/10 and its come out of place being a big boy and he can no longer walk on it. Recently hes barely eaten nothing either and we cant afford to have it mended (about a grand because hed need a double 1 or something), so hes being put down tomorrow at 11. :(
Worst part is knowing youll never see him again. He was a guard dog around the back (although hed do sod all, was soft as ****); Im gonna miss him getting excited whenever somebody walked past :/

It's really hard putting your dog down. We had our black lab for 13yrs and he had really bad arthritis. The day we put him down was horrific.
I'm really sorry
Cherish the last few hours with him. You'll be glad you did

Jords.. I am so desperately sorry to read this. Nothing anyone can say will be of help or any real comfort to you - but please try to take some good from the fact that he did have years of kindness and love.
I don't know what else to say to you sweetheart. Sending massive hug and thoughts with you.
:hug:xxx
Would it help putting up a wee special thread for Saxon - you could put up any photos you have of him, with any little stories or memories when the pics were taken etc?

Ahh sorry to hear that jords. Losing a pet really is like losing a member of your family. I suppose though, you can take comfort in the fact that you are ending his suffering though....not that that will mean much to you at the minute

Jords.... I had a cat (surprise, surprise eh!) a few years ago: healthy little buggar - then she took ill, incredibly quickly - I mean within a month she'd gone from super healthy, active, fit to losing all her body fat - to the point she couldn't even stand. Watching her waste so quickly in front of my eyes, literally broke my heart - it was renal failure and nothing could be done. I literally was devasted. (and did the most stupid thing ever..... an 'amusing' story for another time). It truly was tough love and the kindest act ever to let her go.
Please take some comfort that you didn't have to go through 'that' side with Saxon - it is the most horribly upsetting experience. Wee Herbie is there - and needs all that same love and doggy friendship that you gave all those years ago to Saxon - as well as you having the fab memories he's pawprinted on you. And that.... no one can ever take away - he'll always be with you -and that's the best legacy he could have left you with.
hugs. xx
 Sorry to hear about this, I remember having to have my rabbit put down when I was young, was pretty horrible, but I doubt it's anything compared to a dog that's been around for so long, at least you know he isn't in pain anymore :)

:flowers:its the worst feeling ever! im so so sory to hear your sad news!:bawling: He knows that you love him and have been so caring throughout his life, you gave him a loving home and he knows that!
When my cat died 3 years ago i thought i would never get over it was had him 18 years and whatever anybody said i was adamant nothing would feel the same again, i no you wont think this now but it will get easier the first few weeks were hard.. very hard... and then a family friend said that her sister's cat had 2 kittens needing a new home, we weren't sure at first as it felt too soon really ( 2 months) we thought about it and someone very wise said " you gave Oliver a fab life for 18 years he was loved and cared for so much if you do the same for the kittens he would be happy knowing that they have such a loving home"! it made so much sense and HONESTY it really helped us move on and start with new little ones!
I am not saying replace one dog with another thats so not what i mean but after you have grieved think about it ( if you are able to ) a new one to care for?
Please dont think im being insensitive by saying "just get another one" im just saying how i coped with my grief.
Also i put a photo album together and look at it from time to time, we have a little tree in the garden too, we also talk about him regulary and have fond memories of him!
Thinking of you x x x x x x x x x

I wish!! It does look a lot like my little cat - but no, it's not her. Courtesy of webland I'm afraid!!.
Does melt your heart though eh!! It's the way it's little paws flop back into comatose mode again after it stretches and covers the eyes again, that tickles me pink !
I am dreading when Molly's time comes.Absolutely dreading it. I'm far too attached to her, it's pitiful really.
After Fluffy (mentioned earlier) - I swore that was it - it's just so painful, that sounds nuts, but it was. I said I wouldn't put myself through that again. (christ, the tears are rolling down my face here.... how pathetic.) :( :( :(
Anyhoooooo................6 months later .............. and along comes Molly. :)

Tough love, I couldnt say it in a better way. Im sorry to hear about your cat, we had a similar incident last year but our cat was 22/24 (cant remember exactly) years old! We were planning on putting her down soon as her health rapidly went down hill over the space of 2 months but we woke one morning to find she finally gave up herself and laid her bed, was really sad but she had 1 hell of a life bless her.
And agree Herbie's got laods of time in front of him for us to take care. Thanks for the lovely words Pyr does mean a lot, and I wrote that blog if you wanted to read: http://perceptivellama.blogspot.com/2011/07/rip-saxon-my-boy.html
Made me sob again :(

Lovely post thanks a lot, we will need a new dog out around the back but not yet, too soon. But I agree that its not 'replacing' :)
The tree idea you did sounds great, clearly was a well loved cat! My dad buried Sax in the back garden along with other past pets.
 xx
Thanks everybody else too!!
