I don't think 17 weeks is a long time, its only a few more than X Factor, also I think some people won't watch CBB and even if people miss a couple of weeks of BB, being on so long allows them to catch up.

For those who latch on to a housemate/s as their favourite/s,they will stick with it and vote week in and out for them.

Most of the people who will watch BB and follow it from Channel 4, will just connect more with it the longer it's on.
