I have some sort of Redirect virus on my Computer. When I google something and click the link I get redirected to stupid sites, its really annoying, anyone know the quickest way to get rid of it?

I have the same thing right now. Very annoying. I'll get redirected to some competition to win an iPOD or some made up search engine with a riddiculous name or something like that.

You basically have to keep doing scans and deletes with antivirus software until it buggers off. AdAware and AVG are the two best ones. I'd go with AVG.

Should I just reinstall my browser?

Oh right cheers, just done a quick google there and its happening quite a few people. if you stop the page from loading as soon as you click and then click refresh it doesnt redirect but the effort in that.

Try looking at the task manager and seeing what it is? Like if you cancel it there it usually stops and then you might be able to find the location of it

Check your connections settings.

I remember I had to do that and it had me viewing everything via a proxy...which is how it was redirecting all the time

I deleted all my recent downloads and cleared my history and that seems to have done the trick....

Try malwarebytes in safe mode its usually good at catching stuff like that.

That's you limited for some 'down below' options then!! LOL .
On topic: I'm having a stab in the dark here: if so many on here are getting this same 'redirect' virus kicking in - could it have come from something someone posted (that we've clicked?).

This will be a stupid question so apologies in advance for my ignorance: is there any form of virus shield that detects such things when links are included in posts ?? (sorry..this side of things I don't really know too much about).

No apparently its just one doing the rounds.... 1/3 of users affected are from the us though so I'd say it started there.

Thanks for the update Vicky - as Iceman says: it could be why it's hitting a lot on here!

funny enough: my system's been throwing scans right, left and centre to the point of distraction! Seems it might just have been doing a good job then!!
