I think you'd have to go to a specialised educational psychologist.

That's if you really want your IQ taken to a suitable degree of accuracy.

At some psychologist centre (I had it when I was 10 in England and another one this year but in Singapore), they make you play weird games and word association things. There will be somewhere to do it in your area It should be easy to find someone on the internet who does it I think.

Mine is probably about a million.

The scale doesn't even go up to that level (not necessarily)! :D

Here's an indication of what your IQ score actually means:

Over 140 - Genius or near genius

120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence

110 - 119 - Superior intelligence/High Average

90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence

80 - 89 - Dullness

70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency

Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

High IQ & Genius IQ

Genius IQ is generally considered to begin around 140 to 145, representing ~.25% of the population (1 in 400). Here's a rough guide:

115-124 - Above average (e.g., university students)
125-134 - Gifted (e.g., post-graduate students)
135-144 - Highly gifted (e.g., intellectuals)
145-154 - Genius (e.g., professors)
155-164 - Genius (e.g., Nobel Prize winners)
165-179 - High genius
180-200 - Highest genius
<200 - "Unmeasurable genius"

A few IQ tests will vary on what they consider to be "average"/"above average"/"genius", etc, but what I have provided is a rough guideline of what your scores mean.

NB: if you really want your IQ taken, go to a specialised psychologist. The fact that you attained, say, 130 on a test, is not to suggest that you're actually a genius; it simply means that online IQ tests don't mean half a ****, and the results likely to be ****ed up (not saying that anyone here is dumb :D ). Go to a specialised educational psychologist or something of that sort if you really want your IQ measured accurately. And that's if you're really bold, too.

Redway
28-07-2011, 09:50 PM
Of course, "high average" and "low average" can be marked at 100-110 or 90-100; this is entirely in accordance to the slight variations that people may make to possibly enhance the accuracy of IQ scores/tests. :)

2. 17 - (14 X 3) = 17 - 42 = - 25

3. 11 + (2 X 7) = 11 + 14 = 25

4. 100 - (11 x 8) X 4 = 100 - 88 = 12; 12 X 4 = 48

5. 27 X 3 - 6 = 54 - 6 = 75

Solve the following equations:

1. 4x - 7 = 27

Add seven to both sides, and 4x = 34.

Divide by four to get x on its own, and x = 8.5 (you can do this using an algorithm).
2. 3x - 27 = 45

Add 27 to both sides and 3x = 72.

Divide by 3 to get x on its own, and x = 24 (feel free to check this by multiplying 24 by 3 :) ). :)

On Q4, you'd do anything in the brackets first. So you'd have 100 - 88 X 4. Now, 88 X 4 = 352. 100 - 352 = 252. So, yes, you're right. Don't know why I've done that.

On Q5, 27 X 3 does indeed = 81. Now, you'd have 81 - 6, which is now a simple subtraction sum, and you'd get 75. You were right. You haven't gone wrong; it's me not thinking properly. :)

Well, it depends. In actual context, IQ tests don't tend to cover the pure subjects, e.g. Maths, but rather cover techniques, e.g. visualisation, memory, problem-solving, etc, so it's fair to say they only cover the more visual form of intelligence. But, on the other hand, schools have conducted standardised tests, which relatively have the same range (except they don't go beyond 140), in English, Mathematics and NVR (non-verbal reasoning) since 1985, so, if you're in your 30s and under, your school probably would have covered those tests, anyway, so I think it's safe to say that we now have sufficient enough evidence to say that the IQ of a person can be, more or less, measured to a basic degree of accuracy, at least. :)

It depends what type of IQ test you are referring to. You'll have to endeavor to be more specific. The questions you should expect to be on an 11+ would be on standardised, NFER nelson, tests. If you're referring to a general IQ test, you should expect to see such things as: shape, puzzles, memory, visualisation, etc. Going by what you said about the 11+ exams, eliminating the mathematics and English, yes, you should generally expect to see such things as you've listed on an IQ test.

I had mine done in school, I think i got 125....or maybe 126. Somewhere around there.

That's very high. 125 is the 95th percentile; 126 is the 96th percentile, i.e. you were in at least the top 5th percentile (approximately). That converts to a moderately high score.

Now, you can form the confidence band. Given the fact that you're within the 116 and 132 band (although this can vary from time to time, especially with results from different tests, altogether). To gain a confidence band of, say, 125, which you have provided, you'd subtract 7 and plus 4. We can be 90% certain that your score is between 118 and 129 (moderately high). With 126, we'd just plus one; we can be 90% certain that your true score is between 119 and 130 (moderately/extremely high, in reference to the latter region of the formed confidence band).

That's very good! :)

No, it does not take a hyphen. In addition you spelt 'vice' wrong, genius.

Excuse me. The older a compound is in use, the more chances to it being written in one word, and vice versa. The hyphenated version tends to be a mid-way stage.

There ought to be a comma after the word "addition". And, thanks for sharing that link, I suppose.

I'm not claiming to be a member of Mensa.

You are. And you wrongly hyphenated vice versa and spelt 'vice' as 'vise'. In addition to your plethoa of other abortive traits.

As a trivial little footnote your argument has been directly copy and pasted from the following link : http://www.whitesmoke.com/using-hyphens.

And the part you copy and pasted bore no contextual relation and does not support an argument supporting the use of a hyphen in 'vice versa'.

In fact it directly rallies against it given that the term appears - unhyphenated - in that bit of copied text.

What an outrageous statement. Not all people at MENSA believe that intelligence is the way to everything. Of course it isn't: there's far more to life than education and intelligence. Stop stereotyping people.

Thank you. :)

Oh, of course! I spelled the phrase incorrectly! Don't know why I did that. Thanks for spotting that for me. I'm sure I'm going to tell all my friends about the wonderful discovery I've made.

The Purpose of Mensa (quoted from their website):

'to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members'
'to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity'
'to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence'

I'm but that sounds like the complete opposite of TIBB and as if people applying need somewhere that stimulates them. Therefore why would you apply in the first place if you didn't agree with 'the purpose of Mensa'.

Yes, because what people need is to be constantly crammed with information without ever receiving a bloody break.

Members of MENSA do not come here for "stimulation purposes; they come here for relief. You cannot expect people to be exposed to a world that knows only mathematics, English and reasoning: surely, those people deserve some sort of break, don't they?

No, I mean that I had an IQ of 140 from some crap website, but MENSA did indeed accept me. I cannot recall the actual score, but I was in the 99th percentile rank, which would be between 133 and 138.

I'll spell words how I want, thank you. Whether or not it's worthy of a hyphen is entirely at my discretion. OK, maybe it doesn't comply with the correct grammatical rules of English, but have you ever considered whether I, personally, feel like putting a hyphen in?

Anyway, I thought you didn't like me. Why talk to me, then? Not having a go, but your views are confusing.
